Breaking: Rep Akins preparing to withdraw from Missouri Senate race; Update: Akins claims he’s staying in the race

The republican party in Missouri has been pressuring Rep. Todd Akins to withdraw after his really ignorant and offensive statement on rape. Reports are now circulating that Akins is bowing to pressure and planning to withdraw.

The GOP doesn’t want a repeat of the Sharon Angle fiasco where a lunatic helped by the Democrats won the nomination and lost in the general. If this report is true, good riddance to this low life scumbag.

Update: Todd Akin denies reports that he is preparing to withdraw from the Missouri Senate race.

Rep. Todd Akin (R) of Missouri apologized for his recent comments on rape but said he was staying in the race for US Senate, saying “I have not yet begun to fight.”

[....]

But Akin said he would not heed the call of several prominent Republicans to drop out of the race to replace Sen. Claire McCaskill, widely believed to be the most vulnerable Democratic Senate incumbent this year. The Real Clear Politics average of recent polls shows Akin with a 48 percent to 43 percent lead over Senator McCaskill.

“I don’t know that I’m the only person in public office who has suffered from foot in mouth disease here,” Akin said. “My belief is we’re going to take this thing forward and, by the grace of God, win this race.”

There goes Missouri and Harry Reid is smiling.

So instead, McCaskill will run unopposed (or they’ll throw someone in there to replace him at the last minute, just like Obama’s Senate election in 2004).

Hopefully this will also start to change the GOP process from letting demonrats decide who the GOP cuckoo bird or shitbird nominee is to be. Those days of that working out for the GOP elites is over

    @ lobo91:

They will probably get Sarah Steelman, who was backed by the Tea party as a replacement. This Akin clown is exactly who the Dems wanted and they help him win.

God, I hope the GOP makes the right decision this time….

Edit needed, Rodan. Akins’ unfortunate statements were made about rape, not rap.

It’s really, really hard to say anything ignorant and offensive about rap. ;>)

Akin Says He Has No Plans to Quit Missouri Senate Race

Rep. Todd Akin says he has no plans to withdraw as Missouri’s Republican candidate for Senate after drawing national criticism for his comments on rape and pregnancy.

Good for Todd Akin for putting the country and party first. We need that Senate seat. I do not think Todd Akin is a bad guy. He misspoke. But it could have cost him the race and distracted the country. I do not support caving in to Democrat and leftist hyperbole and attacks, but in this case it is wise to engage in some political Akido.

@ EBL: Now he is not withdrawing? Okay, good way to further stir this pot. Nevermind.

Todd Akin needs to be told the the RNC will not give him one dime and that they will support an independent 3rd party candidate. Therefore Akin will not only not be a Senator but will lose his congressional seat as well.

Should I stay or should I go now?

It isn’t easy being red. We start with what should be an easy electoral victory, and before you know it we are bleeding heavily from self-inflicted wounds. Let’s review two of today’s top news stories. First comes Congressman Todd Akin, whose epic blunder Paul wrote about earlier. Here’s the problem I have with Akin: it is not unusual for a candidate to use an infelicitous phrase in the course of making what is essentially a valid point. When that happens, we almost always defend the candidate. Here, however, Akin went on a rambling, offensive riff in support of a point that was wrong and stupid. Not to mention completely needless: every sentence uttered by a Republican candidate that does not include the words “unemployment,” “jobs” or “economy” is a waste of time, or worse. No one wants to hear a Senate candidate’s ruminations on biology–no one except the Democrats who supported Akin and helped him to get the GOP nomination because they saw him as a weak candidate.

That’s the world we live in; Republicans expect more from their elected representatives than Democrats do. But that’s not all. Republicans will win big in November if voters focus on the issues, pre-eminently the economy. The Democrats can’t defend their records in office, so their only hope is distraction. One would think that Republican candidates and office-holders would be smart enough not to make it easy for them.

“What I meant to say was, ‘I am a worthless, moronic sack of shit and an utterly irredeemable human being who needs to shut the fuck up and go away forever.’” – Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO)

Between John Roberts and Todd Akin, if this is the best the conservative movement can do to combat this pinko juggernaut we deserve the fate that will surely befall us.
