How to Make Friends After Moving to a New City
October 18, 2017
Moving to a new city can be frightening, especially if you have no friends. Your situation may be one where you had to sever your ties with close friends because of the distance. The following are some tips for meeting people when you move to a new city:
Go to Sports Games
If you are a parent, and your child is involved in sports, then going to sports games to meet friends will be an ideal venture for you. You can just start going to the games. The rest of the parents will probably initiate conversations with you when they see that your child is on the team. That’s a great way for you to meet people you can talk to. You may end up making friends that will be there for you for a lifetime.
Another idea that you can use is a trip to the grocery store. You are bound to run into some interesting single people at the grocery store. All you need to do is smile or politely ask someone a question about some groceries, and you automatically get to strike up a conversation.
Sign Up Online for Friends
Another way you can make friends in your new town is by signing up for online services that help you. A myriad of online connection sites is available. You’re likely to find some friends if you search by your interests and hobbies.
Go to the Local Church
The local church is another place that you can find someone who shares common interests with you if you are a woman or man of faith, and you want your primary friend list to consist of others who are of the same type. All you have to do is go to the church or synagogue when they have regular services, and you should be fine. Someone will welcome you to the establishment, and then you can tell that person that you are new to the area and would love to befriend some new people.
Initiate Contact With Your Neighbors
Finally, you don’t have to go to church or the grocery store or the football game to find potential friends. You could actually just knock on your neighbor’s door and just introduce yourself. You may want to bring a freshly baked pie or some brownies like people used to do back in the day. If you have friendly neighbors, they will love you for those brownies.
Those are just a few ideas that you can use if you truly want to meet some new friends. The key to success is to not to be shy and to take a chance anytime you feel that you have an opportunity. You may end up with a wonderful team of newly found friends who will be there for you forever.
