4 Ways to Make a Guest Feel at Home
October 17, 2018
With the holidays often comes an overnight visitor or two. If you are having family or friends stay with you for a few days, it is important to help them feel at home. Here are 4 ways in which you can do just that:
Give Them a Tour
If your guest has never been to your house, or maybe it has been some time since they last visited – it is important to show them around. Give them a tour of your home while pointing out areas of interest – like their room, bathrooms, kitchen, living room, etc. This way if they need to get up in the middle of the night to use the restroom or wakes up before everyone else, they know where to go. Along with the tour, you may want to show them where certain items are like the coffee maker or extra blankets.
Have Things They Like on Hand
Before they arrive ask them what kind of beverages and snacks that they prefer. It is nice to have these things readily available and will make your guest feel appreciated and well at home. Once they arrive, show them where they can find the snacks and beverages so they can help themselves whenever they would like.
Set Out a Welcome Basket
One nice touch to have ready for guests is a welcome basket. In the basket include things like a map of your town, brochures to local attractions, some local made goodies like jam or cookies and anything else that you think that your guest(s) may like. This is a gesture that would make anyone feel at home and welcomed.
Ready Their Room/Bathroom
If you know that you are having guests, it is important to prepare in advance. Make sure the bedroom they will be staying in is spic and span, with fresh sheets on the bed. You may want to put a candle or room freshener in there as well. If it is around the holidays, a few small holiday decorations would make a nice touch.
In the bathroom that they will be using, set out fresh towels and as a bonus have travel sized toiletries available like shampoo/conditioner, soap, lotion, razor, toothbrush and paste, etc. Most everyone forgets something when they travel, so having a few things readily available to them will be a big help.
It is always important to prepare in advance for guests, as it will be less stressful for you. Plus, as an added bonus your guests will be happier as you have more time to add extra touches to make them feel welcomed and at home.
