Considering all that’s at stake this week, your humble correspondent almost forgot to report on the games dominating the airwaves today and tomorrow – a little enjoyable respite from the political footballs being lobbed this week. The biggest contest of course, comes Tuesday, and is an all–day affair. And it’s not spectator sport either – everyone needs to participate in this game! (Like anyone here needs to be reminded to vote).
We’re still keeping those that endured Superstorm Sandy in our prayers and thoughts. And for Speranza – wherever you are – hurry home because it isn’t the same around here without you.
In any event, here are the matchups for this week.
Broncos @ Bengals
Ravens @ Browns
Cardinals @ Packers
Bills @ Texans
Dolphins @ Colts
Lions @ Jaqquars
Bears @ Titans
Panthers @ Redskins (whose Heisman QB reigns Supreme?)
Bucanneers @ Raiders (so much pirate – so little Johnny Depp)
Vikings @ Seahawks (If only I could get past my hatred for Pete Carroll,….)
Steelers @ Giants
Cowboys @ Falcons
Monday Night Game
Eagles @ Saints (Cajun dog lovers no doubt will give the Dog Killer a warm welcome)
Byes this week: Patriots, Jets, Rams, 49ers
Tuesday’s Matchups
Obama v. Romney (thinking shut out people!)

Giants/Steelers now there is a love fest
I wonder why they play that Giants game when they cancelled the Marathon?

brookly red wrote:
Nukes don’t fizzle, they either explode as a conventional explosion or a nuclear explosion. If they explode as a conventional explosion, then they become a dirty bomb showering the area with massive amounts of radioactive material. If they achieve critical mass then you have a nuclear explosion, the size of which depends on the physical geometry of the device and it’s design efficiency.
However, if they set one off, regardless of whether it obtains critical mass, it still leaves a identifiable fingerprint. All refined fissionable materials have a isotopic finger print. That finger print is the percentage of and combination of both the trans, and non transuranic elements created in the refinement process.
All raw uranium ores have their own elemental impurities, every known large scale medium to high concentration ore deposit on earth has a unique signature. If you refine that ore, the refined fissionable material has a recognizable trace elemental signature. Analysis of the radioactive fallout produced by the detonation of a nuclear device will tell you where the ore came from and basically who refined it.
Why this is so, is because it is impossible to refine any metal to 100 percent pure, there are always trace elements you cannot refine out of the original ore. Since every ore has it’s own unique trace element signature it therefore follows that every refined fissionable material also has it’s own unique trace elemental signature.
Since refining is done by those with the knowledge of how and the equipment to do so, and none of that equipment is off the shelf equipment, and the exact process of refining is not a plug and play programmable solution, no two refineries produce identical refined fissionable material.
No nuclear power on earth is going to take the wrap for Iran setting off a nuclear device. The IAEA already has the signature of every verified nuclear capable nations refined material. Within a matter of months at the most the the uranium ore signature would be traced back to the ore’s point of origin. From their it would be traced to whoever purchased it and identified by the refinement process to the nation that refined it.
The exact type of device would be identified by the transuranic elements in the fallout, as their creation is a function of the efficiency of the device and it’s physical geometry. (also produced in the refinement process since the more you refine a fissionable material the more low level non critical fission takes place)
Transuranic materials require geometrically increasing levels of energy to produce. Each transuranic material one number higher on the periodic table takes a greater amount of energy to produce and indicates a greater level of efficiency in the device and a more complex physical geometry to the device.
In other words, if and when Iran detonates a nuclear device there will for all intents and purposes be a ten mile tall neon sign flashing over Tehran saying… HEY… WE DID THAT.

National Dance for Obama Day advertised its efforts thusly:
The weekend before Election Day, we’re turning up the heat and encouraging people to get out and vote with flash mobs across the country.

Democrats’ drive to retake House falters
Nancy Pelosi has spent much of the past two years proclaiming that Democrats had a great shot at reclaiming the House and returning the speaker’s gavel to her hands.
But her drive to regain the majority for Democrats is on the verge of a complete collapse. Democrats are expected to pick up five seats at best — a fraction of the 25 they need. On the eve of the election, some party officials are privately worried that Democrats might even lose ground and drop one or two seats to the Republican majority.

Nanny Bloomers: We Don’t Want the National Guard Keeping Order in New York City Because We Don’t Want Those Extra Icky Guns
Mayor Bloomberg has snubbed Borough President Markowitz’s impassioned plea to bring the National Guard to Hurricane Sandy-scarred Brooklyn — arguing that approving the Beep’s request would be a waste of federal manpower and turn the borough into a police state.
“We don’t need it,” Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the city’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”
When night falls in the Rockaways, the hoods come out.
Ever since Sandy strafed the Queens peninsula and tore up the boardwalk, it’s become an often lawless place where cops are even scarcer than electrical power and food. Locals say they are arming themselves with guns, baseball bats, booby traps — even a bow and arrow — to defend against looters.
…
“We booby-trapped our door and keep a baseball bat beside our bed,” said Danielle Harris, 34, rummaging through donated supplies as children rode scooters along half-block chunk of the boardwalk that had marooned into the middle of Beach 91st St.
“We heard gunshots for three nights in a row,” said Harris, who believed they came from the nearby housing projects.
Carly Ruggieri, 27, who lives in water-damaged house on the block, said she barricades her door with a bed frame. “There have been people in power department uniforms knocking on doors and asking if they’re okay, but at midnight.”
And another local surfer said he has knives, a machete and a bow and arrow on the ready. Gunshots and slow-rolling cars have become a common fixture of the night since Hurricane Sandy.
“I would take a looter with a boa [sic]. If I felt threatened I would definitely use it,” said Keone Singlehurst, 42. “Its like the Wild West. A borderline lawless situation.”

@ unclassifiable:
You know the people who have watched their crap…have something else to say.

Four-and-a-half years in the writing. I completed my Master’s, then participated in the canoe trip that is the subject of the book. When I returned, the economy went down the drain, and Obama was elected President.
@ Canoe Convoy:
Congrats on your book CC.

And, hello momcat. Glad to hear your COPD is stable.
Early this summer I got a pacemaker/defibrillator to fix my Congestive Heart Failure. It is working!
In fact, the defibrillator is working so well it misread my rapid heart rate and shocked me to my knees and blew my socks off one day.
Good times getting old!
