I was on mids and could not post Birthday Greetings for one of my favorite people, Julia Child.
She would have been 100 years old on August 15th.
So lets make some boeuf bourguignon!
She single handedly improved the American Culinary experience and freed us from the tyrannical dull drudgery of American ‘food’ in the post war years .
Cheers, Julia! I offer a toast of a 2001 Ridge Monte Bello that I had been saving for just this day.

lets make an omelette!

She is your inspiration? You have been saving a specific bottle of wine just for her 100th birthday?
NoThreat2U wrote:
yes. she is an inspiration. my first memories of TV are her cooking. probably explains why i am such a food geek, doesn’t it?
i did. i forgot i had it in the cellar. it got buried in the far corner with a few others a few years ago and then ‘found’ two months ago. and yes. i saved that one
how geeky is that?
@ coldwarrior:
Not too geeky. Kinda cool in a way actually. Enjoy! I had a kickass glass of white last week. Forgot to ask what it was though. Just a tad tart but sweet at the same time.
just pulled the brisket off the smoker…18 hours…want some?
Or as I used to call it when I was a kid, “Beef Boogernog”
Wasn’t she in the OSS in WWII? Somehow imagine her stirring the pot with one hand and holding off Gestapo agents with one of these in the other.
coldwarrior wrote:
Nice…keep it warmed up and I’ll have some in few hours. It’s still breakfast time here and I just finished a bowl of McCann’s Irish Oatmeal.

@ coldwarrior:
Slept beside the smoker?? Such dedication! Got a good glass of white for me?
NoThreat2U wrote:

I just might take you up on that offer.

Yes. She was a file clerk. She didn’t learn to cook until after the war.
Think you know how to make scrambled eggs? You don’t. Don’t be embarrassed -- Julia also thought she did. The technique she learned is a revelation.
Smear the bottom and sides of a cold skillet with butter.
Dump in some beaten eggs. Turn on the heat.
Don’t touch till they start to set. Then just move around with a fork gently. Romove from heat jusst before they’re done like you like them. Residual cooking will take care of it. Add a bit of cold but to stop cooking.
Creamiest eggs ever.
nothreat is here. i am serving her brisket, home maid bread, and champagne.
happy b day julia!
oooo! what kind of bread?

That sounds wonderful. You know I am a bread person!
We are going to do gourmet burgers on the pit a bit later on (before the game). Having a pony corona with lime and salt right now!
Tell nt2u I said hi! Cool that she is close enough to pop over!

I won’t eat anything I can’t pronounce. I mean, what happens if I contract food poisoning, and go the ER, and they ask me, “well, what did you eat?” “Uh, beef burquagone? No wait, beef buggeredon? No, wait, beef aaaack!”

Well, some guys wearing Rockies uniforms are, anyway. Seems like most of the team is on the DL.
Mutant butterflies found near Fukushima plant
One legacy of the Fukushima nuclear disaster last year has already become apparent through a study of butterflies in Japan: Their rate of genetic mutations and deformities has increased with succeeding generations.
I seen one of them thar Mutant Butterflies
in my back yard last night yah know

Was in the middle of a reply to you asking if you are getting any rain and had a heck of a cell explode over us knocking out power for a few minutes. Major thunder and lightening and just a tiny bit of rain. Lol.

Well you know what they say… A hell of a lot of thunder and lightning and a little rain beats the hell out of a visit by Obama any day…

Some some reason I could not watch her show; but I did watch the Galloping Gourmet. He was always drinking the wine he was using to cook with. That always cracked me up.
BHO & his cadre really thought that they had an
issue on the Ryan plan for Medicare.
They’re losing the debate, a Rasmussen poll of likely
voters in Florida shows that 48% fear Obamacare , while
41 % fear Ryans Medicare plan.
Let’s vote!
@ RIX:
They apparently didn’t count on the ability of seniors to understand basic English.
According to Obama, not raising your taxes is a tax cut, but a $700 billion “reduction in payments to providers” isn’t a cut in Medicare.
No wonder so many of his inner circle have IRS problems…
best brisket ever
@ song_and_dance_man:
Who was the guy on PBS that always dipped his bread in his wine. I think he was Cajun?

I say that about every one hubby cooks too!

Wasn’t it Graham Kerr; the one I just mentioned?

Ah yes. I only watched him a couple times cause I don’t much care for Cajun food. Especially Okra. Oprah too.
@ lobo91:
I think that the Obama people are shocked that their
usual smears are not working.
Their Medicare cash grab now becomes known since they
misjudged the smear of Ryan, introducing Medicare into
the debate.
Really not possible to make Ryan look like Satan.
@ song_and_dance_man:
He was a hoot.
Oprah not so much.
lobo91 wrote:
Yep, just like if the GOP House says it’s going to lower the increase in spending for, let’s say medicaid next year, from a 5% increase to a 3 increase, to the libs that’s cutting it 2%, and they’ll claim the GOP wants to kill poor people. Morons.
@ RIX:
I don’t think even Ryan could save my back yard…
