5 Tips for Choosing a Quality Cigar
December 17, 2017
If you enjoy cigars but are pretty new to them, you might not be sure of what to look for in a cigar. Of course, buying a cigar for the first time can be challenging. If you look for these five things, however, you should be able to purchase a great cigar.
1. Make Sure It’s Filled
First of all, to ensure that you are getting your money’s worth and that the cigar will burn evenly, you will want to make sure that you choose a cigar that is completely full of tobacco. This means that the cigar should be nice and firm to the touch, and you shouldn’t see any visible spots where there is less tobacco. There should also be plenty of tobacco at both ends of the cigar without too much of a gap.
2. Choose a Cigar That Isn’t Dry
Next, you will want to choose a cigar that is not dry. Even though there are ways that you can save a cigar that has dried out, in general, it will negatively affect the experience. Instead, look for a cigar that seems fresh and not too dry.
3. Make Sure There are No Tears
When looking over a cigar, look for any tears or other imperfections. If a cigar has tears, you have to worry about smoke leaking out of the hole and affecting how the cigar burns. Plus, tears can be a sign of mishandling or that care was not taken when the cigar was rolled.
4. Give it a Sniff
It can sometimes be tough to guess how a cigar is going to taste without actually trying it. One good indication that you will like the way that a cigar tastes is if you like the way that it smells. Consider taking a whiff of the cigar that you are thinking about buying; if you like the way that it smells, then you just might like the way that it tastes as well.
5. Look for an Even Color
When looking at a cigar, you should take a look at its color. It should have a rich, even color all over. If you notice that the cigar has light or mottled spots, then it could be a sign that there is a quality issue with the cigar.
As you can see, there are a few things that you can look for to help you ensure that you are choosing a quality cigar. Regardless of the price point that you are shopping at, if you look for these five things, you can help ensure that you choose a high-quality cigar that you can enjoy.
