Last night, NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre gave the keynote speech at the 2013 Western Hunting & Conservation Expo in Salt Lake City, in which he discussed the real purpose behind so-called “universal background checks” for gun sales. It was an excellent speech in front of a packed house of Second Amendment supporters, none of whom appeared to be drooling or even crazed.
To watch the video, which is about 19 minutes long, follow this link.

“This is the strongest, best nation on the planet — because our Constitution and our Bill of Rights imparts the greatest freedom on earth. We, all of us, standing here right now will stand together and fight and, by God together, we will prevail in defending our freedoms!”
Update: For those planning to attend the NRA Annual Meeting in Houston, tickets are on sale now for some of the events, including the Friday afternoon Stand and Fight Leadership Forum and Saturday evening’s Stand and Fight Rally. These events will probably sell out, so it’s a good idea to purchase tickets now.

One bit of good news:
I parted ways with the NRA when they supported Harry Reid. (Hey, what good are rights in a destroyed nation ?) I am tempted to reconsider but we all know where temptation leads… No I want all my rights not just this one.

All Beretta has to do is select some office space on the south side of the Potomac.
Oh, and “universal” background checks simply cannot work without “universal” registration. This isn’t rocket science…

I’m fairly certain that we won’t see much of anything come out of Congress on guns in the near future. Their new tactic seems to be ramming all sorts of crap through at the state level.
It came out last week, for example, that Biden called most of the Dem legislators here in Colorado and promised them all kinds of goodies if they voted to pass the garbage they wanted. I’m sure the same thing is happening all over.
When the dust settles, we’re going to see half the states with relatively free ownership of guns, and half with California/New Jersey/Illinois-style laws.
Once that happens, Congress will step in and proclaim that we can’t have that sort of patchwork of laws, so they’ll try to make them uniformly bad.
Well, apparently the IL legislature had their legal exoerts clue them in on what would happen if they missed that 7th circuit deadline, namely that the would have no laws concealed carry. So despite their chest-beating the other day, they’ve decided they better try and come up with something.

Yes, there’s a correlation between crime and low incomes, but one doesn’t necessarily cause the other.
Raising the minimum wage certainly isn’t going to create job opportunities for illiterate high school dropouts. If anything, it will decrease them.
If someone’s not qualified for a job that pays $7.25 an hour, raising it to $9.00 an hour doesn’t improve their qualifications.

Notice that all those groups are tied to labor unions. Why? Becaue most union contracts are tied to the minimum wage. If it goes up, their members get an automatic raise, as well.

well a story I like to tell is some years back I got robbed at gunpoint (yes he was black) in broad daylight … I positively identified the guy from his prior mugshots (hey he was arrested 4 times already for armed robbery at the age of 24, but never did any time) he was shot dead (by a cousin) in drug deal gone bad 2 days later in the housing project where he resided at taxpayer expense.
It is difficult for me to take any of this seriously I mean wtf? he still has 3 children with 3 mothers all living on welfare that I pay for with my tax dollars.

Except we’ll be taxed even more to provide more ‘upscale’ housing. Or they’ll integrate middle class neighborhoods with taxpayer funded housing for the poor, driving the value of those neighborhoods down.
I’m fine with helping those who are unable to provide for themselves, but those who are unwilling to do so need to learn some responsibility.
Fat chance of that happening with the left in the driver’s seat.
