The Obama Boom: Only 96,000 jobs added in August; Unemployment rate drops to 8.1% due to workforce shrinkage!

The Great Obama Boom that Bill Clinton and Joe Biden were bragging about continues to make history! A total of 96,000 jobs were added for the month of August. Of that total, 87,000 were not real jobs but the labor department’s birth-death model. That means only 9,000 net jobs were created last month.

Employment growth remained weak in August, with just 96,000 new positions created but the unemployment rate dropped to 8.1 percent, according to a report that raises the possibility of more Federal Reserve easing.

The decline in the jobless rate, from 8.3 percent in July, came primarily because the labor force participation rate fell to 63.5 percent, its worst level in more than 30 years. The civilian labor force contracted by 368,000.

[....]

But job reports for June and July were revised lower. The June count fell from 64,000 to 45,000, while July’s number came in at 141,000 from an originally reported 163,000.

[....]

The Labor Department’s birth-death model, which approximates jobs created by new businesses during the month, added 87,000 to the total, making it primarily responsible for the net job gains.

This is a terrible jobs report. Just 9,000 real jobs created for the month of August. This explains why last night Obama pulled a Caligula. King Putt promised to end droughts and forest fires. He told people to share their faith with him, so he can take them to a better place. He declared himself a god last night. Obama knew ahead of time about the bad jobs report and will run on being a god-king.

Mitt Romney has a huge opening with this report. He needs to hammer the fact that job growth is anemic and labor participation is at 30 year lows. Romney should point out the decline in the unemployment rate is due to people leaving the workforce. He should mock Obama for promising to use “godlike” powers to stop droughts and wildfires. If Obama can’t even fix the economy, how can he stop mother nature? This is why the Democrats and Obama have doubled down on the god-king theme. There is no Obama Boom!

Romney should point out the decline in the unemployment rate is due to people leaving the workforce.

    The NYT did, grudgingly.

Sorry for the very early O/T, but I’ve seen this story up on drudge, and it seems so emblematic of the kind of healthcare I expect to end up with under embalm-a-care.

Man dies after doc takes lunch during kidney op

A 72-year-old man having a tumour removed from his kidney died after the chief anesthetist and nurse took a lunch break in the middle of the surgery.

The incident, which took place at the Lidköping hospital, has prompted stinging criticism from Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen).

The 72-year-old went under anesthetic at 10.45am on the day of the operation, which took place in January 2011.

At noon sharp, the head anesthetist left the operating room to go for lunch. Fifteen minutes later, the head nurse anesthetist also left the patient and went for lunch.

No other anesthetist was called in to take over responsibility for the doctor who was on his lunch break.

And while another nurse was brought in to cover for the nurse anesthetist, the nurse who arrived came from the orthopedic ward and wasn’t familiar with the respirator to which the 72-year-old was attached.

Suddenly, the patient started hemorrhaging and his blood pressure started to drop, sparking a “chaotic” situation.

As the patient’s condition became critical shortly before 1pm, the substitute nurse tried desperately to reach the lunching anesthetist, but to no avail.

This just blows me away. I just can’t see medical personal taking a lunch break in the middle of a procedure. Not to mention this was kidney surgery on a 72 year old! Healthcare with all the caring of the DMV.

    @ Guggi:
I noticed a number of venues did that. I think that these numbers are so grim even the media is having to play somewhat straight with them. People know when the economy is this bad. It is almost impossible not to. Almost everyone either has lost a job or knows someone who has. Millions, too, are underemployed. When you add up the real unemployment and the underemployment you have Depression levels. It is hard to put a good face on that.

Actually, I did; I’ve watched the unfortunate assemblage for the last two nights….just been a bit “out of pocket”.

The good Cardinal was most eloquent in his admonition against abortion, as well as his championing of religious freedom. Earlier, you said he was booed -- I didn’t hear it, is that the case?

  21. 21 | September 7, 2012 1:15 pm

The text of Timothy Cardinal Dolan’s closing prayer at the DNC:
With a “firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence,” let us close this convention by praying for this land that we so cherish and love:

    Let us Pray.

Almighty God, father of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, revealed to us so powerfully in your Son, Jesus Christ, we thank you for showering your blessings upon this our beloved nation. Bless all here present, and all across this great land, who work hard for the day when a greater portion of your justice, and a more ample measure of your care for the poor and suffering, may prevail in these United States. Help us to see that a society’s greatness is found above all in the respect it shows for the weakest and neediest among us.

We beseech you, almighty God to shed your grace on this noble experiment in ordered liberty, which began with the confident assertion of inalienable rights bestowed upon us by you: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Thus do we praise you for the gift of life. Grant us the courage to defend it, life, without which no other rights are secure. We ask your benediction on those waiting to be born, that they may be welcomed and protected. Strengthen our sick and our elders waiting to see your holy face at life’s end, that they may be accompanied by true compassion and cherished with the dignity due those who are infirm and fragile.

We praise and thank you for the gift of liberty. May this land of the free never lack those brave enough to defend our basic freedoms. Renew in all our people a profound respect for religious liberty: the first, most cherished freedom bequeathed upon us at our Founding. May our liberty be in harmony with truth; freedom ordered in goodness and justice. Help us live our freedom in faith, hope, and love. Make us ever-grateful for those who, for over two centuries, have given their lives in freedom’s defense; we commend their noble souls to your eternal care, as even now we beg the protection of your mighty arm upon our men and women in uniform.

We praise and thank you for granting us the life and the liberty by which we can pursue happiness. Show us anew that happiness is found only in respecting the laws of nature and of nature’s God. Empower us with your grace so that we might resist the temptation to replace the moral law with idols of our own making, or to remake those institutions you have given us for the nurturing of life and community. May we welcome those who yearn to breathe free and to pursue happiness in this land of freedom, adding their gifts to those whose families have lived here for centuries.

We praise and thank you for the American genius of government of the people, by the people and for the people. Oh God of wisdom, justice, and might, we ask your guidance for those who govern us: President Barack Obama, Vice President Joseph Biden, Congress, the Supreme Court, and all those, including Governor Mitt Romney and Congressman Paul Ryan, who seek to serve the common good by seeking public office. Make them all worthy to serve you by serving our country. Help them remember that the only just government is the government that serves its citizens rather than itself. With your grace, may all Americans choose wisely as we consider the future course of public policy.

And finally Lord, we beseech your benediction on all of us who depart from here this evening, and on all those, in every land, who yearn to conduct their lives in freedom and justice. We beg you to remember, as we pledge to remember, those who are not free; those who suffer for freedom’s cause; those who are poor, out of work, needy, sick, or alone; those who are persecuted for their religious convictions, those still ravaged by war.

And most of all, God Almighty, we thank you for the great gift of our beloved country.

For we are indeed “one nation under God,” and “in God we trust.”

So dear God, bless America. You who live and reign forever and ever.

    Amen!

Methinks the President has made a formidable enemy in Cardinal Dolan.

They love Islam because the blacks love Islam. The blacks love Islam because it justifies hatred and murder, so it easily justifies the racism and racist violence which are so popular in the black community, and because it rejects Christianity, which the blacks see as rejecting white society.

The greatest disaster of the Civil Rights Movement was the wholesale failure of the larger society to recognize or address the deep-rooted race hatred in the black community. All of affirmative action was basically a payoff to the loudest racists to keep their people from rioting.

    Grumbles about Obama at dailykos

They want him to work the down ticket and get control of both houses. But he already had that didn’t he? And Pelosi castrated him.

Incredible. They’re out of control and if the Dem mainstream (if they even exist anymore), they’ll go even further out of control. I think there’s a lot middle-Americans out there who still call themselves Democrat who looked at that Convention and were horrified. Republicans, on the other hand seemed boring and, at times, a bit stiff, but they were safe and stable. We could well be seeing the beginnings of a major demographic/political shift afoot.

@ 72 Rodan: Afro Centric Ancestors are the ones who created slavery. Modern slavery is just the chickens coming home to roost. Karma. It took northern white european generated ideas of freedom to end slavery.

Not a racial thing but just a manner of how civilization and religion were flowing across the world. Empty space essentially ended slavery.

    @ MacDuff:

I think that the repubs were also realists in that they had the debt clock up there. The Dems were all about more, more and more govt spending.

    @ Rodan:

Jews and Christians are societal assimilators; they adapt to, and enhance society. Muslims are not assimilators; they’re perennial outsiders and insurgents, destroying any society of which they inhabit. In every meaning of the word, they’re parasites.

The Black racists view Arabs as Blacks.

Just as the black racists consider the ancient Egyptians as “black.” Well, the Egyptians were probably swarthy, but there are sandals from Pharaonic tombs which have clearly-black figures painted on the soles so that the Pharaoh can symbolically subjugate them by walking on them.

What the black-racist appropriation of other cultures is about is the fact that American blacks came from a variety of tribes and cultures. They reject their identity as Americans, despite the many contributions black Americans have made to American culture, and despite the fact that anyone descended from slaves has had family in this country far longer than all but a relatively few number of people.

Instead of embracing an Americanness that would give them a proud heritage, the black racists embrace a Fantasy Africanness that relies on a total distortion of fact and history. It’s tragic; they’re throwing away gold bars in exchange for dried camel dung.

Good God! Like I said, the DNC convention was a freakshow of political pornography. There might not have been many gun-toting beer drinkers there, but they certainly cornered the market on lisping sissy males metrosexuals.

I love that image of Obama. It goes back to 2008. You can almost see the skittles flying out of his butt.

I also love this explanation of Clint Eastwood on his improve performance last week: Mission Accomplished!
