About 30 non-commercial TV stations around the U.S. are airing “MHz Network Worldview,” which includes programs from Al Jazeera English, the Kremlin’s “Russia Today” and other foreign state-controlled instruments of propaganda. MHz Worldview is also available in the Washington, D.C. area.
MHz Networks’ slogan is “Many voices. One world.” A non-profit entity, it is designed for “globally-minded people.”
One of the controversial programs broadcast on MHz1 WNVC-DT every Sunday is titled, “Living Islam in America,” described as “a thirty minute discussion-magazine formatted television series with a primary goal of educating the general population about the faith & culture of Islam and the burgeoning Muslim communities throughout America.”
The host, Johari Abdul Malik, is described by his supporters as an advocate of non-violence. However, the Investigative Project on Terrorism says that he supports radical and political Islamic causes. It reports, “At a 2001 conference hosted by the Islamic Association of Palestine, a now defunct propaganda branch of the Specially Designated Terrorist organization Hamas, he called for attacks against Israeli infrastructure to show Muslim displeasure with Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.”
Abdul-Malik said, “I am gonna teach you now. You can blow up bridges, but you cannot kill people who are innocent on their way to work. You can blow up power supplies… the water supply, you can do all forms of sabotage and let the world know that we are doing it like this because they have a respect for the lives of innocent people.”
Abdul-Malik has also been quoted as saying, “before Allah closes our eyes for the last time you will see Islam move from being the second largest religion in America—that’s where we are now—to being the first religion in America.”
American taxpayers are helping to put this material on the air whether they watch it or not.

I always thought that public TV stations adhered to production standards that put a substantial emphasis on accuracy in content. But obviously something has changed.
This has come about because the digital transition has given stations a lot more air time to fill. They find themselves with many more channels to program but unfortunately only the same paltry amount of creativity, initiative and common sense with which to do so. So, being desperately in need of filler, they turn to almost anyone with a satellite uplink and a program feed. I call it state-of-the-art technology in the service of medieval ideology.
It seems that some bureaucrat-broadcasters are willing to air almost anything knowing that no matter how misleading, irresponsible or reprehensible it may be, they can always justify it in the name of improved global understanding, academic freedom or free speech. Take your pick. That is, if they are even aware that they are airing it at all.
The very first MHz affiliate program manager that I contacted was at WDSC-TV in Daytona Beach, Florida. She appeared not to have known for nearly seven months that her station was even airing Al Jazeera English (AJE). She found out only after she received a complaint from a soldier. Apparently, they don’t even watch their own channels. After she finally did watch one episode of AJE, she concluded that it was “innocuous.”
Maybe it was the multi-million dollar studio in Washington, D.C. with anchors wearing designer suits and having proper British accents that brought her to that conclusion. Everyone knows that Jihadist propaganda can only emanate from a dusty cave somewhere in the Middle East decorated with war maps and AK-47s.
The bottom line is this: U.S. taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize the distribution in the U.S. of another country’s propaganda. Period.

Presidents Ford and Carter both issued Ramadan messages, as did Presidents Clinton and George W. Bush. The Ramadan greeting became intensely political during Mr. Bush’s tenure because he was seeking to dispel the charge that the war on terrorism was a crusade against Islam. But Mr. Obama has used the occasion of Ramadan to rewrite U.S. history and give Islam a prominence in American annals that it has not earned.
In this year’s greeting, Mr. Obama said the rituals of Ramadan “remind us of the principles that we hold in common and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings. Ramadan is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity and racial equality. And here in the United States, Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country.”
That Islam has had a major role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings may come as a surprise to Muslim women. Young Afghan girls who are having acid thrown in their faces on the way to school might want to offer their perspectives. That Islam is “known” for diversity and racial equality is also a bit of a reach. This certainly does not refer to religious diversity, which is nonexistent in many Muslim-majority states. This is a plaudit better reserved for a speech at the opening of a synagogue in Mecca.
Most puzzling is the president’s claim that “Islam has always been part of America.” Islam had no influence on the origins and development of the United States. It contributed nothing to early American political culture, art, literature, music or any other aspect of the early nation.
It takes a particular type of self-righteous and aggressive ignoramus to think that the real evils of this world will all go away if enough people can be shamed or bullied into denying that those evils exist.
Simmons’ apartment on Liberty St. overlooks Ground Zero. Each letter of the banner features different religious and spiritual symbols. Like Bloomberg, Simmons is a big supporter of the planned center: “I was trying to figure out ways I could reach people and promote a message of tolerance…The fact that it is a public discussion, that there’s so many against it is what I think is disappointing to me, that so many people don’t know that we founded our country on the First Amendment,” he told the AP.

It all started with a parody from Tom McMahon, who was aggravated by the extremely smug and intellectually slovenly bumper sticker in which a variety of religious symbols spell out “COEXIST.”
McMahon produced a parody bumper sticker with Nazi and Communist symbols substituted.
His point, of course, was that some religious views are simply impossible to coexist with, and must (like Nazism and Communism) be fought.
We Christians strongly believe in tolerance, and this is what British novelist Dorothy Sayers pointed out about “Tolerance”:
In this world it is called Tolerance, but in hell it is called indifference, the sin that believes in nothing, cares for nothing, seeks to know nothing, interferes with nothing, enjoys nothing, hates nothing, finds purpose in nothing, lives for nothing, and remains alive because there is nothing for which it will die.
If any viewpoint is equally as valid as any other, then no viewpoint has any meaning, and it matters not what any of us thinks, says, or does. This philosophy is truly satanic, and it is called nihilism.

The more they toss around the race card – the more we know that they are losing and getting panicky.

Liberalism under siege is an ugly sight indeed. Just yesterday it was all hope and change and returning power to the people. But the people have proved so disappointing. Their recalcitrance has, in only 19 months, turned the predicted 40-year liberal ascendancy (James Carville) into a full retreat. Ah, the people, the little people, the small-town people, the “bitter” people, as Barack Obama in an unguarded moment once memorably called them, clinging “to guns or religion or” — this part is less remembered — “antipathy toward people who aren’t like them.”
That’s a polite way of saying: clinging to bigotry. And promiscuous charges of bigotry are precisely how our current rulers and their vast media auxiliary react to an obstreperous citizenry that insists on incorrect thinking.
– Resistance to the vast expansion of government power, intrusiveness and debt, as represented by the Tea Party movement? Why, racist resentment toward a black president.
– Disgust and alarm with the federal government’s unwillingness to curb illegal immigration, as crystallized in the Arizona law? Nativism.
– Opposition to the most radical redefinition of marriage in human history, as expressed in Proposition 8 in California? Homophobia.
– Opposition to a 15-story Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero? Islamophobia.
Now we know why the country has become “ungovernable,” last year’s excuse for the Democrats’ failure of governance: Who can possibly govern a nation of racist, nativist, homophobic Islamophobes?
Note what connects these issues. In every one, liberals have lost the argument in the court of public opinion. Majorities — often lopsided majorities — oppose President Obama’s social-democratic agenda (e.g., the stimulus, Obamacare), support the Arizona law, oppose gay marriage and reject a mosque near Ground Zero.
What’s a liberal to do? Pull out the bigotry charge, the trump that preempts debate and gives no credit to the seriousness and substance of the contrary argument. The most venerable of these trumps is, of course, the race card. When the Tea Party arose, a spontaneous, leaderless and perfectly natural (and traditionally American) reaction to the vast expansion of government intrinsic to the president’s proudly proclaimed transformational agenda, the liberal commentariat cast it as a mob of angry white yahoos disguising their antipathy to a black president by cleverly speaking in economic terms.

It is a measure of the corruption of liberal thought and the collapse of its self-confidence that, finding itself so widely repudiated, it resorts reflexively to the cheapest race-baiting (in a colorful variety of forms). Indeed, how can one reason with a nation of pitchfork-wielding mobs brimming with “antipathy toward people who aren’t like them” — blacks, Hispanics, gays and Muslims — a nation that is, as Michelle Obama once put it succinctly, “just downright mean”?
The Democrats are going to get beaten badly in November. Not just because the economy is ailing. And not just because Obama over-read his mandate in governing too far left. But because a comeuppance is due the arrogant elites whose undisguised contempt for the great unwashed prevents them from conceding a modicum of serious thought to those who dare oppose them.
By inclination and education, Obama is a progressive, most probably an atheist, and as Bill Kristol says “and he’s a golfer too”. However while he is not a Muslim, he is definitely an Islamophile. Every foreign policy statement and speech seems to be an attempt to curry favor with the Islamic world – and that is what is most troubling to me.

In that spirit, and speaking, we think, for the vast majority of those opposed to the Ground Zero mosque, and in response to many inquiries as to where we stand on this pressing issue, The Weekly Standard would like to say, formally and emphatically, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion: President Obama is not a Muslim. (And, it turns out, he too is a golfer.)
Not that—we hasten to add, looking over our shoulder at Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s investigators approaching our office—there would be anything wrong with his being a Muslim. And we also hasten to add that we’ve just realized, with a gasp of embarrassment verging on horror, that in the preceding paragraph we used the term Ground Zero mosque. The Associated Press has officially expressed its disapproval of that appellation. After all, the AP has explained, the planned mosque is not right smack-dab at the epicenter of Ground Zero.
Still, with all this confusion abounding, we do wonder if it isn’t a bit judgmental of the mainstream media to condemn the 18 percent of Americans who say they think Barack Obama is a Muslim. For one thing, this is fewer than the number of Americans who say that intelligent beings from other planets have made contact with humans on Earth. And it has gotten hard even for people of good will to keep things straight.

But Americans aren’t all mixed up in their judgment of President Obama’s policies. Obama said last week, at a Hollywood fundraiser, that he and congressional Democrats “have been able to deliver the most progressive legislative agenda—one that helps working families—not just in one generation, maybe two, maybe three.”
Obama made this claim about the magnitude of his progressive agenda Monday night. By Thursday, his allies, looking at public opinion polls showing amazingly wide and deep hostility to his signature health care legislation, were on a conference call advising Democrats to minimize the scope of the health care bill.

So progressivism seeks to bring big changes to our backward country. Progressives like to dream about passing “the most progressive legislative agenda . . . not just in one generation, maybe two, maybe three.” But when progressivism has to give up its grand transformational claims, then we’re back in the world of reality and results, of the practical consequences of policy choices. A political debate over consequences rather than intentions, and over the real world rather than an imagined one, is one that is, as it has been for a long time, good for conservatives and bad for progressives.
As I wrote yesterday, Barack Hussein Obama has given the Republicans the electoral gift of a life time. For once the GOP has taken off the gloves and is on the offensive. Democrats nationwide are scrambling with the fallout of Obama’s support for the 9/11 Ground Zero Islamic Colonial Center. The Progressive machine is on the retreat and prominent Democrats like Harry Reid have come out against this project. Progressives all across this nation are feeling the anger of the American people, who have finally woke up from the Islam is peace lie spouted by our Progressive bi-partisan elite after 9/11.
“He expressed support for that project,” says Salam Al-Marayati, president of the Muslim Public Affairs Council and a guest at the White House iftar dinner on Friday. The “he” to whom Al-Marayati refers is President Obama, and “that project” is the Ground Zero mosque. “Did we believe he supported the project?” Al-Marayati asks. “Yes.”

While Obama’s position is “defensible,” former Democratic Rep. Martin Frost wrote recently in Politico, “it will not play well in the parts of the country where Democrats need the most help.” According to RealClearPolitics, there are 27 House Democrats in races that now lean Republican, and there are another 30 Democrats in races that are judged toss-ups. (There are just four Republicans in races that lean Democratic or are toss-ups.) Do most of those endangered Democrats really want to spend their time defending the president’s position on the Ground Zero mosque?
Republicans know they have an issue. For Sen. John Cornyn, who is directing the GOP Senate campaign effort, the mosque affair “demonstrates that Washington, the White House, the administration, the president himself seems to be disconnected from the mainstream of America.”
This issue is what is breaking the Democrats back in this election. In their hearts they want to come out and support the Islamic Colonial center near ground zero since they are allied with Islamic Imperialists and agree with their agenda. However, they know the American people are angry over this insult. Progressives are scared and are doing everything possible to avoid this issue.
Conservatives need to keep pounding them on this issue as Obama and the Progressives are on the retreat. No mercy is to be shown because the Progressive-Islamic Axis is there for all Americans to see.
Update: The panic over the Ground Zero Mosque is spreading in Democratic circles. Three NY Congressman have come out against it, thus breaking with Obama on this issue. Conservatives need to keep the pressure as the Progressives are abandoning their Islamic allies!
Dr. K. states the obvious – that it is just as outrageous to put a Mosque up in the shadow of Ground Zero, as it was when some pig capitalist built a tower at Gettysburg (which eventually was torn down) that stood out like a sore thumb on the battlefield. Maybe one day there will be a proposal to build a Mosque near the site of the Ft. Hood massacre. It is not a case of religious freedom – nobody is being prevented form practicing their religion, but a case of simple decency.

A place is made sacred by a widespread belief that it was visited by the miraculous or the transcendent (Lourdes, the Temple Mount), by the presence there once of great nobility and sacrifice (Gettysburg), or by the blood of martyrs and the indescribable suffering of the innocent (Auschwitz).
When we speak of Ground Zero as hallowed ground, what we mean is that it belongs to those who suffered and died there — and that such ownership obliges us, the living, to preserve the dignity and memory of the place, never allowing it to be forgotten, trivialized or misappropriated.
That’s why Disney’s 1993 proposal to build an American history theme park near Manassas Battlefield was defeated by a broad coalition that feared vulgarization of the Civil War (and that was wiser than me; at the time I obtusely saw little harm in the venture). It’s why the commercial viewing tower built right on the border of Gettysburg was taken down by the Park Service. It’s why, while no one objects to Japanese cultural centers, the idea of putting one up at Pearl Harbor would be offensive.
And why Pope John Paul II ordered the Carmelite nuns to leave the convent they had established at Auschwitz. He was in no way devaluing their heartfelt mission to pray for the souls of the dead. He was teaching them a lesson in respect: This is not your place; it belongs to others. However pure your voice, better to let silence reign.
Even New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who denounced opponents of the proposed 15-story mosque and Islamic center near Ground Zero as tramplers on religious freedom, asked the mosque organizers “to show some special sensitivity to the situation.” Yet, as columnist Rich Lowry pointedly noted, the government has no business telling churches how to conduct their business, shape their message or show “special sensitivity” to anyone about anything. Bloomberg was thereby inadvertently conceding the claim of those he excoriates for opposing the mosque, namely that Ground Zero is indeed unlike any other place and therefore unique criteria govern what can be done there.
Bloomberg’s implication is clear: If the proposed mosque were controlled by “insensitive” Islamist radicals either excusing or celebrating 9/11, he would not support its construction.
But then, why not? By the mayor’s own expansive view of religious freedom, by what right do we dictate the message of any mosque? Moreover, as a practical matter, there’s no guarantee that this couldn’t happen in the future. Religious institutions in this country are autonomous. Who is to say that the mosque won’t one day hire an Anwar al-Aulaqi — spiritual mentor to the Fort Hood shooter and the Christmas Day bomber, and onetime imam at the Virginia mosque attended by two of the 9/11 terrorists?
An Aulaqi preaching in Virginia is a security problem. An Aulaqi preaching at Ground Zero is a sacrilege. Or would the mayor then step in — violating the same First Amendment he grandiosely pretends to protect from mosque opponents — and exercise a veto over the mosque’s clergy?
Location matters. Especially this location. Ground Zero is the site of the greatest mass murder in American history — perpetrated by Muslims of a particular Islamist orthodoxy in whose cause they died and in whose name they killed.
The Tranzi Totalitarian progressives launched the most vicious political destruction of a man ever seen in American politics. I was no Bush fan, but what the Left did to him in a time of war was wrong. Everything he proposed they were against, even though they were Progressive ideas! They made him out to be some far Right politician. In reality Bush was a Left of Center Progressive Republican, just not an America hating type like Obama. He actually did love America and although I disagreed with many of his Progressive based policies, he genuinely thought he was doing good.
Real Conservatism is making a comeback and is poised to deliver a massive blow to the Progressive Democrats. Now all of the sudden they like Bush! That’s right, Peter Beinart is now lamenting the fact that Conservatives are eliminating Progressives Ideology from the Republican Party. After years of demonization, now they realize Bush was close to them on many policies.

In the age of Obama, I always assumed that the Democratic Party would define itself against George W. Bush. But I never imagined that the Republican Party would as well.

After September 11, Bush described Muslims in the same universalistic way. A few months after the attacks, he insisted that “Islam is peace,” a view dramatically at odds with the one being propagated by most conservative talking heads. (A 2002 poll of evangelical Protestant leaders found that only 10 percent thought Bush was right.) But Bush’s brand of Christianity was genuinely ecumenical. Although he had transformed his life through Christ, he knew that lots of former addicts had done so through born-again Islam. As president, he sought out people like Iraqi dissident Kanan Makiya who told him that the people of Iraq yearned for democracy, and were capable of building it. And it was this belief that made him receptive to the arguments of Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, who as ambassador to Indonesia had been emboldened by watching the world’s largest majority-Muslim country move from dictatorship to democracy. Two months before the Iraq War, Bush declared, “The human heart desires the same good things, everywhere on Earth. In our desire to be safe from brutal and bullying oppression, human beings are the same. In our desire to care for our children and give them a better life, we are the same. For these fundamental reasons, freedom and democracy will always and everywhere have greater appeal than the slogans of hatred and the tactics of terror.”
The Progressives should have realized that on many issues Bush was actually on their side. Instead, in pursuit of power they did all they could to destroy him. They did the same to McCain, another progressive Republican. What didn’t occur to them was that they helped defeat the Progressive element of the GOP and opened it to genuine Conservatives. Now they are dealing with a monster of their own Creation and they don’t know what to do. Many Conservatives have gotten over Bush and moved on. Now in an ironic twist of history it’s the Left who will miss Bush.
This is not the first time it has happened. The Left attacked Eisenhower, Nixon and Ford. Now these three Presidents are idolized by the Progressives. Even Reagan and Goldwater are getting praised by the Left. This is hypocrisy and dishonesty on part of the Left.
The moral of the story is to always be careful what you wish for!

Nine years after September 11, 2001 with continued attacks and appeasement on the part of our Progressive bi-partisan elite, the American people have woke up. Polls show the majority of Americans don’t like Islam and are tired of it’s encroachment in America. The September 11th ground zero Islamic Colonial center was the straw that broke the camel’s back. This is a flagrant insult to our nation and even in Leftist NY the majority of residents are opposed to this abomination. In Staten Island an Islamic Colonial outpost was rejected by the residents of the Midlands neighborhood. From Tennessee to California, Americans have had enough Islamic Imperialism. In Sheboygan, Wis., a few Christian ministers led a noisy fight against a Muslim group that sought permission to open a mosque in a former health food store bought by a Muslim doctor.
At one time, neighbors who did not want mosques in their backyards said their concerns were over traffic, parking and noise — the same reasons they might object to a church or a synagogue. But now the gloves are off.
In all of the recent conflicts, opponents have said their problem is Islam itself. They quote passages from the Koran and argue that even the most Americanized Muslim secretly wants to replace the Constitution with Islamic Shariah law.
The fact the Tranzi Totalitarian Progressive rag, the NY Times, is lamenting that Americans are resisting their Islamic allies shows that they are scared. For too long our leaders (in both parties) have appeased and even given immigration preferences to people from Islamic countries and have taught the Islamic version of history in our own schools. Islam is the one religion that is not allowed to be attacked while Catholic and Evangelical bashing is encouraged in our society.
Well no more, the sleeping giant has awakened and we are no longer tolerant of our enemies.
This is my message to Dar Al Islam: Don’t expect that the next Republican President will declare your racist ideology a religion of peace. Don’t expect that in the next round of fighting we will go in as goody goodies and build you schools. Expect nothing but a Mongol style destruction without mercy. Our patience is running out and after we destroy the Progressive movement and restore our economy you are next!

Shelomo Alfassá oversees Special Projects for a national Jewish organization based at the Center for Jewish History in New York City. He specializes in the history of Jews from both Iberia (Spain and Portugal) and the Ottoman Empire (the former Turkish empire including Ottoman Palestine, etc.). From 2006-2009 he was U.S. Director of Justice for Jews from Arab Countries (JJAC) where he successfully helped develop H.Res.185, an historic resolution recognizing rights of Jews displaced from Arab countries which was unanimously approved by the U.S. Congress on April 1, 2008.
Mr. Alfassá is the founder and former Executive Director of the International Sephardic Leadership Council and the editor of the award winning International Sephardic Journal. Well known as an international advocate for Sephardic Jewry, Mr. Alfassá served as former Director of Research and Development for Sephardic House in New York City and for four years he served as a vice-president of the Foundation for the Advancement of Sephardic Studies and Culture. He was a staff consultant to both the Sephardic Educational Center and the Shehebar Sephardic Center (Midrash Sefaradi) in Jerusalem.
In 2005, he successfully worked with the U.S. Congress to bring about greater representation for Sephardic victims of the Holocaust (specifically Jews from Arab countries) at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM). In 2003, Mr. Alfassá traveled to Poland representing Sephardic Jews in the United States as part of Judéo-Espagnol A Auschwitz, a successful multi-national campaign that sought recognition for Sephardic Holocaust victims that perished at Auschwitz.
Mr. Alfassá’s articles and papers on Jewish history and politics have appeared in numerous media outlets; his books include Ethnic Sephardic Jews in the Medical Literature; Reference Guide to the Nazis and Arabs During the Holocaust; A Window Into Old Jerusalem; History, Politics & Loss; The Palm Tree of Deborah and The Sephardic Anousim. Mr. Alfassá’s family is from the Ottoman island of Rhodes and Ottoman Edirne, Turkey. He has lived in New York, Florida, California, Colorado and Jerusalem.

Where I live in Summit County, Colorado, the illegals have bankrupted all of our social services (they reproduce like cockroaches, and we pay for their babies) and schools, which are forced to have numerous “English as A Second Language” courses.
Those dollars take away money that should be spent teaching American kids. Test scores here are in the crapper, and it’s because of illegal criminal aliens.

PHOENIX, July 25 (Reuters) – Nicaraguan mother Lorena Aguilar hawks a television set and a few clothes on the baking sidewalk outside her west Phoenix apartment block.
A few paces up the street, her undocumented Mexican neighbor Wendi Villasenor touts a kitchen table, some chairs and a few dishes as her family scrambles to get out of Arizona ahead of a looming crackdown on illegal immigrants.
“Everyone is selling up the little they have and leaving,” said Villasenor, 31, who is headed for Pennsylvania. “We have no alternative. They have us cornered.”
The two women are among scores of illegal immigrant families across Phoenix hauling the contents of their homes into the yard this weekend as they rush to sell up and get out before the state law takes effect on Thursday.
The law, the toughest imposed by any U.S. state to curb illegal immigration, seeks to drive more than 400,000 undocumented day laborers, landscapers, house cleaners, chambermaids and other workers out of Arizona, which borders Mexico.
It makes being an illegal immigrant a state crime and requires state and local police, during lawful contact, to investigate the status of anyone they reasonably suspect of being an illegal immigrant.
The U.S. government estimates 100,000 unauthorized migrants left Arizona after the state passed an employer sanctions law three years ago requiring companies to verify workers’ status using a federal computer system. There are no figures for the number who have left since the new law passed in April.
Some are heading back to Mexico or to neighboring states. Others are staying put and taking their chances.
