First!
hey ya’ll
any of yinz read the ulsterman report
if not you should, many times he has great stuff…
like the “suprise visit” to the White house press corp
SETUP!!
yeah like ya’ll are shocked by that
WHITE HOUSE INSIDER: Obama Preps Media For “Surprise” Press Conference
If you haven’t seen it yet, president staged a surprise visit to the WHpc today. WH handlers had made contact with at least three members of media beforehand. They wanted to ensure question on the Akin rape comments was asked. Prepared notes for response by president were rehearsed. The moment was to provide campaign with a “soundbite backdrop” to fire up the war on women tactic they believe provided a bump in the polls couple months back. This kind of thing isn’t new. Pretty common with administrations to have some media folks they can cherry pick during a p.c.
Obama was pushed out onto the stage with some crib notes and instructions to wait for the abortion question. The question came and the president read from his notes. If you find a video of it, you will notice him looking down at those notes. I had to laugh when Obama tries to manufacture outrage when he gets to that word. You can see the little rodent in his head spinning around the wheel telling him to “act outraged” but the guy just can’t pull it off anymore.
yup
watch the vid
he’s just reading his cribnotes
guess a teleprompter isn’t subtle enough.
@ Macker:
How many people got banned for that single word?
@ rain of lead:
That was a real boneheaded comment by Akin. Fortunately Claire McCaskill is so despised that even Macker could win a Senate Seat.

PPP finds Todd Akin still leads Claire McCaskill,(troll poll?) and that the numbers have not changed much since the controversy broke:
http://legalinsurrection.com/
Missouri voters strongly disagree with the comments Todd Akin made about abortion over the weekend, but it hasn’t moved the numbers a whole lot in the Senate race. Akin leads Claire McCaskill by a single point, 44-43. That’s basically identical to our last poll of the contest in late May, which found Akin ahead by a 45-44 spread.
uh, ok lets see a poll at the end of the week after the mfm has had a few days to flog it
@ rain of lead:
The GOP is eating it’s own instead of throwing it all back at the libs. One dumbass comment, and Akin is thrown under the bus. The world is run by C students.

His DC office has not been picking up the phone and it just goes to a message saying all the mailboxes are full. So then I tried calling his district offices. He’s got one in St. Louis, one in St. Charles, and each of those have quite a few numbers listed. I tried each number and the same thing happens, “This mailbox system is not accepting messages”. Looks like the whole Akin staff is in a bunker somewhere in crisis lockdown mode and they don’t even have the decency to listen to constituents who are enraged with him

His comments, as dopey as they were, have been misrepresented by both sides of the aisle, and Obama lied about it.

Adkins was supported by the Democrats to win the GOP nomination. The Dems threw 2 Million and encouraged Democrats to vote for him. His margin of win came from Democratic areas. Missouri has open primaries. The Dems wanted him as the GOP candidate because he’s a loon.

Kinda sorta true, but newspapers are failing, as are TV broadcast “opinionews” shows. There is hope and change -- Note how Soledad O’Brien is a laughingstock. There is power in the internest.
Stacy Mccain nails it
http://theothermccain.com/2012/08/20/objectively-todd-akin-is-doomed/
It was like the point man in the infantry patrol who hits the trip wire that detonates the mine in the enemy ambush. Suddenly the entire platoon finds itself pinned down under carefully aimed small-arms fire from camouflaed emplacements, while mortars and artillery come pouring in on pre-determined grid coordinates.
The Democrats and their media allies had all their arguments and talking points ready to roll, having rehearsed the whole drill five months ago during FlukeGate. Suddenly, everything Mitt Romney ever said about abortion and everything Paul Ryan ever said about abortion is legtimate, relevant and newsworthy.
Ouf of a clear blue fucking sky.
An unforced error by a candidate in a red state should have been an easy Senate pickup for the Republicans not only puts that pickup in jeopardy, but in fact forces the GOP to re-do all the work they’ve done for the past five months to try to focus the fall campaign squarely on the issues where they can and should clobber the Democrats. Spare me the complaints about the unfairness of it, and don’t try to play the True Conservative card on me.
This isn’t about ideology, it’s about basic political competence — or the lack thereof — and a candidate whose ambition led him into a high-stakes game that he clearly wasn’t prepared to play. Nobody put a gun to Todd Akin’s head and forced him to run for Senate, and surely all the uproar this past spring about an alleged Republican “War on Women” should have been ample warning to GOP candidates to be very careful around such issues.
@ Bunk X:
The one who should be watching his ass is mocking me thru another who I will mock.

Minn. Rep. Kerry Gauthier urged to step down amid sex scandal with teen; media silent
Minn. state Rep. Kerry Gauthier is being urged to end his re-election bid following a sex scandal involving a 17-year-old boy.
Police reports say that Gauthier, 56, had used Craigslist to arrange a meeting at a Duluth-area rest stop with the boy on July 22. The two reportedly engaged in oral sex behind a pavilion at the rest stop. The age of consent in Minnesota is 16, and no charges were filed in the incident. However, Democrat party leaders in the state, including House minority leader Paul Thissen and party chair Ken Martin, are urging Gauthier to end his re-election campaign

Netanyahu ‘determined to attack Iran’ before US elections, claims Israel’s Channel 10
TV reporter adds: ‘I doubt Obama could say anything that would convince PM to delay a possible attack’
October notsuprised
@ rain of lead:
Now there’s a distraction from rape and abortion and tax records.
When Israel strikes Iran in October
Israel is in a political and security quandary
Why?
Because they believe Barack Obama has a reasonable expectation of being re-elected to the White House – and, if he is, he is likely, unconstrained by concerns about a future election, to be a political liability in the wake of such an action.
However, if the strike is made prior to the election, Obama is much more likely not to condemn Israel. It just wouldn’t be a popular political move for him. Even most Democrats in the U.S. Congress will support Israel’s right to defend itself.
But here’s the quandary – not only for Israel but for Americans who want to see Obama defeated in 2012: Will that kind of “October surprise” indeed help Obama to win the election?
Historically speaking, sitting presidents have a distinct political advantage during worldwide military crises. Will that be the case for Obama in the wake of a major military strike on Iran in October, just weeks or days before the vote?
On the one hand, most Israeli leaders would like to see Obama, the harshest critic of Israel ever to reside in the White House, be defeated in November. But, on the other hand, they have their own nation’s self-interest hanging in the balance.
No one is talking about this, but because the November election is likely to be close, this “October surprise” could well provide the tipping point for Obama.
Or, are Americans so fed up with the deteriorating economy and the leadership of Obama that they will overlook instability in the world and vote their pocketbooks and good sense?
I don’t know the answer to this question, but it’s something to think about.
As it stands now, the election is too close to call – and, in the minds of Israeli leaders, the strong possibility of an Obama re-election must be considered in the equation. As long as that is the case, you can take it to the bank that October is the likely time for a strike on Iran.
Personally, I am much more optimistic that Obama will be voted out of office in November. But I wouldn’t bet my life on it. And neither is Israel willing to bet its life on it.
That’s why 2012′s “October surprise” might not be so surprising at all – for those who understand the politics of the Middle East.
@ rain of lead:
I don’t understand why Netanyahu would do anything that might help Jugears; it’s not in Israel’s best interest that Zero get re-elected. Netanyahu is not an idiot and has been dissed sufficiently by Jugears that he knows how a second Obama term would turn out.
@ AZfederalist:
that’s the quandary
do nothing and maybe have your nation die
or attack and maybe see jugears re-elected and maybe see your nation die

Hey, Rodan: keep an eye on Invest 94L.
Drudge’s link and WaPo are saying it might “wreak havoc” and even “wreck” the GOP convention. But as I’m reading the chart, it more has this storm raking the south and mainland of Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and Cuba.
Florida is probably safe; and honestly WaPo and Drudge’s interest in this storm seems… unseemly. (They’re focusing on the GOP and not on the people.) More likely there will be damage in the upper Caribbean and I’m not at all looking forward to that.
So, be careful out there in Florida; but if you know people south, ask them to be more careful out there.

Invest 94L has a long way to go.
And if it goes over Cuba like the last update that I saw, it might be ingested by their inner terrain. Plus, there is an unexpected cooling of the GOM waters that are expected this week which will decrease the hazards of a hurricaine.
