NCAA Football Week 3, 2012 and Open Thread

AND…Saturday Afternoon Open Thread. See, we CAN chew gum and blog at the same time!

Anyway, Bunk has a great post in Special Report on Fed Chair Ben. Do check it out.

Week 3 NCAA Football:

1 Alabama (48) 2-0 1486
2 USC (8) 2-0 1414
3 LSU (4) 2-0 1404
4 Oregon 2-0 1299
5 Oklahoma 2-0 1160
5 Florida State 2-0 1160
7 Georgia 2-0 1155
8 South Carolina 2-0 1025
9 West Virginia 1-0 1017
10 Michigan State 2-0 995

‘Bama needs to be real careful today at Arkansas (1530 est). The Razor Backs are a quality team and are fired up to knock off their SEC rival. Alabama is giving 20 points in Reno. I might go against this line.

In other interesting match-ups:
12:30 PM Presbyterian at Vanderbilt…that’s right. The Presbyterians have a football team and they will be praying hard against the mostly Baptist Vanderbilt side. Can the high-church prevail? I think not. Oddly, there are no odds on this game!

3:30 PM Navy at Penn State…GO NANY! BEAT PSU!!! (That was tough for an Army guy to chant…) PSU is giving 7 to Navy.

6:00 PM No. 18 Florida at No. 23 Tennessee always a great game. The Gators are my favorite FL team, but in this game I will be singin’ Rocky Top! TN is giving 3. This should be fun.

6:30 PM Ohio at Marshall If you get this game try to watch it. Should be some quality football. Ohio wins this in a close one.

7:30 PM No. 2 USC at No. 21 Stanford…GO CARDINAL!!!! USC is still over rated and over ranked. I would love to see Stanford pull this out. Stanford is a 9 point dog at home. I just can’t see Stanford wining this, I can maybe see them covering the spread. USC will need to play some SEC teams to convince me that they are for real. The PAC-12 is weak. Stanford’s Defense will wear out in the 4th.

8:00 PM No. 20 Notre Dame at No. 10 Michigan State. Now THIS should be a fine football game. MSU is  6 point favorite at home. Look for a quality win here by the Spartans.

10:00 PM No. 25 Brigham Young at Utah. Utah is a 3.5 point favorite at home. I think Utah can win this. They need to after last year’s thrashing. This is a picke ‘em in Vegas. Mu money goes on Utah.

10:30 PM South Carolina State at No. 24 Arizona. This is another pick ‘em. And I pick the Gamecocks! The SEC is deep and talented. The Pac-dozen, not so much.

And for just some tidbits of info. Bill Maher outs himself as an anti-semite. And some moron talking head named Randi Rhodes says Conservatives are trying to “piss away” the “arab democracy”.

Press celebrates the anniversary of the failed OWS movement. Remains silent on the Tea Party after failing to find a single incident of racism.

    What a week.

Football. Bro tells me MSU is probably the strongest team in the Big 10. They’ll be the ones to watch this year.

Bucks will probably win 9 games and lose a few. The offense doesn’t show up until the end of the 2nd quarter. Our QB runs to much-- he won’t last the season if he keeps that up. Not the sharpest tool in the shed either. Defense is ok, but their weakness is the secondary. Always was.

8:00 PM No. 20 Notre Dame at No. 10 Michigan State.

Thats the game I want to watch, but way past my bed time this side of the pond. Go Irish!

Have a good weekend everyone. Won’t be around for a few weeks.

    I can see that :-)

I hear the Navy will fly over Beaver Stadium in recognition of Lt Michael P. Murphy before the game. The memorial(donated by the class of 2011) for vets and Murphy was dedicated yesterday at Schwab auditorium and next to Old Main. Murphy’s dad spoke, his parents are remarkable people. And the audience was filled with nice folks to be around

Samuel L. Jackson’s New Ad: ‘Wake the F--k Up, Vote for Obama’

Lots of Hollywood’s “finest” have come out in support of the current White House resident, but possibly none as strongly as Samuel L. Jackson.

According to the New York Post, the actor will be featured in a new pro-Obama ad beseeching voters with a one of his favorite vulgarities (severe vulgarity warning):

They picked the perfect actor for a political ad loaded with f-bombs.

Samuel L. Jackson will film a provocative spot supporting President Obama’s re-election bid as early as tomorrow — telling voters to “Wake the f--k up, Vote for Obama.”

    Isn’t that nice?

Of course, this is a riff on a children’s book Jackson narrated last year disgracefully titled “Go the F--k to Sleep”:

According to the Post, the ad is being paid for by the Jewish Council for Education and Research Super PAC.

Back in July, this group sponsored an ad featuring vulgarian comedienne Sarah Silverman offering billionaire Mitt Romney supporter Sheldon Adelson a sexual favor to back Obama instead.

Also of note, Jackson this past February told Ebony magazine, “I voted for Barack because he was black.”

If that was the case, why do we all need to “wake the f--k up” now?

Obama compares his campaign volunteers to slain embassy staff

In a pep talk, President Obama bizarrely compared the sacrifices made by his campaign volunteers in Nevada to those made by the U.S. ambassador and embassy staff murdered in Libya, The Examiner reports based on a press pool report.

    Obama is quoted as saying:

And obviously [our] hearts are broken for the families but I wanted to encourage those folks at the State Department that they were making a difference. The sacrifices that our troops and our diplomats make are obviously very different from the challenges that we face here domestically but like them, you guys are Americans who sense that we can do better than we’re doing … I’m just really proud of you.

  28. 28 | September 15, 2012 1:59 pm

    Have you guys seen this?

I spoke with a well-placed journalist last night whose sources describe the situation at the State Department in one word: “Chaos.” The working assumption is that several American embassies may have been penetrated, or are vulnerable to attack, because so many of them rely on local residents for staff needs at the embassy, and as such may be in a position to breach security if they have been recruited by Al Qaida. Moreover, the full story of the attack on the Benghazi consulate is much worse than we have been told (except by the Independent newspaper report John and I linked to here on Thursday).

Hillary Clinton is so incompetant. She’d have been just as bad as Obama. For different reasons (well, she hates America too, just for different reasons than Obama), but I don’t want to hear how she’d have made a great President from anyone anymore.

Hey good lookin! Ohio State playing Cal right now. I figure with current state of Cal football, this is one of OSU’s “gimmee” games they give the Top 25. I didn’t expect a win but with OSU leading only by 6 in the 3rd is actually good for Cal confidence.

The OSU team plays up, or down, to their opponents. I could never explain that either. I’de give the new coach a couple of years to recruit and restructure to his ideals. No bowl game this year, but the only game for me that matters is the one on 24 Nov.

Alleged ‘Innocence of Muslims’ filmmaker taken for questioning, was huge donor to Obama campaign

[Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve] Whitmore told The Times that [Nakoula Basseley] Nakoula was taken in for a voluntary interview with probation officials and has not been arrested or detained.

Authorities waited until most media had left for the day to take Nakoula in.

Earlier Friday, sheriff’s deputies had to escort attorneys through a scrum of news cameras into Nakoula’s home. When the man was taken away early Saturday, authorities had to dodge only a lone photographer for The Times and a few lingering reporters.

Nakoula has told the Associated Press that he was a logistics manager on the “Innocence of Muslims” movie, not the director. He told a Coptic Christian bishop on Thursday that he had no role in it, the clergyman told The Times.

Nakoula is believed to use the alias Sam Bacile, which was the name a caller who took credit for the film gave to the AP and the Wall Street Journal.

On Friday, U.S. courts spokeswoman Karen Redmond said the Office of Probation in the Central District of California was reviewing whether Nakoula, who has been convicted on bank fraud charges, violated terms of his probation in relation to the video and its uploading onto the Internet.

He had been ordered not to own or use devices with access to the Internet without approval from his probation officer -– and any approved computers were to be used for work only. “Defendant shall not access a computer for any other purpose,” the terms read.

Restrictions were also placed on him enlisting others to get on the Internet for him.

    Blame the movie.

Even though “the movie” was on YouTube for months prior to the collective indignation of thousands of Middle Eastern Islamists all coming together on the eleventh anniversary of September 11th (through a wild coincidence, no doubt), we are being told by our government and our media overlords that we must blame the movie.

You see, if we blame the movie for the burning of our foreign outposts and the brutal murders of four Americans (including our Libyan ambassador who was reportedly raped), we won’t blame the burners and the looters and the murderers and the rapists.

You see, if we blame the movie for the Middle East burning, we won’t blame the Islamists who are doing the burning and looting and raping and murdering.

Which means we won’t further connect the dots and blame Obama’s failed Middle East policy; the Obama Doctrine of backing away from the region and allowing events to unfold as America stands idly by — as the Islamists in the Muslim Brotherhood grab hold of power in Egypt, a country that was once our largest and closest ally.

    Blame the filmmaker.

    Hunt him.

    Out him.

    Demonize him.

    Burn the straw man!

And all at the direction of a president of the United States who has sworn to uphold the Constitution, you know, the same Constitution that treasures the right of free expression and speech above all else.

But no one asks … What about Bill Maher?

    Bill Maher?

Bill Maher made a comedy/documentary called “Religulous” that’s most famous for mercilessly mocking Christianity. But what people forget is that the last twenty-minutes or so of the film make a damning case against Islam.

Bill Maher made a film that mocked Islam.

    Oh, yes, he did.

Bill Maher also contributed $1 million to a pro-Obama super PAC.

And I’m sure that upon being reminded of this, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will tremble with self-righteous indignation and demand Maher take his money back.

After all, if movies create the terrorists who in turn create the terrorism, what about Bill Maher?

And what if the terrorists learn that the president of the United States is benefitting from a million dollar contribution given by a filmmaker who mocked Islam? How will Hillary Clinton claim with any credibility that the United States government has no connection to this outrage?

    (…)

Now that we know movies create terrorism, the White House must stop Sony’s “Killing bin Laden” film.

Our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ of Nazareth is planning a trip
    to the US.
He will spend some time in South Bend working with quarterbacks
at his Mothers School. From there He will head to New York for
    UN meetings.
He requested a meeting with Obama, but received this Letter.

    Dear Mr. Christ,
It is regret that I must inform you that President Obama
will not have time to meet with you. His calendar is full
with an appearance on the Letterman Show, meetings with
Beyonce & Jay Z. He will also be meeting with the Pimp with
    a Limp.
Be advised that the Presidents time is valuable. The attached
memo will explain that there is a new Messiah in town.
    Yours Truly,

He is a disgusting president and is truly a horrible president. Yet they just can’t vote for a Republican. Why? Well Romney’s rich. Oh yeah obama isn’t rich with your tax dollars.

Teen charged with trying to blow up Chicago bar

URGENT: FBI agents have arrested a man they say planned to set off a car bomb outside a bar in downtown Chicago.

Federal prosecutors say 18-year-old Adel Daoud was arrested Friday night in an undercover operation in which agents pretending to be extremists provided him with a phony car bomb.

The U.S. District Attorney’s Office in Chicago said in a news release Saturday the device was inert and the public was never at risk.

Daoud is a U.S. citizen from the Chicago suburb of Hillside.

He was charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to damage and destroy a building with an explosive.

Federal prosecutors say the FBI began monitoring him after he posted material online about violent jihad and the killing of Americans.

//No word yet on a motive, although they’re checking to see if he watched any anti-Muslim videos…

Colorado school seizes rosary beads from student, calls them ‘gang’ symbol

Officials at a Colorado high school reportedly confiscated rosary beads from a student, claiming the religious necklace is affiliated with gangs and disruptive to learning.

Manuel Vigil, a 16-year-old junior at Thompson Valley High School in Loveland, said administrators offered no explanation when they seized the rosary beads twice since school started three weeks ago, Fox affiliate KDVR reported.

“They tell me I can’t wear them,” Vigil told the station, adding that he wears the beads to protect himself from harm.

“I use them for prayer. I feel safe when I have them on,” he said.

Officials, however, claim the religious necklace is not safe for school.

Insanity at it’s best. As a Catholic I have a Rosary in my car, my purse and near me. Never know when I need to pray. Plus I’m in no gang.

Community leaders, Vimes thought. There’d been a lot of talk about community leaders lately, as in “community leaders appealed for calm,” a phrase the Times used so often that the printers probably left it set in type. Vimes wondered who they were and how they were appointed, and, sometimes, if “appealing for calm” meant winking and saying “do not use those shiny new battle-axes in that cupboard over there… no, not that one, the other one.”

    “True Lies” sounds appropriate.

That’s the first movie I can recall Muslims being pissed off about.

When that movie came out I was too busy raising my two sons and such. I read the news and such…but I was not really poltitical at all. There were more pressing issues ..I did vote and did do some research on who I voted for (that just seems like common sense to me). But I have to admit that 9/11 woke me up and made me really do my homework. What I learned made me want to vomit.

What’s the resemblance? Is he saying that the rest of his campaign volunteers are either gay men from Chicago or Sufi Muslims or both?

This is horrible isn’t it? Why don’t these people who think obamacare is just the bees-knees ask their doctor about it if they don’t want to read it?
What really blows their mind and makes me a liar to them is I ask this question, If obamacare is so great why is the IRS invovled in it?
