Guest Post, from Dorian:

Smoking hot nerd of the Month: Jeri Ellsworth

Jeri Ellsworth (born 1974) is an US entrepreneur and autodidact computer chip designer and inventor. Currently the president of Technical Illusions, she became known in 2004 for creating a complete Commodore 64 system on a chip within a joystick, called C64 Direct-to-TV. That “computer in a joystick” could run 30 video games from the early 1980s, and was a very popular Christmas gift, at peak selling over 70,000 units in a single day via the QVC shopping channel.[1] Ellsworth currently lives in Sea

Ok, Jeri is smoking hot, and stone cold brilliant. She’s a high school drop out who taught herself electronics and programming. Best of all, she makes youtube video’s where she does stuff that ordinary people just are not suppose to be able to do. Yes, makes integrated circuits in her kitchen. No seriously, makes integrated circuits in her freaking kitchen.

I’m not smart like Jeri, though I wish I was.

A) She’s beautiful, B) she’s brilliant, C) she’s brilliant, and D), did I mention she’s brilliant?

Ok, Jeri has her own youtube channel, you can watch any of her 400 plus video’s. They’re are both amazing and inspiring.

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=jeri+ellsworth+channel

EDIT: Just as an non sequitur, I would ask Jeri to marry me, but damn it, she’s obviously way to damned smart for me… <— Yes this is me weeping at the though of her rejecting of me…

free trade? i think not. as usual, america gets the shaft

The steel industry was expected to benefit greatly from the domestic boom in oil and gas drilling. But the anticipated windfall from supplying drilling companies with tubular steel for oil and gas pipelines is being undermined by a flood of cheap imports. American steelmakers have blamed foreign dumping for causing a severe oversupply and depressing prices.

Steel imports are at record levels — 28 percent of the United States market in May — and are largely to blame for one of the industry’s worst crises in a decade. It comes at a time that steel is facing increased competition from aluminum in the auto industry.

Nearly 600,000 American jobs, including 35,300 in Pennsylvania, could be at risk from surging imports, according to a recent study by the Economic Policy Institute, a Washington think tank that focuses on the needs of low- and middle-income workers.Charles Putz Jr., a utility technician, and Allyson Wright, a crane operator, are among 175 workers at U.S. Steel’s McKeesport plant who will be out of work next month.

“Many say they just want a job to take care of their family,” said Putz, 44, of McKeesport. Most want to get back into U.S. Steel, but promises of openings at its plants in West Mifflin and Clairton can’t be counted on, he said.

The truth, says Wright, 27, of Pleasant Hills, a two-year employee, “is Korea and others are undercutting what we’re making here. It’s all dependent on the government, and there will be a domino effect with other plants.”

Other countries, mainly in Asia, backed by aggressive government support, continued to add production capacity as demand stagnated during the Great Depression, according to the study by the Economic Policy Institute. The United States has become the dumping ground for the excess.

Steelmakers have called for new import penalties and have filed the highest number of trade complaints in more than a decade. According to the U.S. Trade Representative, there are 40 anti-dumping and injury cases pending on steel products.

A final decision expected Friday by the Department of Commerce on imports of oil country products from South Korea and eight other countries won’t save the steel jobs in McKeesport, but it could change what happens to Dura-Bond’s 75 workers, said Norris, vice president of operations.

An estimated 4,184 workers in eight states lost their jobs to the import surge since the beginning of 2012. Nearly 1,000 steel jobs have been lost in the first three months of 2014, the Economic Policy Institute study said.

U.S. Steel Corp., working to cut costs and restructure after five years of annual losses, feels especially hard hit…

The case against South Korea and other nations came when imports surged to 1.76 million tons in 2013 from 840,313 tons in 2010, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute, the industry’s trade association. South Korea alone shipped 894,300 tons to the United States in 2013.

“We created 75 jobs in Duquesne because of the demand, but nobody expected this to happen,” Dura-Bond’s Norris said. “I don’t understand how this country allows so many manufacturing jobs to be destroyed. Who ever thought U.S. Steel would be out of the line-pipe business — in the middle of the Marcellus and Utica shale?”

it ceases to be competition when there are govt subsidies, especially at the level of south korea. this is a direct violation of trade agreements, but america are suckers, so we lose, again.

i thought the dems were for the little guy, obama?

    @ coldwarrior:

I’ve never been an advocate of “free trade”. There are too many ways for foreign countries to gimmick the deal, and no real incentives for them not to. I think, rather, to have fair trade, but that means if the prospective country has subsidies that cut their prices they have tarrifs that bring them back up to what the market price in the United States is at. Likewise, our companies have a vast plethora of environmental regulations that they have to comply with bringing their prices up. Foreign companies do not have that, an unfair advantage when it comes to the bottom line. Also, tarrifs were really supposed to be the taxes that kept what Federal government we had afloat. Instead, we have gotten rid of the tarrifs and gone instead to the “progressive’ income tax. A tax that in many ways converts most of us into indentured servants of the State. We have to make the money to pay off the Federal government first, before we can put a dime in our own pockets. This is neither fair nor just. When the big debate over NAFTA was occurring, I was taking a course on the politics of China and Japan. The instructor was Taiwanese. He said that it really wasn’t his place to tell Americans how to run their country, but if he were American he’d be against it. I agreed with that. NAFTA hasn’t really done what it was promised it would do. One of the supposed benefits of NAFTA was going to be that it created jobs in Mexico so that people would quit jumping the border. How’d that work out?

we are suckers. we let countries walk all over us on this trade stuff. it costs jobs and forces production overseas.

on a level playing-field the american worker kicks ass and is far more productive than anyone elese inthe world.

Exactly. It is getting the level playing field that is the thing. Places like China don’t have OSHA to worry about, let alone separate bathrooms for transgendered left-handed wrench-turners and all the other nonsense that American companies have to comply with. I don’t object to imports if they are done correctly. I like being able to buy a Glock that was made in Austria, or an AK 47 that was made in Bulgaria (currently Bulgaria is turning out the nicest AK 47s ever manufactured. They are even nicer than the Polytech Legend series weapons, which were manufactured specifically to be a higher end weapon for American civilians). But these companies are able to have drop-dead prices because they don’t have to spend as much just to be at the baseline of manufacturing that we do here. I don’t advocate getting rid of OSHA, though maybe curtailing some of its most restrictive requirements would pose no threat to human life. I’ve worked construction, and people will do crazy unsafe things if you give them the opportunity (you should see iron workers climbing around on steel that is high up in the air. Crazy shit). But if we have to comply with these laws it is not fair trade if we are going against nations which do not.

even with all but the goofiest regs, the american worker is far far more productive than anyone else. i’ll need to dig up the nuimbers but IIRC, 26x more productive than chinese, 10x more productive than euros.

fact is we cant win if say, he govt of korea is giving billions to one or wo huge steel mills to turn out pipe to dump in america. there is no way in a normal world that korean pipe is cheaper than pipe made in western pa that is to be used right here…transportation costs should make american pipe a no brainer.

we ALLOW this to happen and for the life of me i cant figure out why.

    I hope this is accurate:

TThe Supreme Court led by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. showed again this year that it is playing a long game, writing opinions that move the law in small but steady steps in a conservative direction.

At first glance, many of its decisions appear modest, and the justices themselves downplayed them as narrow and tightly targeted. But they also set the stage for broader rulings, and liberals voiced concern about their long-term impact.

Many rely on well-established rights, such as freedom of speech and free exercise of religion, but extend those rights for the first time to corporations, wealthy donors and conservatives who bristle at what they view as liberal government mandates, from paying union fees to offering birth control to female workers.

Related story: Supreme Court OKs another religious birth control exemption
    David G. Savage
Four of the most significant rulings — on campaign finance, public prayer, religious freedom and union fees — yielded the same 5-4 split. They pitted the Republican appointees, Roberts and Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, Anthony M. Kennedy and Samuel A. Alito Jr., against the dissenting Democratic appointees, Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.

Not all of the rulings were conservative. Roberts spoke for a unanimous court in extending the right to personal privacy to smartphones, and he joined the majority in two rulings that upheld the Obama administration’s environmental regulations limiting air pollution and greenhouse gases.

But on the big issues where justices were divided, Roberts and the conservatives usually held sway.

As they say, read the whole thing. They go into detail about the Courts more “controversial” decisions of the last few terms. They don’t mention Heller or McDonald, arguably the most two important decisions of the Roberts’ Court to date. I want this to be true. I want them to be laying the groundwork for even more expanded decisions in the future. I was severely disappointed in Roberts for his ObamaCare decision, but he hasn’t apparently gone full Souter on us. That, at least, is somewhat comforting. Roberts’, Alito, Thomas, and Scalia are likely to be on the court for many more years, and Kennedy has said he won’t step down until there is a Republican President to replace him (much as Sandra Day O’Connor did). It is a narrowly divided Court, but we get something of the decisions out of it that we want, if more limited than we’d really hope for.

The only thing I can figure is if it is the same thing as importing cheap illegal labor. The big businesses support it because it helps maximize their bottom line. What is it to a drilling company if they buy South Korean pipe that the South Korean government subsidizes? It is corporate welfare, really, being paid for by the people of South Korea. If you take it as a broader market, though, and think about maximizing the share of the wealth that the United States produces as a whole, it can be seen that it is pernicious to permit this to happen. I see no evidence that corporate America thinks long-term about much of anything. They think about the next couple of quarters and what will maximize the bottom line over that time span, rather than thinking of the broader market and the fact that the more prosperous the United States is as a whole, the more prosperous they will be as a company. But what do I know? I’ve got a poli-sci degree and a computer degree. I’m not an MBA or economist.

Oh, I should tell you that the swelling is down in my right foot, but the left is still swollen. I have to get into the doctor’s at 8:00 tomorrow morning. She wants to check me out, and has told me to not take the Phentermine today. I don’t know if this is a reaction to the meds or not. My doctor (nurse-practitioner, really) is concerned about my kidneys. SO I go get checked out. If it were just the neuropathy hurting worse, I could deal with the pain over the short term, but if it is going to cause my feet and lower legs to swell I have to come off of it.

I don’t think that there can be any doubt about that. Look at the Keystone pipeline. How many blue-ribbon panels does Obama need to tell him there is no negative environmental impact for it for him to pull the trigger and let it run? He’s been told that, what, three or four times now? Every time one of his panels come back and says it is good to go, he calls for more investigation. If he ever got one to say it was negative, well, then the “science would be settled”. It is clear to anybody paying attention that Obama just doesn’t want the pipeline built. He is just looking for some political cover with the Unions, since they are going to be mightily pissed about Obama pissing away all of those jobs. You can also see that in his “stimulus”. That was just a raid on the treasury for his big doners. If Obama were serious about his “environmentalism” (as opposed to using that for a club to punish the American economy), he’d have made a huge push to nuclearize the American power grid. That is what all of these “greens” would be calling for if they really believed the global warming shit. Thing of the hundreds of thousands of jobs that would have created for years. Long-term work in the construction of the plants themselves, and long-term employment for the operators once the plants came on line. If you are going to try a Keynesian “stimulus”, make sure you get something in return for that money. All Obama did was make some of his rich cronies richer.

    Wait, WHAT??

US company signs billion-dollar energy deal with Iran

US company World Eco Energy has signed a preliminary agreement to invest $1.175 billion to generate electricity in Iran. The plan is to turn solid waste into power.

Representatives from the American company and the Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province Governor General, Malek-Mohammad Qorbanpour, signed the deal, the Tehran Times reported. It is expected the project will create 650 immediate jobs, with another 2,000 emerging over the next two to three years, Oorbanpour told the IRNA news agency. Local companies will also be investing the same amount of money into the project.

The Governor General went on to add that 80 percent of the workforce will be employed locally, while World Eco Energy will provide machinery, equipment and technical expertise.

    I thought this is illegal

Interesting. It may be because the Unions are so strongly for Keystone. They look at tall of the union jobs that would create, so it is no wonder they are pissed at Obama for spiking it. Keystone really was a no-brainer project. We should have started on it years ago. I’ve heard that another factor in killing it is Warren Buffet. Apparently Berkshire-Hathaway makes good money trucking that oil to refineries, and the pipeline will ct into that rather dramatically. So there’s a lot of Democrat money pushing to kill it.

Just more damage that the Obamessiah has done to American foreign policy. I think we can take “judicial notice” of the fact that it is Obama Administration policy to let Iran develop nuclear weapons.

I couldn’t walk 1000 yards, let alone the 5-6 miles I run (on the elliptical) regularly now. I could go on. I was on the swift train to premature death, and now I am not. It wouldn’t particularly surprise me to live into my 90s with the advances in healthcare and the longevity on my mother’s side of the family. Could I be still better? Certainly. I had made it my goal last year to be in the best shape of my life when I turned 35, and I did not come close to making that. I guess it was an unrealistic goal to begin with. I did make it to my 4th degree black belt this year, and I’ll stack the guy who promoted me up against any one in the arts as far as quality goes. Well-heeled West Villagers will be in for a rude surprise when they open the latest copy of their local newspaper and see the headline, “The N—-r in the White House” — except without the dashes.

The shocking headline in the WestView News is a reference to President Obama and sits at the top of Page 15 above an opinion piece that criticizes what it calls the anti-black “racism” of far-right voters.

The convoluted screed by author and journalist James Lincoln Collier is actually a pro-Obama piece — but that didn’t stop West Villagers from decrying the printing of the slur.

Notice how they’ll come right out and say things like this, ostensibly to attack their political enemies to whom they attribute these beliefs. It is a classic straw man attack, with an undercurrent of real racial animus to the person or group that they profess to be defending. They do the same thing with homosexuals and women. But they get away with it. The people that they are slurring do not object when it is the right people doing the slurring.

The piece itself seems to be another of those “Obama is actually a conservative Republican in disguise, so Tea Party types should quit complaining” deals:

Ironically, Obama has never strongly pushed for the strong social programs liberals expected of him. He has, indeed, been quite passive in his approach to governing. Conservatives out therefore to have recognized that, for a Democrat, Obama was about as good as they would get.

Yeah, the Left feels that they’re entitled to be offensive. They can do or say anything, and it is OK. Because they support progressive policies. And for the most part they get away with it. Look at Bill Clinton. He supported abortion, so he wAs free to sexually harass, or even assault them, and the “feminists” supported him in it. It shows how seriously they really take such things. It is like with the “rape culture” bullahit. They don’t really give a rats ass about rape (look at what that Dem said in Colorado on rape and self-defense). They only use it as a bludgeon to beat the culture into a PC shape that they approve of. If “feminists” really gave a shit about rape they’d be pushing women to get carry permits and carry guns. If 25% of the women out there carried a gun, it’d put a real crimp it potential rapists plans. If they stand a good chance of bring killed by the victim, some of these guys will find some self-control. But the “feminists” want women disarmed. They think pissing on yourself should be the only option that a woman has to defend herself.

  78. 79 | July 6, 2014 2:58 pm

    This sounds correct to me:

A top United States general in charge of protecting the southern border says he’s been unable to combat the steady flow of illegal drugs, weapons and people from Central America, and is looking to Congress for urgent help.

Marine Corps Gen. John Kelly, commander of U.S. Southern Command, has asked Congress this year for more money, drones and ships for his mission – a request unlikely to be met. Since October, an influx of nearly 100,000 migrants has made the dangerous journey north from Latin America to the United States border. Most are children, and three-quarters of the unaccompanied minors have traveled thousands of miles from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

“In comparison to other global threats, the near collapse of societies in the hemisphere with the associated drug and [undocumented immigrant] flow are frequently viewed to be of low importance,” Kelly told Defense One. “Many argue these threats are not existential and do not challenge our national security. I disagree.”

We do not face military conquest by another nation anywhere in the world. Neither China, nor Russia, even if they teamed up together, could launch anything like a successful invasion of the American homeland. They simply do not have the men, equipment, or infrastructure to present that kind of threat against us. In one real sense, we are thus almost invulnerable. True, Russia or China could nuke our cities. I am not saying that they are no threat at all, and they might could launch an invasion of, say Eastern Europe (in the case of Russia; China could maybe invade the Philippines or Malaysia), acting contrary to the national interests of the United States, and certainly there is reasonable apprehension that the Iranians will get nuclear weapons, but an actual invasion by a military power is simply not feasible, nor will it be feasible in the foreseeable future. But the collapse of our borders brings its own threats to the country that, while they don’t threaten outright conquest, do pose a threat to our lifestyle and domestic tranquility. We can argue about what percentage of the illegals crossing the border are also transporting drugs or illegal weapons (to say nothing of human trafficking), but we know that it is a sizable percentage, especially on the drugs front. Indeed, it is really kind of self-defeating to declare the borders open to all comers (and that is essentially what the Obama Administration has done) while trying to combat illegal drug use in the United States. For example, here in Tennessee they have essentially made Sudafed into a prescription drug in the name of combating meth, but what’s the real point of that? Much of the meth in the United States is made in Mexico or South America and smuggled into the United States. With an open border, all restrictions like this one on Sudafed does is move the manufacture of the methamphetamine out of the United States. This is only a mild disincentative to drug trafficking, if any at all. As for arms flowing across the border, I am not sure. I don’ thave the criminal connections to know if automatic weapons are more available today than they were 25 years ago or not. I know that the prosecutions for NFA violations every year amount to only a few thousand cases a year, and that includes things like sawed-off shotguns and silencers as well as automatic weapons or destructive devices. We know that the flow of weapons to the South is so trivial that the BATF had to run guns themselves to create a “problem” to which “more gun control” was the answer. I’ll take it as a given that if the ATF is manufacturing evidence like this the real “problem” is insignificantly small. Nonetheless, the open border is a threat. Another thing to keep in mind is that bringing in illegal workers also affects the labor market in the United States (depressing pay across the board in low or unskilled labor), and, too, that some of the people being let in are members of organized crime, aimed at tapping the nation’s wealth though criminal activity (including drug trafficking).

A nation that cannot control its borders is well on the way to being a failed state. It isn’t the only criteria for that, but it is a significant one.

    @ lobo91:

I didn’t know that, but it isn’t surprising to me. Northern Mexico is really a low-intensity war zone. Things are somewhat better on our side of the border, but the mass, unrestricted flow of illegal aliens through the area takes its toll on the communities there. And that is to say nothing about what a mockery this makes of our current legal immigration procedures. Why spend the months (and often years) waiting to come in legally when you can take a flight to Mexico, hop the border, and presto you are living the American Dream? The Democrats, of course, would like to legalize all immigration from anywhere with no strings attached, but this is bad policy for a number of reasons.

There’s even push to give illegal immigrants in-state tuition to universities, thus, discriminating against US citizens from other States. This is just plain wrong, and Rick Perry’s support of it is a massive negative weight on the scales.

  83. 84 | July 6, 2014 3:23 pm

This is interesting because of who is saying it:

The political slogan of “no compromise” has migrated into legal strategy with disastrous results. That is precisely what happened in the recess appointments decision in NLRB vs. Canning. I testified on the President’s recess appointments in Congress after they were made and said that the nominations in my view were flagrantly unconstitutional.
The fact that the administration decided to force a confrontation on such a weak case shows not just a lack of judgment but a cavalier attitude towards the costs of such losses. While he clearly has authority to set enforcement priorities in areas like immigration law, Obama has repeatedly stepped well over the line of separation.
These acts of defiance of Congress often come with chest-pounding acclaim, but they also come with costs. For example, by violating the Constitution on recess appointments, a huge array of rulings out of the National Labor Relations Board could be invalid — creating havoc in the area.
Likewise, the President’s recent loss in the Hobby Lobby case, regarding contraception provisions of Obamacare, will require huge changes in such coverage . In a case that may be issued any day now in Halbig vs. Burwell, the D.C. Circuit could strike down another unilateral policy on tax credits under Obamacare that would mean that the administration wrongly committed billions of dollars without authority. That decision could jeopardize the very viability of health-care reform.
In our system, there is no license to go it alone. Rather, the Republic’s democratic architecture requires compromise. The process is designed to moderate legislation and create a broader consensus in support of these laws.

Nor is congressional refusal to act on a particular prescription of how to fix the economy or repair immigration laws an excuse. Sometimes the country (and by extension Congress) is divided.
When that happens, less gets done. The Framers understood such times. They lived in such a time.

Why is this interesting? Because Turley is a very Liberal Constitutional “expert”. He would theoretically be on Obama’s side here, and he is saying multiple constitutional breaches, and that it is of grave concern (or should be) to all sides in the debate. I don’t expect Obama to care, though. He is like that French King who proclaimed “After me the deluge” for France. Being a far-sighted leader this is not.

    @ Iron Fist:

The highlighted paragraph is key. The idea that Congress not agreeing to rubber stamp whatever Obama demands is some sort of “obstructionism” is flat wrong. The Republicans in Congress were elected by their constituents, and a majority of them now control the House. If their agenda is different from Obama’s, tough. Work to get more Democrats in office, or maybe try compromising (as if that would ever happen). It doesn’t mean that you just get to ignore the results of 200+ individual House elections because you don’t like them.

That is, of course, what they mean when they say that. It’s also irrelevant. Yes, there was a time when we allowed pretty much uncontrolled immigration to the US, and naturalization was just a formality. We also had an entire vast continent to populate at the time. There were also essentially no government-funded welfare programs back then. If you came to America and couldn’t make it, you probably died.

That’s not the situation we have today, though. Like any nation, we have a right to decide who is and is not allowed to come here, and that decision should be made based on what’s good for us, for the most part (actual refugees notwithstanding). People like to say that we shouldn’t be the world’s policeman. We also shouldn’t be the world’s refugee camp.

More pseudo-science from the AGW nutcases:

Not The Gingers! Global Warming To Wipe Out Red Heads, Say Climate Crazies

Global warming is a strange, inexorable force determined to take away our sandy beaches, our ski resorts, our air conditioning and everything good in life. That’s what well-paid people who fly around the world in huge jet airplanes keep threatening.

And, wouldn’t you know it, now scientists are claiming that redheads may be wiped out from Scotland as the northern third of the island of Great Britain becomes sunnier as a result of climate change.

The theory goes that red hair is an evolutionary response among human beings to a lack of sunlight, explains the Daily Record, a Glasgow rag.

Red hair allows people who have it to obtain high levels of vitamin D from the sun in places where it doesn’t shine much.

“We think red hair in Scotland, Ireland and the north of England is adaptation to the climate,” said Alistair Moffat, who heads ScotlandsDNA, a genetic testing company. “We do not get enough sun and have to get all the vitamin D we can.”

They also don’t know how evolution occurs. Climate doesn’t cause any specific mutation. To contribute to evolution, a mutation has to make it more likely that the mutant will live to pass on its genetic material to the next generation. Assuming that they are correct about red hair helps process Vitamin D, they have to show how this helps it reproduce. It is like longevity, really. Having log lifespan only helps you evolutionarily if the longevity enables you to reproduce more successfully. Otherwise, it is just a random mutation.

I was just writing that up, more or less.
Modern humanity has been around something between 150K and 200K years, so there would theoretically be enough time for this to have happened, but, of course, humans didn’t live in Scotland for all of those 200K years. But climate doesn’t cause mutation at all. The mutation has to occur and for the mutation to make it more likely to reproduce. It’d make more sense if they said that red hair made you more fertile or something.

And it’s not like all the people with certain characteristics that may have evolved due to climate actually come from those places today. We don’t have to constantly import black people from Africa. They’re able to live in North America without spacesuits. Same goes for redheads. Are blondes more likely to get sunburned and develop skin cancer in the southwest? Sure. That’s why we invented sunscreen. But they don’t burst into flame like vampires.

D’Souza Tells ABC’s Martha Raddatz: There’s A Link Between Obama And Hillary, And It’s Called Alinsky

Conservative filmmaker and commentator Dinesh D’Souza appeared on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday with stand-in host Martha Raddatz and Georgetown professor Michael Eric Dyson to discuss his new movie “America: Imagine The World Without Her.”

Raddatz quickly veered into asking D’Souza about the claims that he believes there is some type of left-wing conspiracy aimed at undermining America, and that President Obama and Hillary Clinton are apart of it.

“You essentially have a conspiracy theory about Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama turning this nation into a socialistic nation, something you said started when Hillary Clinton was in college,” Raddatz said to D’Souza.

“It’s not a conspiracy theory,” D’Souza quickly responded. “A lot of people think that Hillary is like Bill and say ‘We want Billary back in the White House’ because” of that.

He then explained that both Obama and Clinton have both been strongly influenced by the ideas of liberal activist Saul Alinsky, and that is the connection they share.

“The point we make in the film is ‘no’ and there actually is a bridge connecting Hillary to Barack, and that bridge is Saul Alinsky,” D’Souza added.

Report: Feds To Arrive In Murrieta In Riot Gear To Ensure Illegals Come In

As illegal immigrants continue to spill across the U.S.-Mexico border, federal authorities are attempting to relocate the migrants from South Texas to housing facilities in states across the nation. One such facility is located in Murrieta, California, where a large group of protesters recently blocked a bus full of migrants from arriving. The protesters remain there, adamant that illegal immigrants don’t get dumped in their town. But soon the concerned citizens may be forced to step down–Breitbart Texas has learned that federal agents plan to arrive in Murrieta on Monday with riot gear to ensure that another busload makes it to the housing facility.

From Ruby Ridge, to Waco, to the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban to the deliberate failure to secure our borders, to the PATRIOT Act, to Obamacare, to NSA spying, to the use of the IRS against political opponents, to the creation and sustenance of the Frankenstein monster of a vertically-integrated militarized police state — the appetites of the elites of both parties have put themselves into a continual war with the people. It may have been a cold war up to now but it could turn hot at any moment. Just ask the Bundys.

    More bad…..

Obama Regime: Central American Illegals Are “Not Dangerous

The Obama administration claimed Sunday that illegal immigrants flooding across the border from Central America are not dangerous, despite numerous reports of gangsters and criminals being apprehended at the border.

On ABC’s This Week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske said of the nearly 50,000 illegal immigrants who have crossed the border since October of last year, “these are family members.”

“These are not gang members,” he said. “These are not dangerous individuals.”

At a House Homeland Security Committee Field Hearing on the border crisis on Thursday in McAllen, Texas, Texas Governor Rick Perry said that gangsters and terrorists are looking to exploit America’s porous border.

As Breitbart Texas reported, in just one weekend alone last month, “the U.S. Border Patrol prevented murder suspects, multiple sex offenders, and an MS-13 gang member from entering the interior of Texas after they illegally entered into the U.S. from Mexico. The arrests occurred in the Rio Grande Valley sector, ground zero of the current border crisis.”

This whole Obama regime is the problem not just one cog.

It slows them down, and buys us time. They’d have to fight it, and they’d have to come up with a suitable replacement, who would have to be approved by Congress, no?

Stated that way….but Obama doesn’t listen to Congress…but it could very well buy some time! Any time bought is good.

Hello. I finally get to sit down. I know this is off the current topic but I think it’s important.

Why we stuck with Maliki — and lost Iraq

He is an Iraqi who has known Malaki for 10 yrs and been a good friend. He worked with Americans from the beginning of the occupation. This is his story of how he kept warning us to dump Malaki because he was working only for his own power. This is the best “present at the creation’ type piece I’ve read. A bit long but well worth it.

They do, but they don’t think strategically. If the Democrats had removed Bill Clinton in 1998 when he was impeached, Al Gore would have won the 2000 election handily. Bill Clinton was essentially done after impeachment, even though he wasn’t removed. Al Gore would have had the advantage of incumbency against Bush, who was in truth a weak candidate. Democrats didn’t think that way, though. They only thought about winning the immediate action and so they won the battle, but we got eight years of George Bush as a result of that.

I was thinking about you the other day. I was looking for something and came across Alton Brown’s recipe for shrimp gumbo. Look how he makes his roux!

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Place the vegetable oil and flour into a 5 to 6-quart cast iron Dutch oven and whisk together to combine. Place on the middle shelf of the oven, uncovered, and bake for 1 1/2 hours, whisking 2 to 3 times throughout the cooking process

4 oz veg oil, 4 oz flour

If the Democrats had any brains, and enough balls to slap down Harry Reid, they’d turn on their own wheelbase, join with the Republicans, impeach Obama near-unanimously and throw him from office.

But between Reid and some of their shadow money men, they probably don’t have the nerve.

Yeah, I’d say that is part of it. It is a way to set themselves outside of civil society. You see people in white supremacist gangs that do that too. But what it does is show us that they should be able to filter out some of these gangsters with relative ease. I don’t think that Obama’s Border Patrol is interested in doing that. They’ve been instructed to let these people through.

CNN’s Candy Crowley Outraged Murrieta Mayor Isn’t Stopping Bus Protests: “Oh My Goodness, The Poor Children”…

CNN’s Candy Crowley slammed a small-town mayor Sunday for not taking a harder line against American citizens who are protesting a flood of illegal immigrants into his town.

Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union, Murrieta, California Mayor Alan Long pointed out that federal authorities, not his office, made the decision Tuesday to divert three busloads of undocumented immigrants from a detention center in the Riverside County city of 107,000.

Crowley repeatedly chastised Long, however, for not clearing the streets of protestors.

“As you look at these protests, the overwhelming concern did not seem to be, ‘Oh my goodness, the poor children,” Crowley said, “The overwhelming concern seemed to be, ‘Go away. Not here.’ If this is an American concern, are you at all rethinking the idea that a town can turn away busloads of children without documents who are on their way to a federal processing center?”

    “Children without documents”?

Is that like when the 3 little kittens lost their mittens?

Well, it was a heck of a drive, but we’re back from TX. I don’t want to drive through big cities like Ft Worth, San Antonio & Austin again. We’re going back in the fall, driving both ways this time. I think we’ll try a different route, maybe through Wichita Falls.

Mom’s doing okay. She’ll move in to a place in a few weeks that’s smaller, and cheaper, and closer to town. I have some of dad’s stuff on genealogy & some family pictures. No clue what I’m going to do with all that.

We’ll go down to the Ozarks, maybe next spring, and scatter his ashes there along one of the rivers we canoed on when I was a kid.

The Aussies got hit between the eyes by US restrictions and the minutiae of how and when free trade would come about. Like getting immediate access to the Aussie market US pharmaceutical companies who stitched the drug pricing into the high price US scheme and trashed the inexpensive Aussie generic drug buying system through regulation, trashed the Aussie film industry through enforced US mandated unionised work practices forced on the Aussie industry. But somehow the Aussie meat producers had to wait a decade until they could compete on a level playing field with subsidised US beef producers. So some more time spent looking in the mirror might be recommended before going all ‘victim’ on me mate about Asian steel producers.

I think coldwarrior has pretty much covered this, but I have a little to add. What you (and the world) should be pissed about are our grain subsidies and ethanol mandate. The ethanol mandate causes world grain prices to rise, and that is not a good thing. When the price of grain goes up, people in the Third World starve. I consider the ethanol mandate to be immoral. It doesn’t get much push-back here in the States because even our poorest can afford food. In Africa it is an abomination. On free trade itself, NAFTA has hurt American business. We always had more to lose than to gain there. But what has really hurt us is MFN trading status with China. China keeps her markets pretty much closed to American goods, while over here it is a difficult thing to find things that aren’t made in China.

Dick Durbin: I Am “Fed Up” With People Who Are Criticizing Dear Leader…

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) on Sunday expressed frustration with House Republicans for criticizing President Obama about the border crisis while they have failed to consider comprehensive immigration reform.

“I am really getting fed up with some of the critics of this administration, particularly from House Republicans,” he said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

House GOP leaders have had a year to take up a Senate-passed immigration bill “and yet they refused to,” Durbin said.

“Now they’re arguing we need more enforcement at the borders and a lot of other things,” he said.

“When are they going to accept their responsibility to govern, to call up this bipartisan bill for consideration?” he asked.

Meanwhile, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said he would continue to urge House Republicans to work on immigration reform.

Meanwhile, Senate Dem leaders have had 5 years to take up a House-passed budget bill. When are they going to accept their responsibility to govern?

Thank you. I’ve no brothers or sisters, so aunts, uncles and cousins are very close. It’s that time in my life when the previous generation moves on. One of the things my mother said to me on her deathbed was that “death isn’t the worst thing in life, only the last”. I hope I can have that kind of philosophical attitude when it’s my time.

You and me both. Time goes so fast. My family is so fractured I rarely hear from them….middle brother is coming to visit for a couple of days. I hope it goes well. But my youngest son is already grumbling. Long story cut short…I got very sick and my family got very weird …… I have very few Aunts and Uncles and the ones I was close to were great-Aunts and great-Uncles who have all passed on for a while now.

You can’t reason a man out of a position that he didn’t reason himself into. For the Left it is a religious faith in government that motivates their positions. Their belief in the Power of the State rivals that of any other faith’s faith in God. It is a form of idolatry, and it very much intends to spread its faith by the sword. Try not paying your taxes and see how that works for you.

Bear in mind these are the same Democrats who whined and moaned and pulled on their hair shirts that the Congress was rubber-stamping everything Bush wanted 2001-2006. The trouble for them is that this “PUSH” of the kids across the border was supposed to elicit sympathy and make everyone scream for amnesty. It’s had the exact opposite effect. They aren’t the brightest bulbs in the drawer, but I’m thinking the House members – Republican AND Democrat – are starting to get emails, facebooks posts and tweets from their constituents letting them know that NO, the American people did not now or ever favor a path to citizenship for the illegals, wanted them shipped home and frankly want this new crop returned to their parents.

After all, this is the same party that had no problem with taking Elian Gonzalez at the point of a gun and shipping him back to the horrors of Cuba. Ship the kids back. I’m willing to wager that you won’t have to go farther than effing MEXICO to reunite them.

There are some serious allegations being made that DHS bussed these kids over the border, that there was an orchestrated campaign in the “Central American” countries for them to come here. I mean, 60,000 kids just waltz through Mexico, where they take border invasion VERY seriously. This smells to high heaven.

The question needs to be asked – did operatives of the Obama Administration contrive this border invasion, urge it, and assist in it?

Yes, I posted about this earlier in the week. With La Raza. Ceclia Munoz has been to the White House about as often as the Muslim Brotherhood. The guy who said everybody left Honduras also said there were people down there telling the ag workers they could make $17/hr here and to just turn themselves over to the first Border Agent they saw, they would be taken care of. That’s the SECOND time I’ve heard the ‘just walk up to a Border Agent’ thing.

Obama timed this so he could slam Republicans with doing nothing about immigration reform, he’s going to pull out a pen, sign an EO and carry it into the mid terms.

Not to mention they stay in a state of anger especially if you don’t agree with them or think like them or do the same things like them. It’s nutz! And I have been ground zero for them. Right now I hardly talk to them and when I do I make short. My youngest brother promised he would never yell at me again or cuss me out again. Two days later he broke it over something he didn’t even know!

Tell them, “Get over yourself. Do some research and when you have a clue what your talking about, get back to me.”
They should be ashamed the way that you are being treated.

    @ RIX:

I’ve noticed two trends in movies about guns. On one hand, you see movies getting much more real with their weapons. You see actors with their fingers off the triggers when they should be, not indiscriminately pointing their guns at other people, and so forth. Even some of the military movies showing the characters firing semi-automatic aimed shots. At the other extreme you have da pimp in da hood holding the gun sideways, above his head, and loosely gripped so that the gun kind of dangles there. This guy (of course) hits every time he shoots, while his enemies can’t hit the broad side of a barn. You don’t see much of anything in between the two extremes, at least not in the kind of movies I watch.

that may backfire on him. It is tough to say. On the one hand, they are using kids to pull on peoples’ heart strings, and that works a surprising amount of the time, but on the other hand the economy is lousy, Americans don’t have jobs, and these people you are bringing in will undercut the poor working class. John Kerry may not care if his gardener is name Juan or John, or if he’s legal or illegal, but it makes a difference to people like the guy who does my lawn, who is American. We gave him a little raise this year because we felt he was owed it, but he didn’t raise his prices on us himself. Depending on what part of the country you are in, though, you have illegals undercutting people like this, and, as I said, the economy already sucks. Of course, this latest round of immigrants aren’t even necessarily going to do that. The big push is to get them in-state tuition (which discriminates against out-of-state US Citizens) and grants (which ultimately come out of the pockets of the US taxpayer).

They don’t teach critical thinking in schools anymore. Even when I went through they didn’t teach logic and reasoning before you went to college. They were more concerned that you be able to memorize rote facts than that you think synthetically with them. It doesn’t appear, though, that they even teach logic and reasoning in college. For a while I was a philosophy major, and I had my share of logic classes. This was good for me, even if it didn’t directly support what my eventual work would be. And in a way the philosophy did that. I’d had truth trees and truth tables, and various logical structures as a philosophy major, so when I came into classes on digital logic it wasn’t an entirely new way of thinking for me.

    @ Iron Fist:

Most people don’t realize it, but in-state tuition costs the taxpayers of the state money, as well. The out-of-state tuition rate isn’t some sort of penalty. It’s the actual tuition rate. When someone is granted in-state tuition, the difference (usually around 75%) is made up by the taxpayers. The school gets the same amount of money either way.

  423. 426 | July 7, 2014 12:22 pm

    @ lobo91:

No lie! The purpose of a slide on a shotgun is to scare people, right? It is a pretty sad commentary on the culture that we are like this. Most Americans think you should carry a gun with an unloaded round under the hammer, which, in truth, was the way you should do it with old-fashioned single-action revolvers. But those have been superseded by more than a century of technology. For the most part Hollywood is still presenting “Wild West” gunfighters, just with different weapons and maybe a broader ethnic base of actors and actresses.

Wow! Me I am going to have to admit…I have always wanted to know if that was some crock or if it really is true. So at a very young age I read, read and read some more. So more or less I self-taught along with school. I didn’t have any college…for some reason I really didn’t want to go that route. I wanted to work and be independent and move away from home. So I am can of the average person here. 😉
But I do notice that when a group of people say to almost the T the same thing something is wrong. Especially on politics and such. Even here you are going to have differing opinions and thoughts that don’t go wrong…and some do. But when I hear the same thing quoted word for word …..something’s way off.

Good point. When you realize that the State is on the hook for the money for illegal immigrants, it makes that look all the more awful. They are taxing me to pay for the college education of somebody who jumped the border. If more people understood that, I think you’d have less support for that than you do. America is going broke. You can’t be borrowing money to give gifts to the neighborhood kids when you can’t pay your own mortgage.

When I read the cost analysis that the legislative finance office prepared for the bill, it all made sense.

Another thing that annoys me is the sound effects they use. Apparently, TV directors in particular can’t abide someone drawing and aiming a pistol without there being some kind of sound effect, so they always throw in some sort of metallic click. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Glock, even. The person raises the gun, and there’s a click.

    Mine don’t do that…

Obama Regime Suing North Carolina Over Voter ID Law Claiming It’s Racist, Holder Says State Intentionally Trying To Suppress Black Vote…

Seems to me that if they’re claiming the state is “intentionally” doing something, they should have to prove that “intent.”

This goes above and beyond the usual claims they make about racial discrimination. Their usual claim is “disparate impact.”

    @ lobo91:

The reason I went to FSU was because they offered me the most scholarship money. Part of that scholarship was the waiving of out-of-state tuition. IIRC, monetarily that was more money that they went out of pocket to pay my full tuition. It was a very good scholarship. Paid my full tuition, books, and even left me a little spending money. I had to pay my dorm rent, but that was it. I liked Tallahassee, and if things had worked out differently I’d probably still be living in Florida. But they didn’t. If wishes were fishes, and all that.

    @ lobo91:

I hope NC gets back in their face about this. People who are against Voter ID are for voter fraud. We have a voter ID law here in Tennessee, and it is really nothing if you are voting legally. This is the same kind of shit from a Party that demands a photo ID for every gun that is sold in the United States, to make sure that the State doesn’t have some reason for wanting to keep you from buying one. Gun ownership is a right. Voting is a privilege.

I didn’t make straight A’s, especially when I was a kid, but I also didn’t have to put forth any real effort to make B’s. When you are a kid you take the path of least resistance. I wasn’t smart enough to know that I had an opportunity to learn if I would take it. Oh, well, water under the bridge. Ed Klein at the NY Post says Obama will back Fauxcahontas the Cherohonkee in order to spite the Hildebeest.

President Barack Obama has vowed to throw his complete support behind Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren if she chooses to run for president in 2016, writes Ed Klein in the New York Post.

Obama has ordered his political svengali, Valerie Jarrett, to convince Warren, who currently has two years of experience as an elected official, to run against the Clinton machine in 2016.

There have been secret meetings, Klein says.

“She is a committed progressive who, like Obama, wants to transform America into a European-style democratic-socialist state,” Klein quotes his deep-throat source as saying.
