Wayne LaPierre: “For God’s sake, leave the good and honest, decent law-abiding people all over this country alone!”

Filed under Breaking News, Headlines, Second Amendment at February 24th, 2013 - 4:27 pm

Last night, NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre gave the keynote speech at the 2013 Western Hunting & Conservation Expo in Salt Lake City, in which he discussed the real purpose behind so-called “universal background checks” for gun sales. It was an excellent speech in front of a packed house of Second Amendment supporters, none of whom appeared to be drooling or even crazed.

To watch the video, which is about 19 minutes long, follow this link.

For a transcript of the speech in PDF format, go here.

“This is the strongest, best nation on the planet — because our Constitution and our Bill of Rights imparts the greatest freedom on earth. We, all of us, standing here right now will stand together and fight and, by God together, we will prevail in defending our freedoms!”

Update: For those planning to attend the NRA Annual Meeting in Houston, tickets are on sale now for some of the events, including the Friday afternoon Stand and Fight Leadership Forum and Saturday evening’s Stand and Fight Rally. These events will probably sell out, so it’s a good idea to purchase tickets now.

    One bit of good news:

Coburn: Any proposal that keeps a record of legit gun owners will ‘kill’ Senate bill

Oklahoma Republican Sen. Tom Coburn said Sunday any Senate legislation on gun control that includes a national registry of firearms owners will be a deal breaker.

Coburn is part of the bipartisan Senate panel seeking ways to curb gun violence and that purportedly is about to agree on a proposal to expand background checks to most private gun sales, with national record-keeping still unresolved.

“There absolutely will not be record-keeping of legitimate gun owners,” Coburn told “Fox News Sunday.” “That will kill this bill.”

The potential deal on background checks was reported Saturday by The Washington Post.

“I don’t think we’re that close,” Coburn also said.

I parted ways with the NRA when they supported Harry Reid. (Hey, what good are rights in a destroyed nation ?) I am tempted to reconsider but we all know where temptation leads… No I want all my rights not just this one.

All Beretta has to do is select some office space on the south side of the Potomac.

Oh, and “universal” background checks simply cannot work without “universal” registration. This isn’t rocket science…

I’m fairly certain that we won’t see much of anything come out of Congress on guns in the near future. Their new tactic seems to be ramming all sorts of crap through at the state level.

It came out last week, for example, that Biden called most of the Dem legislators here in Colorado and promised them all kinds of goodies if they voted to pass the garbage they wanted. I’m sure the same thing is happening all over.

When the dust settles, we’re going to see half the states with relatively free ownership of guns, and half with California/New Jersey/Illinois-style laws.

Once that happens, Congress will step in and proclaim that we can’t have that sort of patchwork of laws, so they’ll try to make them uniformly bad.

Obama-Tied Think Tank’s Ingenious Plan To Quell Chicago’s Gun Violence: Raise The Minimum Wage…

President Obama’s favorite think tank, the Center for American Progress, has a new ingenious plan to lower gun deaths in Chicago: raise the minimum wage. CAP’s Think Progress blog highlights a new Stand Up! Chicago report which found:

Decades of research have demonstrated that there is a statistically significant link between low wages, income inequality and crime. Researchers have found that the majority of increases in violent crime can be explained by downward wage trends, and The National Bureau of Economic Research reports that a twenty percent drop in wages leads to a 12 to 18 percent increase in youth crime. Other analysis shows that a 1 percent point increase in the Gini index (a measure of wealth inequality) produces, on average, a 3.6 percent increase in the homicide rates for a population. [...]

It may be possible to help reduce gun violence in Chicago — a city that saw over 500 homicides last year — in one simple step: Raising the minimum wage.

Well, apparently the IL legislature had their legal exoerts clue them in on what would happen if they missed that 7th circuit deadline, namely that the would have no laws concealed carry. So despite their chest-beating the other day, they’ve decided they better try and come up with something.

    Follow the money.

In 2011, various labor unions donated more than $1.13 million to PN and its state partner networks. Significant union support came from the Service Employees International Union, the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers, the AFL-CIO, AFSCME, and UNITE HERE! Other key donors to PN include Color of Change, Common Cause, the Bauman Family Foundation, the Educational Foundation of America, the Energy Foundation, the Foundation to Promote Open Society (created by George Soros), and the Tides Foundation.

    @ lobo91:

Whatever genius authored this “study” must have failed Statistics 101.

Yes, there’s a correlation between crime and low incomes, but one doesn’t necessarily cause the other.

Raising the minimum wage certainly isn’t going to create job opportunities for illiterate high school dropouts. If anything, it will decrease them.

If someone’s not qualified for a job that pays $7.25 an hour, raising it to $9.00 an hour doesn’t improve their qualifications.

well a story I like to tell is some years back I got robbed at gunpoint (yes he was black) in broad daylight … I positively identified the guy from his prior mugshots (hey he was arrested 4 times already for armed robbery at the age of 24, but never did any time) he was shot dead (by a cousin) in drug deal gone bad 2 days later in the housing project where he resided at taxpayer expense.

It is difficult for me to take any of this seriously I mean wtf? he still has 3 children with 3 mothers all living on welfare that I pay for with my tax dollars.

Except we’ll be taxed even more to provide more ‘upscale’ housing. Or they’ll integrate middle class neighborhoods with taxpayer funded housing for the poor, driving the value of those neighborhoods down.

I’m fine with helping those who are unable to provide for themselves, but those who are unwilling to do so need to learn some responsibility.

Fat chance of that happening with the left in the driver’s seat.

I was discussing this with a GF last night… yes, there will be riots. The grocery store will be looted… but this can only happen once. The store will not be replenished., it’s over.

I love NYC is spite of you…rather than pay attention to your stupid nanny rules I just look at the buildings, the water and bridges…tourist stuff…if you’re a tourist, you’re never guilty…you live there so that’s your problem..I come home to NM and everybody behaves with propriety, and a Glock strapped to their thigh…nice and peaceful

    @ heysoos:

Mixed feelings. If they just butcher each other, I’m fine with it. When they start attacking anyone else, there’s a problem.

yes, agreed….but it’s not our problem…people die by the boatload in the ME…not sure what the US can do about it..I say, let em die

the fact that the US has no, and has never had a policy or plan to rid ourselves of this murderous ME Islamic culture…one might be led to think that relations with the KSA and others benefits us somehow…convince me

if you live off the feds you cannot vote….reasonable people understand this..you can be a racial minority, sit on your ass and collect enough dough to prevent you from dying, other than that you are a cow, and everybody knows cows can’t vote

I’ve seen the beach Boys several times across the years….laugh all you want, no they are not the Stones or Cream, but they delivered…they have a great body of music and can put it out there live…no blazing riffs, no instrumental wizardry, just good plain rock and roll…I may be all about Skip James and the revolving Delta guys, but the Beach Boys were something, what, I do not know…but they kicked ass in their day
