Andrew McCarthy: Obama’s Gay Rights double standard on Russia

As Russia continues to re-embrace its Christian Orthodox heritage and Capitalism, the Left is using Gay Rights as a proxy to demonize them. Personally as a Libertarian, I don’t agree with Russia’s gay laws. I give the Putin Regime props on their economic/fiscal policies but a thumbs down on personal liberty. But that is an internal matter for the Russian people and not my concern.

Obama  is now engaged now on a Gay Rights crusade against Russia that is leading to Cold war level hate.. Meanwhile he says nothing about Gays being killed in Islamic countries.

What,” Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani was asked, “is [Islam’s] judgment on sodomy and lesbianism?”

“Forbidden,” he curtly pronounced. “Those involved in the act should be punished. In fact, sodomites should be killed in the worst manner possible.”

So what does Barack Obama have to say about that?

Cynically mounting his high horse last week in the cozy confines of Jay Leno’s late-night TV comedy program — a venue popular with his ill-informed admirers, one where hypocrisy won’t be noticed, much less challenged — the president declaimed, “I have no patience for countries that try to treat gays or lesbians or transgender persons in ways that intimidate or are harmful to them.”

This was his purported human-rights rationale for canceling a summit meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin, who in June signed an anti-gay law banning “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations.” Obama told Leno that “making sure people are treated fairly and justly” is a “precept that’s not unique to America” and “should apply everywhere.”

Does the president truly mean what he said? Or was he just pandering to dreamy millennials and the Hollywood glitterati, who are too uninformed or in the tank to mark the chasm between his righteous finger-wagging at Putin and his kowtowing to Islamic leaders? The answers depend on whether he finally condemns sharia’s oppressive and often brutal strictures against homosexuality, which are zealously enforced in most Muslim countries.

Russia is Christian and Capitalist, hence why Obama despises them. Since that nation has turned its back on Marxism, Obama has a vendetta against the Russian people. Meanwhile, he supports organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood that kills gays.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!

Everyone is ooing and ahhing the Nick Symonds, attending the World Track and Field Meet in Moscow, “dedicated” his silver medals to the gays. Oh how brave! Oh how classy!

Really? He went to the event. He won a medal. Call me when he makes a statement that actually involves sacrifice, like boycotting the games to make a stand.

Why is he so bitchy about Russia’s law about homosexuality (which will, in fact, get you a fine, at most), while he lets Muslims’ MURDER of homosexuals go unnoticed?

The early post-Stonewall gay-rights movement was vocally pro-Cuba, even though Castro was imprisoning and killing homosexuals. The movement in its current incarnation includes “Queers for Palestine,” despite the fact that most “Palestinian” homosexuals prefer to be illegal aliens in Israel than remain under the control of the Palestinian Authority or Hamas, where they risk torture and death.

In short, the gay-rights movement is not “pro-gay,” but anti-Western—and as Russia becomes more and more Western, it is attacked while openly communist, or anti-Western regimes such as those which are Islamist, are celebrated—regardless of how they treat homosexuals.

There are bigger issues with Muslim countries that he needs to fight. Maybe its a case of picking his battles.
