NFL Week Fini….

by Carolina Girl ( 270 Comments › )
Filed under Uncategorized at December 30th, 2012 - 12:45 pm

…well for the regular season at any rate. Hard to believe we wait 30 weeks and 17 go by so quickly (I don’t count exhibition, but I did count the playoffs/SuperBowl – who’s with me on the math? Exhibition’s entertaining and all, but….).

While the AFC playoff picture is complete – there’s still the matter of seeding. Denver and Houston both have a 12-3 record and wins today by both clinch the bye week. All playoff spots have been established. It’s like Spring – it’s all over there but the seeding….

In the NFC, Atlanta has clinched both the bye and home field advantage. The coach may want to give some serious thought to letting those second and third string players get some real playing time – you never know when you might need them in the playoffs and you don’t need them stepping out on the field in the Divisional with “oh sh_t!” looks on their faces (you know the look – Jim Harbaugh had it most of last season).

The Packers have clinched NFC North. A win today also secures them the first-round bye so they have something to play for. San Francisco needs a win to clinch the NFC West, but if they lose and Seattle wins, it’s wild-card city for these guys.

Which brings us to the NFC East. This is the only division who has no team with a payoff spot secured. The division winner won’t be decided until Sunday night. If either the Vikings or Bears win, the Giants only get into the playoffs with a win and a Dallas loss.   If the Redskins lose, they also need the Vikings and Bears both to lose to secure the second wild-card spot.

And here we go with the final matchups of the year — all being played on Sunday! And all are division matchups.  If there was ever a weekend to break out the good beer and get the high-end chicken fingers, this is it.

Buccaneers @ Falcons
Jets @ Bills
Ravens @ Bengals
Bears @ Lions
Texans @ Colts
Panthers @ Saints
Eagles @ Giants
Browns @ Steelers
Jaguars @ Titans
Chiefs @ Broncos
Packers @ Vikings
Dolphins @ Patriots
Raiders @ Chargers
Rams @ Seahawks
Cowboys @ Redskins

It’s been a great year, and on behalf of the Flyboy and the Football Savant Offspring, we wish you all a Happy Happy Happy New Year!  (Channeling my inner Duck Dynasty on that one).  The good news is, of course, that the end of my weekly column signals the resumption of the Sunday night radio show, I believe.

Well it will be nice to be looking forward to next season. Nice for the Saints to get this season over with.
/plus Sean Payton will be signed again with the Saints.
It would be nice if the Saints win today and finish a .500 but according to my son if they lose they get some better picks in the off season.

They aren’t playing good again this Sunday? Haven’t checked the scores… They have a chance to redeem themselves in the play-offs..they are still going to be in the play-offs. I’m not sure what is going on with them. They have thrown away home field advantage.
/The only game I remember really this whole month by the Saints is when they played the Cowboys last week-end.

Hope you are doing well {{{{Calo}}}}! I look like Jack the Ripper got a hold of me. LOL!

The average teenage girl without a father these days looks for a BAby Daddy not a father for her kids. The welfare society is ok with that. Men need to be shamed and have their characters questions. Then rebuilt like in a boot camp.

You have a point. But I think he is going after other factions of people who support obama. Just gun control period is what they want. Just like they want rainbows and butterflies too. Different group of obama voters …..the peaceniks. The aging hippies. That’s where he’ll get support.

  38. 39 | December 30, 2012 3:20 pm

    @ Mike C.:

I said he’d make gun control a priority after re-election back when he was running. I don’t think he can get anything through the House, though. I don’t think. If the Republicans sell us out on that I can’t think of any particular reason to stay with the Republican Party. There will be a split and a third party form. The mjority of Americans don’t want new gun control laws, as they are demoonstrating with their purchases. There is a very vocal minority that do want gun control laws, but I don’t think the Republicans will go there.

Oh my! The man has no shame at all!

Obama: “I’m Not Driven By Some Ideological Agenda”…

President Obama turned up on NBC’s “Meet the Press” for the first time since the passage of ObamaCare, and gave exactly the performance that every veteran Obama-watcher would have expected: a bitter, intransigent partisan claiming to be the only non-partisan, non-ideological participant in the “fiscal cliff” drama. “I’m not driven by some ideological agenda – I’m a pretty practical guy,” he explicitly stated, offering his past four years in office as evidence.

It’s too bad “Meet the Press” doesn’t have a laugh track. Obama’s interviewer, David Gregory, was willing to flagrantly violate D.C. gun laws to beat up on NRA executive Wayne LaPierre, but when President Obama takes the stage to drop insane howlers like that, America’s top outlaw journalist just sits quietly and nods. In truth, nothing about Obama’s record in office, re-election campaign, or fiscal cliff policy has been even slightly non-partisan or non-ideological. This kind of posturing gives partisanship and ideology a bad name – voters do band together into parties and vote for candidates based upon their campaign promises, after all. Whether or not either position is correct, a Republican’s ideological commitment to low taxes is no more illegitimate than Barack Obama’s stern ideological commitment to raising them.

IIRC, Venezuela has strict gun control. Remember this the next time Hugo Chavez lectures us on how barbaric the US is:

Killings skyrocketed, even though no statistical cut-off has been made yet. Based on the numbers managed at the Scientific, Criminal and Forensic Investigation Agency (Cicpc), through Monday, December 17, murders nationwide totaled 18,960. This means that every two hours five Venezuelans were slain, that is, 66 in every 100,000 inhabitants.

Last year ended at 18,850 murders. Therefore, while this year has not ended yet, it overtakes the number of 2011, at least by 110. This is true, regardless of the 21st security plan implemented by the Venezuelan government. “All Life in Venezuela” Mission entered into force last June as an umbrella plan to finish insecurity off.

Unreal. Remember that the next time anybody claims anywhere in the US is “Murder Capitol of the World”.

  46. 47 | December 30, 2012 3:40 pm

    @ Iron Fist:

YOu should note that those are more raw number killings than in America, with only a fraction of the population. 66 per 100000 is enormous. America is something like 4.1 per 100000. Even Chicago isn’t 66 per 100000.

Obama wants to go over the Cliff, and the Democrats are with him. He’s already told the Republicans that even if they sell out completely it isn’t good enough. Where the Republicans bear responsibility was in not having the balls not to raise the Debt Ceiling without substantive real cuts in the Federal budget. It shouldn’t be too hard to cut back to 2006 levels of spending, but the Democrats refuse to even consider that. They want to raise taxes and spend every new dollar they get buying votes for the next election. Why should the Republicans cooperate with that? The other place the Republicans are falling ddown is getting the message out. Obama wants to raise taxes significantly on successful small businesses. In a de facto Recession. That’ll improve the unemployment picture. Republicans should be running TV ads sayin gthat Obama wants to pyut people out of work in his class warfare. That happens to be the truth, that rare flower that neither side really respects.

Well, if Обама and the Demo☭rats on Capitol Hill can’t even see the stupidity of the Tax-The-Rich meme that the French Supreme Court nullified, then we definitely DO have a problem. It begins and ends with them.

Oh, I agree. Obama has already made it clear that there is no realistic compromise that he considers acceptible. Boehner made him a credible offer, and asked what he got for that. Obama said “Nothing. I get that for free” Obama isn’t negiotiating in good faith. He’s already made it clear that he doesn’t want a deal. He probably wouldn’t veto something in Reid and McConnell cobbled together something, but Reid doesn’t look like he’s interested in that either. He is wholly a creature of Obama’s.

I just realized -- if there’s nothing out of the Senate Obama will insist on an up-or-down vote on his original proposal -- tax hikes over $250k earners, no cuts.

That’s the set up being constructed -- the up-down on Obama’s proposal.

That’s why there’s no counter-offer and why there was never any chance there would be.

The only time that happens is usually something that is put on the net from the TV. I rarely see the actual incident on TV. But then again I watch TV rationally. I also read books too. So you could also say some books that are put out are out of touch. Everything falls under your umbrella to be honest. One needs to use discretion in the consumption one takes in concerning entertainment or news.

I have a -er, know a guy who has a couple of teenagers. And they spend more time on phones and computers. Now, that leaves a couple of problems still… misleading headlines on Yahoo, tv on Hulu is still just tv…

But it does lessen some of the MSM impact. So, (as has been said in conservative circles lately) we can make a difference in the culture at large and should start immediately.

For example, meeting Low Information Voters on the web and trying to pass ideas and stories on Facebook or other sites.

Not that I’d heard. They don’t typically use “less-lethal” weapons like that. No real need for them.

The tower guards at Bucca used them to mark prisoners who were acting up, so the entry teams could identify them.
