Here’s extra debate thread unless the first one gets boggy. Let’s get to it.

Comments

Comments and respectful debate are both welcome and encouraged.

Comments are the sole opinion of the comment writer, just as each thread posted is the sole opinion or post idea of the administrator that posted it or of the readers that have written guest posts for the Blogmocracy.

Obscene, abusive, or annoying remarks may be deleted or moved to spam for admin review, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their content by any other commenter or the admins of this Blogmocracy.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!

I don’t believe the Chair when he talks of supporting Israel if attacked. If he means it he wouldn’t have gone to Cairo in his first six months of office for a major foreign speech.

    VDH

In the third debate, Obama had to show in 90 minutes that the first two debates were a fluke, and that Romney was not presidential enough to end his tenure. He did not do that by any means; for all his pique, interruptions, and attacks, Obama scored few points against the workmanlike Romney who knew that he simply did not have to lose. In any debate, when the two score comparable points, the more aggressive and petulant usually comes off less well, especially given that Romney’s tone and expression were more like the reflective performance of his wildly successful first debate. The take-away quotes and sound bites from the debate will favor Romney

    @ song_and_dance_man:

The one thing about this debate that goes beyond what was said is the demeanor of the two. Mitt looked unperturbed and gentil, ready and willing to pounce, whereas Chair appeared antsy and like a cornered foe that he was, a bit to anxious to get his points announced.

This was another opportunity for Mitt to show the country his real personality and competence in contrast to the endless smearing that the Chair (the lying Chair) has been saying about him all year.

Mitt was calm and qualified with the appropriate level of gravitas to be President of the United States.

The Chair loses on all three of these things.

The only horses I ever saw in 32 years in the Army were ceremonial ones. The Old Guard has some that they use for funerals, and several of the posts in the southwest have ceremonial horse units (Fort Bliss, Fort Sill and Fort Hood, of the top of my head).

Air Force instituted the horse program at Vandenburg in 94 for environmental and area accessibility reasons.

From a transcript. One of the best lines Mitt had to offer in response to Chairs defense of his foreign policy.

We’re four years closer to a nuclear Iran. We’re four years closer to a nuclear Iran. And — and we should not have wasted these four years to the extent they’ve — they continue to be able to spin these centrifuges and get that much closer. That’s number one.

Mr. President, the reason I call it an apology tour is because you went to the Middle East and you flew to — to Egypt and to Saudi Arabia and to — to Turkey and Iraq. And — and by way, you skipped Israel, our closest friend in the region, but you went to the other nations. And by the way, they noticed that you skipped Israel. And then in those nations and on Arabic TV you said that America had been dismissive and derisive. You said that on occasion America had dictated to other nations.

    Guess where this came from:

It was Obama who appeared to be the challenger at times – a clear sign that he fears his re-election hopes are slipping away from him – hammering away at Romney, trying to belittle him and all but calling him a liar.

Romney tried to remain above the fray and appeal to moderate and undecided voters. He was noticeably less tetchy than in the bad-tempered second debate in Hempstead, New York.

But the Republican nominee hit home with a precise attack on Obama’s ‘apology tour’ of the Middle East in 2009, which seemed to rile Obama visibly. He said that the President had said he was sorry the U.S. had dictated to countries, adding: ‘Mr President we have not dictated to other nations, we have freed other nations from dictators’.

Believe it or not, this is on the British website for the tabloid newspaper that specializes in news about celebrities and human interest stories -- The Daily Mail!

They’ve been siding more with Romney during all the debates!!

    What’s up with that?

It’s WAR! Unfriendly fire as Obama says Romney treats military as ‘game of Battleship’ but Mitt blasts rival’s ‘apologies’ in final debate

You’re ignoring what I’m saying. We were the exception not the rule. All of the other bases I listed have their own stables and support crew for the horses. THEY ARE NOT LOCAL PROCUREMENT. They are trained and assigned the same way as K-9 are assigned.

We only had local procurement because we seldom had a major security issue in a difficult area.

The Philippines and Panama are nothing but inaccessible. And as I said Vandenburgs horse program is fairly new. They are using it so as not to use vehicles in the areas outside of the base.

The only horses listed in my info that are ceremonial are the ones at the AF Academy. Other than that all are working horses and military trained.

And I know that the AF is not the only service that has horses in these difficult to access areas. They are a requirement and necessary. They are purchased or raised, and trained by the military. They are a vital part of our military yesterday, today, and in the future. There are just things they can do that we can’t do any other way.

(Not meaning to be grouchy about the horse thing, but I was AF Security and worked with several guys that had worked with the horses. Very familiar with the training program through second hand info. Also know that they are actual military horses and not local procurement. In fact the ones at Fort Bragg are the very horses that trained our SF for the local procurement that they got in Astan. I know if the AF is using horses, then the Marines and Army have to be. We prided ourselves on being high tech more than the other services except maybe Navy, and if we had them then the “more primitive” military forces would have more than us.)

Fortunately, Leia doesn’t get on the furniture. She used to, but she doesn’t anymore. Not sure why that is.

She used to sleep on the couch when she thought everyone was asleep.

Like the black and white clumps of fur weren’t a giveaway.

    Where is CW tonight?

I’m watching a repeat of the debate since I was forced to watch some stupid game called baseball earlier tonight.

Obama thinks ALL medics should be given a nursing license and certifications/degrees changed?

There apparently is some issue with civilian schools accepting the training given to Army medics. The current version of the 68WM6 MOS is basically equivalent to LPN training, but most schools don’t give them credit for it.

  469. 472 | October 23, 2012 4:40 am

Humpf. Guess I’ll wash up last night’s dishes.

I’m not even going to look around for opinions RE the debate, since just knowing who wrote or published any given opinion pretty much already tells you what it will say. I’ll just watch the poll numbers. Ones released on Thurday/Friday ought to tell the tale with accuracy.

  470. 473 | October 23, 2012 5:53 am

Okay, I did read Dr. K’s analysis.
    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/10/22/krauthammer_romney_won_unequivocally_obamas_responses_were_petty.html

And I think he may have the right of it, even though many (including himself, self-admittedly) would have preferred more “blood on the floor” from Mitt. The polling following the second debate lends credence to his point. Thursday/Friday poll number releases will tell the tale.

    Film at 11…

At best for Obama it was a tactical draw. Strategically Obama couldn’t afford a draw.
All Romney needed to do was to tie tactically. Doing that Romney won BIG time Strategically.
    The momentum is maintained.
Obama is toast in November unless he pulls a rabbit out of the hat in foreign affairs. Even then I think he’s still toast because IT’S THE ECONOMY STUPID.

I think the US is getting itself a new President.

You guys may just have dodged a bullet.

Must be all that clean living :)

    @ Lost:

Well, if I lived in an urban center and had to transit “not optimal” neighborhoods, I might makes plans to alter my routine for a day or two or more, just in case. It might just get ugly in selected areas. Not in that situation myself, and like you (IIRC), I’m out of the country at the moment anyway. But a word of caution to those whose situation is otherwise, yes?

The Aussie progressive ‘spinmeisters’ are hard at their spinning mills calling it a rout for Obama. These guys need to get out more. We have progressives in total denial down-under . They just can’t believe that their tin pot little god is losing. Their collective(ist) heads will explode in November.

These people really can’t keep saying that black is white and that water runs uphill forever can they? Maybe they are determined to die muttering their cultish mantras of marxism and hate. A few progressives are slowly backing away from the Obama bandwagon however. Some are the dyed in the wool neo-Marxist types who crave blood in the streets. They think Obama sold out their tin pot ‘revolution’. The other lot of progressives are setting up their post Obama place as ‘wise nostrums’ and will bore everyone with endless raking over the coals of a failed socialist dream … and try to get paid by someone for doing it.

The American left can’t even threaten to run away to Canada as the Canadian PM is even more conservative than any US Republican presidency will be. They can’t go to Mexico where the cartels will use them for target practice.

    Watch out Bolivia.

The Yanks are coming! LOL :)

Here’s what happens to Aussie Infidels if they convert to Islam:

Forty lashes for having a drink

CRISTIAN Martinez was physically sick and begged “please no more” as four men held him down and whipped him 40 times with an electrical cord as punishment under sharia law for drinking alcohol.

But his attackers told him it was his body being “cleansed” by Allah, he told Burwood Local Court yesterday.

Mr Martinez said the “unbearable pain” was so bad he wanted to jump from his balcony rather than face more lashings.

Four men charged over the attack -- Zakaryah Raad, 21, Tolga Cifci, 21, Wassim Fayad, 44 and Cengiz Coskun, 22 -- faced court yesterday.

They all pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm after the alleged attack at Mr Martinez’s Silverwater home in July last year. They denied stealing CCTV footage from cameras at the home.

Mr Martinez told the court yesterday he had been drinking and taking cocaine at the Ivy nightclub and had contacted Fayad because he saw him as “his spiritual leader” after his recent conversion to Islam. ….

    @ Fritz Katz:
I kind of felt bad for the fellow but what in the world was he thinking?

  478. 481 | October 23, 2012 7:28 am

Well, I’ve read the reviews, and it sounds like Mitt did fine last night. He doesn’ really possess the killer instinct I’d like (especially in regards to our Mohammedan enemy), but he’ll do. He did what he had to do last night, which was look credibly Presidential. Obama, apparently, did not. That’ll bring in the undecideds, whomever they are. I find it hard to believe anyone is really undecided at this stage. DO you want four more years of stagnation and decline? If so, vote for Obama. DO you want the possibility of a brighter future? If so, vote for Mitt. It really is that simple. Obama has shown us what he’ll do with the economy, and the economy is the biggest issue we face. The second biggest is foreign policy, though, and Obama has been an unmitigated disaster at that as well. They only people doing well under Obama are the parasite classes, especially the government bureaucrats in DC. Thay’ve been making out like bandits under Obama, and will no doubt vote for him to a man. Big government loves big government. Who could have seen that coming? In any event, Mitt’s Gallup poll numbers have been holding steady over 50% for better than a week now. No one with that kind of lead has gone on to lose before this. I don’t expect this to be an exception to that rule.

  479. 482 | October 23, 2012 7:30 am

    @ Lost:

He probably thought Islam was like Catholocism, where if you confessed you’d be given some minimal pennance and be forgiven. Mohammedans aren’t into forgiveness. He’s probably lucky they didn’t cut off his head.

  487. 490 | October 23, 2012 8:35 am

    @ waldensianspirit:

It is still awfully hard to hit an aircraft carrier. The Russians and probably the Chinese can do it. I doubt that the Iraninas can. I know they have Silkworm missiles, but We have Aegis destroyers in aircraft carrier battle groups. And a carrier is still the best way (short of nukes) to project power around the world. We need our carrier battle groups. If Obama had been smart, he’d have added anothe rone to our arsenal as part of his trillion dollar “stimulus”. But that would have benefitted the United States, provided real jobs to the shipwrights who built her, and had a number of other consequences that Obama would have considered “not optimal”. Also, there is less room for graft when building a carrier battle group. He’d rather funnel the money into a few dozen Solyndras, where that money can be siphoned off by supporters and recycled into campaign donations.

  488. 491 | October 23, 2012 8:39 am

    @ eaglesoars:

I’ve known that. Bill O’Reilly isn’t really a conservative. He just sees a market and plays to it. His opinion on gun control alone costs him any real conservative cred he might have built up from other positions.

Were you watching that nite he was talking about ‘assault weapons’? he has no idea what the law is re: registration, etc. I doutbt the guy could figure out the business end of an air gun.
