We don’t get that much traffic on 1389 Blog on Saturdays, either. People are sleeping, running errands, doing chores, eating, who knows what.

We watched the movie “The Master” last nitght,
with Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman &
    Amy Adams.
Pretty good cast, so I thought that it might be good.
    Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!
The thing had no point & dialogue was annoying.
If it was a choice betwen watching that thing again
or a water boarding , it would be a jump ball.

    speaking of zombies:

As the prospect of an emergency manager moved closer to reality, members of the Detroit City Council spent Friday selling the idea that an expanded consent agreement is workable for the cash-strapped city.

“They say we don’t have a plan,” council President Charles Pugh said Friday. “We do have a plan. Our plan is better now.”

City leaders have 10 days to appeal the governor’s decision declaring Detroit is in a state of financial emergency. Some council members said they will forge ahead on an expanded consent agreement with detailed milestones that they believe would allow the city to regain financial stability on its own.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Sixty-seven-year-old Charles Sherd has lived in his home on Cantrell Street in South Philadelphia for more than 35 years.

He was surprised when he opened a letter from the city.
For years, his home has been consistently valued at $12,000, but after a city-wide reassessment, it’s now valued at $116,700.

I was kind of worried about squestering. But after the fact it seems like it would be a good opportunity for a progressive state to tell the feds to go to hell. Do it through the states and ask for Fed concessions. That is the type of argument we need in the country.

“These cuts are not smart,” Obama said.

“They will hurt our economy and cost us jobs. And Congress can turn them off at any time — as soon as both sides are willing to compromise.”

Obama Pardons Man Convicted Of Gun Charges… Confusion Ensues…

President Obama issued his first series of presidential pardons today, including one for a man who was convicted of possession of an unregistered firearm.

Larry Wayne Thornton of Forsyth, Ga., was sentenced to four years of probation for “possession of an unregistered firearm” and “possession of a firearm without a serial number.” He is one of 17 people pardoned today.

The pardon comes as Obama is emphasizing, as part of his gun control push, the need to know who is buying weapons.

“If you want to buy a gun — whether it’s from a licensed dealer or a private seller — you should at least have to show you are not a felon or somebody legally prohibited from buying one,” Obama said in January, adding that “We should get tougher on people who buy guns with the express purpose of turning around and selling them to criminals. And we should severely punish anybody who helps them do this.”

The student grappled the gun away from the 15-year-old suspect on the bus ride home Tuesday after witnesses say he aimed the weapon point blank at another student and threatened to shoot him.

    @ Lily:
Maybe I should have said something. It was very disturbing.

yes, you should have…a guy with two dogs lived directly behind he on the next street…he beat his dogs, held them and beat them…broke my heart, since they were friendly and they’d come check me out from their yard…one day the guy went overboard and I hopped the fence went up to him and told him that if I ever see him beat either dog again for any reason, I’m coming over and do the same to him but worse…he had nothing to say…later I thought maybe I should have throttled him and make him apologize to his pets…I just can’t put up with shit

    @ Moe Katz:

Do it! Apparently he doesn’t care how he treats the dog in public…

Maybe he figures he gets a free pass because he’s got a disability? To some extent he probably does.

    @ Moe Katz:

Nope …my oldest son is disabled and he doesn’t treat animals or people poorly. That would be an excuse to act poorly in my opinion. He may be depressed because he is disabled ….but that doesn’t give him the right to hurt other creatures or people.

    @ heysoos:
…that was 25 yrs ago…I have never been able to be witness children in fear or pain or the elderly or people that can’t defend themselves…those types…nothing lights my fuse quicker and I’ve stuck my face where it doesn’t belong and make it my business…even on a blog, I hate to see people piled on for no good reason

    @ heysoos:

Well most people who witness such things will at least say something if they are not in fear themselves or in shock at what they are seeing.
