Turn water off to California. Raise park fees tripe to all non residents. Just stop putting maintenance into parks.
Promote washington and oregon into two new east and west states. East Rubeland and West Nerdland
Take the state where R’s are governor in the East and triple the Semi Truck fees. Slow down interstate commerce to the east coast. Savage probably knows the best way to do it. Unions do the reverse all the time.

Whether they raise taxes on “the rich” or not, we’re going to be at least $21 trillion in debt by the end of Obama’s second term. Our credit rating is going to be downgraded a couple more times, and the interest on the debt is going to consume the entire budget.
Those are absolute certainties.

Even in the roughest of circles, the mismatch of singular and plural pronouns in the same context is frowned upon and you can well imagine the confusion it engenders. It’s rumored the Hatfield-McCoy feud was started by such a colloquial mishmash of grammar.

I’m actually a bit surprised we haven’t seen an incident or three like that with Barry or Big Nappy but I’m not going to sell him short in his second term.

I don’t blame you and I wasn’t saying you should. I hope you didn’t think I was in some way or was excusing anyone who did.

Got it!
Suggestion for admin- I’d love a refresh or view new posts button at the bottom here for when I’m on my iPod.
Wisconsin lost the Rose Bowl. I feel somewhat down about this. I knew the Badgers were becoming spoiled what with this being the first time in the history of the program that WI has gone to three back-to-back Rose Bowls. My feelings are ameliorated and blunted by the previous decades of marginal football.
It’s the middle of University hockey season, though

far as i know, same as y’all

and that would be pronounced “sugah”, right?
as far as I recall, rum in New Orleans is pronounced ‘rum’

Yes ma’am!!!

Sorry. Can’t help ya there. Mention it to CW or Rodan when they’re around.

my roots are a bit southern

Missouri parent raising us in the frozen North land. Not just ice tea, but sweetened ice tea. (We didn’t know that you could drink it any other way.) Grandma taught us to make biscuits and corn bread at a tender age. Of course, we had to have black-eyed peas and other Southern vegetables. The other side of the family filled us with ethnic foods.
It was a long walk, but I was supposed to play with the boys from Mississippi and not the other guys if at all possible. (I cannot remember what States the other Southern kids at school were from.)
It was very important to know about “ya’ll” and the reasoning was “in case you have to talk to Southerns or colored folk.”
I first heard of Jeff Davis before I could read. I could not believe that we got Lincoln’s birthday off and knew it would be tough to explain at home.
And I do remember hearing that it would nice if we said “sir” and “ma’am” but I guess we were just bad kids. What can I say?

we call it “sweet tea”

I have heard that theory. I have also been told that any kind of “all” at the end makes it plural. Since those guys have been her for many generations, I am at a loss to correct them.
all y’all is the plural of y’all
Kirly wrote:
Of course we do. But, if I remember right, not everyone does. But, I haven’t been north of the Ohio River in a while, so I am not too sure.
Kirly wrote:
Uh yup. And in the South there are people who like sweet tea and those who like their tea without sugar. So it’s best to make two batchs of tea…sweet tea and plain tea.

I can tell!

And indeed you would be so correct!

That is right. So many friends that either diabetic or dieting or just trying to keep their sugar levels down these day even here in Dixieland.
At my currents haunts, the term is “un-sweet” or “un sweetened” tea. Do they say “plain tea” in New Orleans?
@ CzechRebel:
Don’t know about New Orleans…they usually just ask if you want sweet tea or plain tea. Been that way since forever. It’s just a matter of how you like your ice tea.
/I suppose now days watching ones weight or sugar level is prudent. But I grew up on plain tea yet in the same family my uncle and aunts liked sweet tea.
@ CzechRebel:
And, again, we are not seceding from the US of A.
Sign me up for plain tea tonight, as a Texan looking for all y’alls dirty laundry tonight.
F*k the un-sweet tonight.
Lily wrote:
OK, I will try asking for “plain tea” next time. I am embarrassed to say that I lost my taste for sugar years ago. Have to see what they say when put it that way.
Calo wrote:
I don’t care who secedes first. Alaska has a secession group and an Independence party. New Hampshire has its “Free State Project.” South Carolina and Alabama have some independence-minded people. I have no contacts there, but I have heard that Hawaii has a secessionist organization too.
I meant it as a complaint to pick Texas as the example. Have relatives by marriage from there. Got a free 72 ounce steak in Amarillo once. Brain freeze or no brain freeze, I like that governor.
Why a free Texas would be an insult is beyond me.
@ CzechRebel:
I guess because we are Texans, but most importantly, American citizens, first and foremost.
CzechRebel wrote:
Yeah, they didn’t exactly vote to come aboard. Basically we annexed the place.
heh. Remember the Journal News was going to double down and publish names/addresses of gun permit holders in Putnam County.
Well, no, they’re not. Because Putnam County just said NO

OK, if you say so. I think of that an old file film on the Vietnam War. The guy has some sort of piece of equipment working on the airfield. The piece of equipment has two little flags on the back, on is the flag of Texas and other is the Confederate flag.
What is that cartoon? King of the Hill? The wife is Peggy Hill or Penny Hill or whatever but she refers to herself as “a citizen of Texas.” What is the guys name? Hank Hill? Henry Hill? He tells his kid Bobby that “During WW II, grandpa was fighting for the freedom of Texas.”
My new relatives from Texas tell me that Texas and ONLY Texas has the right to tell fly the Texas flag on the top of the Stars and Stripes. I am not sure if it is true, but they sure like telling people that.
I once had a doctor from “the Republic” operate on me. He recommenced a book called the “Lone Star People.” He told me that the Texans were Texans first and Americans . . . well, Americans when ever.
No disrespect, but I am just not too familiar with the concept of being a Texan being second to anything else.
@ CzechRebel:
No, it’s not.
@ CzechRebel:
Well, I guess I am just an idjot who talks to hundreds (yes, you read that right) of Texans every week.
But, never have I seen any Texan fly our State Flag above the US of A flag.
Crap, could be the result of living in the 4th populated city in the US.
After all, we are just a bunch of hicks ready to thumb our nose at you precious, South Carolina friends.
