Essential VDH: Welcome to Very Scary Times

Go thou and read thereof. He picks up on what I’ve been noticing, that the Democrats’ contempt for the Constitution is coming out into the open. That op-ed piece in the NYT is quite telling. That isn’t a fringe lunatic, but a “respected” member of the Liberal Academic Elite. When he speaks, he is giving the Party Line for the whole Left-wing movement. Scary times indeed:

The third item in my year-end reading was the most disturbing. A law professor (could it be otherwise?) named Louis Michael Seidman enlightens us with “Let’s Give Up on the Constitution” — yet another vision of what the now triumphant liberal mind envisions for us all:

As the nation teeters at the edge of fiscal chaos, observers are reaching the conclusion that the American system of government is broken. But almost no one blames the culprit: our insistence on obedience to the Constitution, with all its archaic, idiosyncratic and downright evil provisions.

Did Madison force Obama to borrow a half-billion dollars to fund Solyndra and its multimillionaire con artists?

Note Seidman’s use of “evil,” which tips his hand that our great moralist is on an ethical crusade to change the lives of lesser folk, who had the misfortune of growing up in America — a place so much less prosperous, fair, and secure than, say, Russia, China, the Middle East, Africa, South America, Spain, Greece, Italy, or Japan and Germany (in the earlier 20th century history) . When I lived in Greece, traveled to Libya, and went into Mexico, I forgot to sigh, “My God, these utopias are possible for us too, if we just junked that evil Constitution.”

As always, read the whole thing. VDH provides a clear, rational voice in the Wilderness.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!

This is threadworthy in its own right.

    @ Flyovercountry:

I didn’t really have time to write it up as its own thread, but I did want to bring it ot everybody’s attention. This is VDH at his best. He is right. 2013 is going to be a very scary year. I am worried that the Republican in the House won’ thold true on gun control. If they don’t, it’ll destroy the Republican Party, but I don’t think these guys mind being in the minority as long as they get the invitations to all the right parties in Georgetown.

    @ Iron Fist:
We don’t really have a second party anymore. We are now two parties in name only.

    @ Iron Fist:

    Nice post, IF.

Thanks for your kind words on the overnight thread; hope you saw all of the response. Same-sex marriage is, or should be, a tiny sideshow politically speaking. The very fact that it has been ramped up to a huge issue is an indication that it is a stalking horse for much larger game.

    @ Da_Beerfreak:

I know. The Republicans don’t seem to stand for very much. When they won in 1994 I was very hopeful for a little while, but the Republicans proved to be a weak reed. Within ten years they were spending like Democrats, and they never repealed the Assault Weapons band or in any other way lessened the onerous restrictions on guns that exist. The truth is that our Second Amendment right is the most regulated right that we have, and the Dems plan on regulating it out of existance. But if the Republicans roll over on the Second Amendment, there isn’t much point in voting for Republicans, either. We’ll nbeed a new Party. I’ve read that 32% of the Republican Party are the Liberal wing, but they are the ones that control the Leadership, such as it is, and they don’t want to be the majority party if it means making the 68% of the Party that is conservative happy.

    @ buzzsawmonkey:

True. If gays really just wanted to get married, then they would actually be gettin gmarried. Nothing stops them from having a comittment ceremony and making a lifetime comittment to a monogamous relationship with their significant other. There are legal remedys for all of the things that a marriage brings. Sure, it is some more work, but if it were really important to them, they’d be doing the extra work and having their marriage. If they were doing that then someday same-sex marriage would probably be recognized in America, but it wouldn’t be a threat to heterosexual marriage. The gays aren’t doing that. You are absolutely right. This is thier play to get rid of the First and Tenth Amendments. The Left want to really do away with the entire Constitution, and this professor that VDH references states clearly.

    @ Iron Fist:

The communist origins of the gay-rights movement, and its hostility towards the larger society, cannot be reiterated too often.
