Everyone on this list is worthy of the honor.
But I do take civic pride that two of the honorees ,
Obama & Jackson are from Chicago. We’re number one!

While this is a worthy list there are deserving candidtes that got
shut out because their transgressions were not in this calendar
    year.
Chistopher Dodd & Barney Frank come to mind as well as most
    people named Kennedy.

Dodd at least had the good sense to not run when he saw he would be defeated and the seat would go Republican. I wish Todd Akin would have thought of that.

    1. TFK – check

    3. Heysoos – check.

We probably need to expose a GoP member badly that also indites a bunc of dems. Problem is now so much of the corruption is complex and hidden.

I am just not online as often as I used to be. Got a lot rolling around in my head and it makes me tired. I have also been trying to get a little more exercise…I try to take short walks to build up my strength. I have also been eating a lot more these days. Just got to get over the depression I have always struggled with. The depression makes my decision making harder. But I am still here and still trying to get well, at least mentally. I can honestly compare this to the stages of grief. I have the anger and the denial. Just trying to get past them is work enough. I will always stay in touch Smile

    alert alert alert alert alert
    /

White House and McConnell reach agreement on “fiscal cliff”

Details on the deal, which apparently will go to a vote in the Senate after midnight so they can say they are voting to reduce taxes, summarized at WaPo. Here are some of the points:

-Tax rates will permanently rise to Clinton-era levels for families with income above $450,000 and individuals above $400,000. all income below the threshold will permanently be taxed at Bush-era rates.

—The tax on capital gains and dividends will be permanently set at 20 percent for those with income above the $450,000/$400,000 threshold. It remain at 15 percent for everyone else.

—The estate tax will be set at 40 percent for those at the $450,000/$400,000 threshold, with a $5 million exemption. That threshold will be indexed to inflation, as a concession to Republicans and some Democrats to rural areas like Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mt.).

—The sequester will be delayed for two months. Half of the delay will be offset by discretionary cuts, spilt between defense and non-defense. The other half will be offset revenue raised by the voluntary transfer of traditional IRAs to Roth IRAs, which would tax retirement savings when they’re moved over.

—The Alternative Minimum Tax will be permanently patched to avoid raising taxes on the middle-class.

—The deal will not address the debt-ceiling, and the payroll tax holiday will be allowed to expire.

—Two limits on tax exemptions and deductions for higher-income Americans will be reimposed: Personal Exemption Phaseout (PEP) will be set at $250,000 and the itemized deduction limitation (Pease) kicks in at $300,000.

    Top Scientific Discoveries of 2012

Wired has discovery of Higgs Boson as #1 but I missed that it had been confirmed.

But I COMPLETELY missed this one and my head just exploded.

    Quantum Teleportation Distance Record Broken

Over the summer, two teams of researchers, one from China and the other from Austria, broke a world record by teleporting quantum particles more than 50 miles through the open air. This little trick involves entangling two particles, like photons, so that they both have the exact same properties. Using a third particle, the characteristics of one of these photons are beamed to a distant location, creating a remote copy.

Scientists now think they will one day be able teleport particles to a satellite in space and then beam them back to any location on Earth. Such technology could allow spies to pass unbreakable codes back and forth and might one day form the backbone of a quantum internet. China plans to test this possibility with a dedicated quantum information satellite, to be launched in 2016, while other countries are racing to make sure they don’t fall too far behind on this important technology.

    Ok, then…no more conference calls
