The Washington Post notices the blogospheres role in the anti Mosque controversy and Charles Johnson gets a brief paragraph mention

by Speranza ( 260 Comments › )
Filed under LGF, Media, Political Correctness at August 19th, 2010 - 1:00 pm

The entire quote from Charles Johnson is at the bottom of this thread in bold, but as  others have pointed out – you can bet he went on one of his increasingly vitriolic rants against Geller and Spencer. Also note how the article is entitled -”anti Muslim conservatives” – originally entitled “In flap over mosque near Ground Zero, conservative writers gaining influence.” That is a straw man argument, the opposition to the Mosque is based on its appropriateness on a site next door to the WTC.

hat tip – Spitfire Murphy aka loppyd and Jihad Watch

by Michelle Boorstein

Long before President Obama waded into the vociferous debate over a mosque near Ground Zero, a group of conservative writers and bloggers critical of Islam had seized on the issue and helped transform it into a national political spectacle.

While some have dismissed them as bigoted attention-seekers, their attacks on the proposed Islamic center in Lower Manhattan have gained currency in recent weeks among some Republican leaders. And their influence appears to be growing.

They are organizing a Sept. 11 rally against the mosque that will feature former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich. They advise the FBI and other government security agencies on the threats posed by Islamic radicalism, headline “tea party” events and attract millions of readers concerned or curious about Islam to Web sites with names such as Jihad Watch, Creeping Sharia and Stop Islamization of America.

“People on the Hill, their staff read these sites, they show their bosses. . . . They push these subjects into the spotlight, often at a time when major media isn’t doing that,” said Cliff May, a columnist and former spokesman for the Republican National Committee who runs a think tank focused on religious extremism and religious freedom.

The most colorful — and perhaps most visible — activist at the moment is Pam Geller, a former New York Observer publisher who has appeared in a bikini and a super-tight Superman costume challenging Islam.

Through her blog, Atlas Shrugs, television interviews and appearances at political rallies, Geller has become one of the chief organizers of opposition to the so-called Ground Zero mosque as well as efforts to build other Muslim prayer centers across the country.

Republican leaders including Sarah Palin, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Gingrich have condemned the $100 million Park 51 Islamic Cultural Center, while Obama and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) have defended it. On Wednesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) added more fuel to the fire by saying she supports an investigation into how opposition to the mosque is being funded.

[...]

Charles Johnson, creator of the national security blog Little Green Footballs, called Spencer and Geller “very influential.” Listening to Gingrich’s comments about Islamic law, he said, “Newt sounded a lot like he got it from Pam Geller.”

The ‘Obama Boom’ lie continues

by Rodan ( 115 Comments › )
Filed under Economy, Financial, Media at August 13th, 2010 - 8:30 am

This is the biggest lie since the “9/11 is an inside job” lie. The Progressive propaganda media keeps claiming we are in an economic boom. They are ignoring data showing the economy is not well. This is done to help Obama and create a perception of good times. The media is acting as cheerleaders of this regime in the tradition of Pravda.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Investors need to follow the immortal words of the 80′s one-hit wonder Frankie Goes to Hollywood: Relax.

Yes, the economic recovery is losing pace. But based on Wednesday’s big sell-off, you would have thought that we were heading for an imminent repeat of a 2008-style crisis.

Consider that one of the bits of news that investors were worried about was the fact that the Fed said Tuesday it was going to be buying more bonds to keep rates low. That shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody following the economy. It’s painfully obvious that growth is slowing. But it’s still growth.

Read the rest: Don’t panic. Growth is still growth

If a Republican was President could you imagine the media saying not to worry about slow growth? They would be screaming about an anemic economy and jobless recovery. Instead they tell people to not panic. When a Republican is President they call it unemployment, and when it’s a Democrat in office they call it Funemployment. This is pure intellectually dishonest on the part of the Left.

Update: The Recovery Summer of the great Obama Boom continues with wages falling!

Real average hourly earnings for all employees fell 0.2 percent from June to July, seasonally adjusted, the
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.  This decrease stems from a 0.2 percent increase in
average hourly earnings combined with a 0.3 percent increase in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban
Consumers (CPI-U).

Plus retail sales remain sluggish and only were up because of auto sales!

WASHINGTON – A busy month for car dealerships lifted retail sales for the first time in three months while more expensive food and gas boosted consumer prices by the most in nearly a year.

Retail sales rose 0.4 percent last month, buoyed by auto and gasoline station purchases. Most retailers reported declines for the month. Excluding autos, sales climbed 0.2 percent, the Commerce Department said Friday.

[...]

Broad declines in retail sales have economists concerned that spending will slow further in the second half of this year. Households are saving more and spending less as they struggle with high unemployment and lackluster job growth.

Economists note that the government revised activity in the previous two months to show slightly smaller decreases. But overall, the declines for most retailers in July suggest the recovery is losing momentum.

“There is only one thing that’s for sure — economic momentum has slowed,” said Jennifer Lee, senior economist for BMO Capital Markets.

The Obama Boom continues to roar, in the minds of the media!

Update II: This is a must read! What is going on in America is a structural change that began in 2000. The Real Estate bubble just masked the rot from within and when it popped, we saw that America is an economic paper tiger.

What made America great was her unsurpassed ability to innovate.  Equally important was also her ability to rapidly adapt to the change that this innovation fostered. For decades the combination has been a self reinforcing growth dynamic with innovation offering a continuously improving standard of living and higher corporate productivity levels, which the US quickly embraced and adapted to.

This in turn financed further innovation. No country in the world could match the American culture that flourished on technology advancements in all areas of human endeavor. However, something serious and major has changed across America.  Daily, more and more are becoming acutely aware of this, but few grasp exactly what it is.  It is called Creative Destruction.

It turns out that what made America great is now killing her!

Our political leaders are presently addressing what they perceive as an intractable cyclical recovery problem when in fact it is a structural problem that is secular in nature. Like generals fighting the last war with outdated perceptions, we face a new and daunting challenge. A challenge that needs to be addressed with the urgency and scope of a Marshall plan that saved Europe from the ravages of a different type of destruction. We need a modern US centric Marshall plan focused on growth, but orders of magnitude larger than the one in the 1940’s. A plan even more brash than Kennedy’s plan in the 60’s to put a man of the moon by the end of the decade. America needs to again think and act boldly. First however, we need to see the enemy. As the great philosopher Pogo said: “I saw the enemy and it was I”.

Read the rest: What made America great is now Killing her!

The fact is the economic crisis has been a decade in making and we need real solutions to this structural problem.

Tiger Woods scrutiny versus Barack Hussein Obama coverup

by 1389AD ( 36 Comments › )
Filed under Barack Obama, Media, Sports at July 30th, 2010 - 4:30 pm

From the 1389 Blog mailbox:

From: Robert Bowen
Date: 7/27/2010, 8:17 PM EDT
Subject: Amazing

I THINK IT IS REMARKABLE THAT WITHIN A WEEK OF TIGER WOODS CRASHING HIS ESCALADE, THE PRESS FOUND EVERY WOMAN WITH WHOM TIGER HAS HAD AN AFFAIR IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, WITH PHOTOS, TEXT MESSAGES, RECORDED PHONE CALLS, ETC. AND, THEY NOT ONLY KNOW THE CAUSE OF THE FAMILY FIGHT, BUT THEY EVEN KNOW IT WAS A WEDGE FROM HIS GOLF BAG THAT HIS WIFE USED TO BREAK OUT THE WINDOWS IN THE ESCALADE. NOT ONLY THAT, THEY KNOW WHICH WEDGE! AND EACH AND EVERY DAY, THEY GIVE AMERICA MORE UPDATES ON HIS SEX-REHAB STAY, HIS WIFE’S PLANS FOR DIVORCE, AND THE DATES AND TOURNAMENTS HE WILL PLAY IN. OBAMA HAS BEEN IN OFFICE FOR OVER A YEAR NOW, AND THIS SAME PRESS: STILL CANNOT FIND ANY OF HIS CHILDHOOD FRIENDS OR NEIGHBORS OR LOCATE ANY OF OBAMA’S COLLEGE PAPERS OR GRADES OR HOW HE PAID FOR A HARVARD EDUCATION OR WHICH COUNTRY ISSUED HIS VISA TO TRAVEL TO PAKISTAN IN THE 1980′S OR BARRY SOETORO OR EVEN MICHELLE OBAMA’S PRINCETON THESIS ON RACISM. THEY JUST CAN’T SEEM TO FIND THEM!!! YET THE PUBLIC STILL TRUSTS THAT SAME PRESS TO GIVE THEM THE WHOLE TRUTH! TRULY REMARKABLE!!!

Despite the use of block caps, this letter makes a valid point. Somehow, I don’t expect the media to come up with any definitive answers. All we ever get is the “same-old same-old” – the media, even the supposedly “conservative” media, slandering everyone who questions Obama’s eligibility for the Presidency as “birthers” or as part of the “lunatic fringe.” Any self-anointed media pundit who denies that this is a legitimate question is complicit in all of the harm that the Obama administration has done thus far and will do in the future.

A significant percentage of the American public continues to doubt the official version of Obama’s origins and his curriculum vitae – too many to write off as crazy. Every time another piece of evidence surfaces that casts doubt on Obama’s official bio, the mainstream media and even the quasi-conservative media downplay the issue, pretend to debunk it without actually debunking it, and ridicule anybody who expects a better answer than that.

Perhaps if Obama were executing the duties of the Presidency in conformance with the US Constitution and US law, and in the interests of America’s citizens and taxpayers, it would be much easier for people to believe that Obama is American-born. Instead, he has been governing like a third-world socialist dictator, like a wannabee Chavez or Mugabe writ large.

From WUWT: Scientific American Commits Suicide

by snork ( 172 Comments › )
Filed under Environmentalism, Media, Science at July 29th, 2010 - 11:30 am

These guys are nuts. Just plain freeking loony tunes nuts. Scientific American, a magazine that once upon a time was respectable, and once upon a time was about science, has turned into a snuff porn rag.

What would the world look like without people?

This is the latest in a series of Saturday GINK videos about population and reproduction (or a lack thereof).

In honor of the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, which we recently profiled, here are two videos showing what would happen if we humans suddenly up and disappeared.

So this is what they jack off to.

I’ve seen the “after humans” stuff on TV, which is mildly entertaining because the focus is on how natural processes would slowly undo human infrastructure. This is different. This is a really, really bad animation showing (!!!) elephants roaming Central Park (because of global warming  ).

So there you have it; SciAm is into human extinction, and they think that elephants will roam Central Park because we’ve been a bad, bad species.

Not to be outdone, National Geographic, another formerly respectable magazine, matches SciAm, and raises them psychedelic:

Can you believe this shit?

Mr. Kurtz, When Did You Stop Beating Your Meat?

by snork ( 103 Comments › )
Filed under Barack Obama, Media, Politics, Progressives at July 26th, 2010 - 7:00 pm

Just when you think the lame excuses can’t get any lamer. An “analysis” of the Journolist scandal by Howard Kurtz at the WaPo. This is what you get when you assign a liberal journalist to investigate the misbehavior of liberal journalists.

But there is no getting around the fact that some of these messages, culled from the members-only discussion group Journolist, are embarrassing. They show liberal commentators appearing to cooperate in an effort to hammer out the shrewdest talking points against the Republicans — including, in one case, a suggestion for accusing random conservatives of being racist.

Ya think? Is this meebee sanitizing what they really said just a wee bit?

Spencer Ackerman of the Washington Independent urged his colleagues to deflect attention from Obama’s relationship with Wright by changing the subject. Pick one of Obama’s conservative critics, Ackerman wrote, “Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists.”

That’s a “suggestion” that maybe they’re “cooperating”. As an aside, non-progressives have been noticing for years that the race card is used freely (should I say “liberally”?) and arbitrarily, but have only suspected disingenuously. This should remove any doubt about the latter: they know damn good and well that it’s a lie; for them it’s a pure cynical ploy.

Here’s a quick summary of some of the things the Jounolist kids said:

But back to Kurtz. His whitewash continues for paragraphs, and ends with this howler:

None of this quite adds up to a Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy, and there is no reason to believe that some conservative commentators don’t have similar discussions. But there is no escaping the fact that some of the list’s liberal literati come off sounding like cagey political operatives.

There’s no reason to believe that Klingons aren’t going to attack in five minutes, either. So Mr, Kurtz, do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Ok then, let me proceed with the questioning: Mr. Kurtz, when did you stop beating your meat?

Is this really their best and brightest? The mediocrity is astonishing.

How the liberal media shaped the 2008 election

by Speranza ( 162 Comments › )
Filed under Election 2008, Media, Progressives at July 26th, 2010 - 11:30 am

I have been finding this whole JournoList saga to be a fascinating insight into the progressive media’s mindset. The wolf pack mentality, the smelling of blood, the rapacious desire not not only defeat their opponents by any means necesary but to destroy them followed by whingeing proclamations that everything was taken out of context and their solemn protestations of  ”professionalism”. What is funny though is that the lefties of JOurnoList had such a low opinion of Keith Olbermann. Too bad our candidate decided to be a “nice guy” and forbid all comments on the Rev. Wright as he would have forced the media to recognize the Wright issue.

by Jonathan Strong

In 2007, when Washington Post blogger Ezra Klein founded JournoList, an online gathering place for several hundred liberal journalists, academics and political activists, he imagined a discussion group that would connect young writers to top sources.

But in the heat of a bitter presidential campaign in 2008, the list’s discussions veered into collusion and coordination at key political moments, documents revealed this week by The Daily Caller show.

In a key episode, JournoList members openly plotted to bury attention on then-candidate Barack Obama’s controversial pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. The Washington Independent’s Spencer Ackerman, for instance, suggested an effective tactic to distract from the issue would be to pick one of Obama’s critics, “Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists.”

Conservative critics of Washington’s journalistic establishment have long charged the media with a striking liberal bias. But those critics have also said the problem was mostly unintentional, the result of a press corps made up mostly of Democratic-leaning scribes.

Yet JournoList’s discussions show an influential left-wing faction of the media participating in a far more intentional sort of liberal bias.

JournoList’s members included dozens of straight-news reporters from major news organizations, including Time, Newsweek, The Associated Press, Reuters, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Politico, Bloomberg, Huffington Post, PBS and a large NPR affiliate in California.

Also included were numerous A-list columnists and top editors. Beyond the higher-ranking members were hundreds of lesser figures, many from Washington’s liberal magazines that have long served as a stable of talent from which mainstream media organizations grab talented young writers.

In the case of the Rev. Wright story, Obama was then being hurt politically for his decades-long association with the toxic pastor, who infamously called the Sept. 11 attacks America’s “chickens coming home to roost” and urged God to “damn” America rather than bless her.

Chris Hayes, a top editor for the liberal magazine The Nation, urged his colleagues in April 2008 to avoid the subject of Wright because talking about it at all would hurt Obama. Hayes directed his message specifically to the straight-news reporters reading his post, saying: “Our country disappears people. It tortures people. It has the blood of as many as one million Iraqi civilians — men, women, children, the infirmed — on its hands. You’ll forgive me if I just can’t quite dredge up the requisite amount of outrage over Barack Obama’s pastor.”

[....]

Excerpts from JournoList;

ON OBAMA

When Obama won, reporter Alyssa Rosenberg of Government Executive magazine ditched her neutrality. “A lot of horribly ugly stuff got repudiated tonight. But it doesn’t end here. We need to keep making the case to the folks who disagreed with us.”

ON RUSH LIMBAUGH

Asked how she would react if Rush Limbaugh were having a heart attack right in front of her, Sarah Spitz, a producer for Southern California NPR affiliate KCRW, said she would “laugh loudly like a maniac and watch his eyes bug out.”

ON SARAH PALIN

“Okay, let’s get deadly serious, folks,” Ed Kilgore, managing editor of the Democratic Strategist, wrote. “Sarah Palin’s just been introduced to the country as a brave, above-party, oil-company-bashing, pork-hating maverick ‘outsider.’ What we can do is to expose her ideology.”

ON THE REV. JEREMIAH WRIGHT

“Whether we are defending Wright or repudiating him, we are talking about what liberalism’s enemies want us to be talking about,” David Roberts of Grist magazine said. “The problem is that none of us are thinking about how to take control of the discussion.”

Mmm Mmm Mmm, look at All Them Crackers

by snork ( 115 Comments › )
Filed under Media, Racism at July 25th, 2010 - 12:30 pm

You want to see a bunch of angry white (mostly) men? Look at some of the mugs of Journolist. There’s one guy in there with a suntan, and a token Asian, and lotsa lotsa white males, and most of the rest white females.

Somebody explain to me why they’re so angry at Rush Limbaugh and Karl Rove, and of all people Fred Barnes? What do they have to be so angry about that they have violent fantasies? And are these violent fantasies some sort of unresolved sexual issues?

And are they ever going to invite any colored folk into their white nerd club? They got enough crackers there to make 50 gallons of clam chowder.

Angry crackers of the MSM. Could be a band.

Celebrate diversity like all these crackers here:
