Raaaaacism?

Yesterday, hackers changed the message on one of the ubiquitous portable illuminated traffic signs in Florida. From NBC Miami, we get this report:

A highway sign flashing “NO LATINOS NO TACOS” greeted drivers on the Palmetto Expressway in Northwest Miami-Dade, after hackers managed to alter it early Tuesday morning.

The sign was in the northbound side of the 826, right near the Northwest 25th street exit.

It’s unknown how long the sign had been flashing the message, but by 6 a.m., members of the Florida Highway Patrol and a road crew had turned the sign away from the highway and were working to erase the message.

Almost immediately the MSM and left-wing blogs (like this one) tagged the prank as right-wing racism. Seems that everyone has forgotten about this unadulterated image:

According to the race-baiters, illegal immigrants and legal hispanics are way too stooopid to figure out the complexity of a programmable road sign, so it’s gotta be the evil Mr. Whitey McConservative. Good thing that the lovely and gracious Missus X is a Latina, because I’d never be able figure out how to make tacos or burritos on my own.

Meanwhile, this was spotted near Copperhill, Tennessee:

Much of today’s racism is promoted by the left, just like it always has been. And because of it, we have another post for an Overnight Open Thread.

The MSM Ignores Tea Party Diversity

Not all Tea Party protesters are angry old white men. There are angry old white women, too. And not all the angry old women are white:

Photos above were snapped as a CNN camera van drove by.  Why do they continue to squelch the truth?  In  response to the Tea Party protests, and all criticism of his Messiahness in general, President Obama offered his take:

We get it, the Bird is the Word. Speaking of the truth, this is an Overnight Open Thread.

The NYT — defending murderous dictators since Walter Duranty

by Speranza ( 195 Comments › )
Filed under Cuba, Media at March 3rd, 2010 - 8:30 am

Walter Duranty – the man who denied that there was a famine in the Ukraine  (1932 -33) – Stalin’s favorite Western journalist, was one of the worst reporters ever. Unfortunately he was not alone,  others such as Castro’s de facto public relations man Herbert Matthews were just as bad. To this day the New York Times instead of trying to get at a story puts its ideological objectives first. Let us also not forget the disgraceful non coverage of the Holocaust as it was unfolding because W.A.S.H. (White Anglo Saxon Hebrew) publisher Arthur Hays Sulzberger was afraid that the Times would be referred to as a “Jewish” newspaper. The Times Middle East correspondents are (with some exceptions) particularly bad as well.

by Humberto Fontava

“A foreign reporter — preferably American — was much more valuable to us at that time (1957) than any military victory,” wrote Ernesto “Che” Guevara in his diaries. “Much more valuable than rural recruits for our guerrilla force, were American media recruits to export our propaganda.”

“We cannot for a second abandon propaganda. Propaganda is vital — propaganda is the heart of all struggles,” said Fidel Castro in a letter to a revolutionary colleague in 1954.

“In all essentials Castro’s battle for Cuba was a public relations campaign fought in New York and Washington.” — British historian Hugh Thomas

Fidel Castro has strong ideas of liberty, democracy, social justice, the need to restore Cuba’s Constitution…this amounts to a new deal for Cuba, radical, democratic and therefore anti-Communist. (Herbert Matthews, New York Times Feb. 1957.)

[...]

One Thousand Killed in 5 days of Fierce Street Fighting,” blared a New York Times headline on Jan 4, 1959 about the “battle” of Santa Clara in central Cuba where Ernesto “Che” Guevara earned much of his enduring martial mystique. “Commander Che Guevara appealed to Batista troops for a truce to clear the streets of casualties,” continues the Times article. “Guevara turned the tide in this bloody battle and whipped a Batista force of 3,000 men.”

A year later, Che’s own diaries revealed that his forces suffered exactly one casualty during this Caribbean Stalingrad, as depicted by the Times.  British historian Sir Hugh Thomas, author of a 1700 page Cuban history and who initially vied with Herbert Matthews as a Castro sycophant, claims a grand total of six casualties for this Caribbean Verdun. Your humble servant here interviewed several eye-witnesses (on both sides) to this “battle” and their consensus came to about five casualties total for this Caribbean Iwo Jima.

True to New York Times- form, during this “battle,” they didn’t have a reporter within 300 miles of Santa Clara.  Instead they relied on their trusty Cuban Castroite “correspondents.”

The Fat Lady Sings for Keith Olbermann

by Speranza ( 142 Comments › )
Filed under Media at February 2nd, 2010 - 7:30 am

I predict that one day Olbermann will have such a melt down on his show “Countdown to No Ratings” where he curses, spits, tears at his hair – that even MSNBC will have to pull the plug on him and call for medics to take him over to a mental institution for observation. He is a perfect example of the Peter Principle at work – he rose to his true level of mediocrity. He was a forgettable sportscaster and then got promoted to spew Leftist pap at MSNBC. He never, ever has an opposing viewpoint on his show because like a certain husky, pony-tailed blogger – he cannot debate.  (By the way last night on O’Reilly – a man I find insufferable most of the time – he had on as guests the leftist mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsome, and the angry leftist columnist from Time Magazine, Joe Klein. At least there is balance on Fox.)

by Stuart Schwartz

It ain’t over until the fat lady sings.”

The fat lady is doing more than singing for Keith Olbermann. And, like most of the other women in the life of MS-NBC’s premiere leftist sexist, she’s not interested in dating him. Rather, she merely wishes to see his well-padded bottom fade into the distance.

————————————–

By the end of 2009, media observers were noting the “abysmal” state of Olbermann’s ratings. And now the thirty-day moving average of ratings shows him steadily sinking as Bill O’Reilly leads the charge of FOX News to the top. The FOX blowout of Keith and friends during the State of the Union this past week prompted National Review to ask, “[A]t what point does MSDNC pull the plug on its all-Left format?”

And so the fat lady is not just singing for Olbermann and MS-NBC: Rather, she is belting out an aria that rushes Katrina-like past the designer finery of Old Media grandees in the audience of Manhattan’s Metropolitan Opera, rattles the Swarovski crystal chandeliers above their heads, hurtles across Central Park, and pierces the floor-to-ceiling windows of Olbermann’s  $4.2-million 40th-floor Trump Palace roost.

It is from here that Olbermann leads the progressive media battle on behalf of America’s downtrodden, joined by neighboring New York Times staffers and mainstream media executives, fighting their self-described war on privilege from foxholes developed by Donald Trump. The various Trump Towers dotting upper Manhattan are, collectively, a progressive Pentagon, headquarters for the media war on Middle America…with Olbermann among the most polished of its brass.

…That is, until America began paying attention. The result: The audience of Countdown has sunk to roughly 20% of FOX News-viewers led by Bill O’Reilly. And now the fat lady is howling her delight as she joins a decades-long string of females in Keith’s life — beginning with his mother, who thought her son needed psychological help — whose fist-bumps will come when he has exited their lives.

Olbermann does not like women, especially attractive and/or accomplished women. Nor is he particularly fond of men. He is forever the awkward, angry teenager of his high school days who mystified psychologists, the überdork whose cruel taunts of the athletes he covered as a sports broadcaster were legendary, even as he yearned to be thought of as the stud that covers studs. Give it up, a Philadelphia Inquirer sports columnist suggested after watching Olbermann ridicule the appearance of an overweight athlete. He noted that the hefty lefty is “so bloated he looks as if he swallowed Dan Patrick [his ESPN co-anchor] back in 1997.”

————————————–

Women are anathema to Olbermann. He delights in demeaning them, and the more attractive or accomplished they are, the more malicious he gets. Conservative Congresswoman Michelle Bachman, who relishes her role as policymaker and  mother, is a frequent object of his anger; columnist Michelle Malkin is a “big mashed up bag of meat with lipstick” because of her intelligence and traditional values; Sarah Palin is a moronic “Bush in a skirt”; and there’s nothing wrong with Hillary Clinton — who had the nerve to oppose Barack Obama in the Democrat primaries — that a good beating won’t cure.

GOP Senator Rips Into MSNBC Host For ‘Absurd,’ ‘Dishonest,’ Statements

by Speranza ( 94 Comments › )
Filed under Media, Progressives at January 29th, 2010 - 5:00 am

As you all know, MSNBC is essentially Obama Campaign Headquarters. There is not a single unbiased MSNBC reporter there and even token conservative Joe Scarborough is not immune to Republican bashing. Contessa Brewer is particularly partisan in her interviews of the occasional conservative that MSNBC allows on the air. Here Senator Judd Gregg of New Hampshire fights back. Please note that liberals always like to frame questions to Republicans in the “When did you stop beating your wife”  tone.  Good for you Senator Gregg in calling her out on her absurdity.

by Kyle Drennen

On the soon-to-be canceled ‘It’s the Economy’ program on MSNBC on Thursday, co-host Contessa Brewer grilled Republican New Hampshire Senator Judd Gregg on his calls to reduce out-of-control government spending: “Which programs are you willing to cut? Are you willing to tell schools, no money for you?” Gregg shot back: “What an absurd statement to make. And what a dishonest statement to make.”

Gregg called out Brewer for her unfair framing of the issue: “…nobody’s saying no money for schools….On it’s face you’re being fundamentally dishonest when you make that type of statement.” He went to explain the kinds of budget cuts he would make: “I would freeze discretionary spending, a real freeze, not a – not a freeze plus inflation. I would eliminate the T.A.R.P. money….I would end the stimulus spending effective in June of this year, if not sooner….reform our entitlement programs….I’ve made very specific proposals and I’m willing to stand by them.”

Gregg was far from finished, he described the big government mentality shared by the Obama administration and the liberal media: “The problem is that this administration’s view of governance is that economic prosperity is created by growing the government dramatically. And then it gets misrepresented by people like yourself who say they’re going to – that if you do any of this stuff you’re going to end up not funding education.”

Brewer attempted to deny suggesting that Gregg wanted to cut funding for schools: “That’s not what I said.” Gregg continued undeterred: “I mean that statement alone is the most irresponsible statement I’ve heard from a reporter, probably in a month….And there are a lot of irresponsible statements made by reporters and that was the most irresponsible I’ve heard.”

The 8th Annual “20 Most Annoying Liberals of 2009″

by Speranza ( 161 Comments › )
Filed under Media at January 11th, 2010 - 10:00 pm

The award speaks for itself and I am certain we can all add our own nominees to the list (check out who is #12 our  pony tail  man himself!) . Have fun – as for my own (dis)honorary nominees I would add Fareed Zakaria,  Joe Klein, Ed Schultz, Alan Colmes, Bob Beckel, David Brooks, Kathleen Parker.

hat tip Right Wing News

Honorable Mentions: Joy Behar, Barbara Boxer, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Anderson Cooper, Chris Dodd, Maureen Dowd, Dick Durbin, Thomas Friedman, Glenn Greenwald, Maurice Hinchey, Arianna Huffington, Jesse Jackson, Hank Johnson, John Kerry, Ezra Klein, Paul Krugman, Pat Leahy, Rachel Maddow, Bill Maher, Michael Moore, MoveOn, Lawrence O’Donnell, Markos Moulitas, Clarence Page, The New York Times, Ted Rall, Charlie Rangel, Rick Sanchez, Shepard Smith, Pete Stark, John Stewart

20) Roseanne Barr: In a way, it’s unfair to put someone as nutty as Roseanne on the list. In all seriousness, she probably needs to be doing 4 day a week sessions with a psychiatrist and ingesting a cocktail of drugs so potent it would turn Charlie Manson into a boy scout. With that in mind, had Barr just stuck to her fruitbat eating a pile of crazy blog rants, I’d have left her off the list. However, anyone, particularly a Jew, who can dress up as Hitler and bake “Jew cookies” for a magazine pic needs to be singled out as an example of how mentally sick human beings can become:

19) Joe Biden: You remember our Vice-President, don’t you? Nobody could blame you if you forgot about Joe, since they try to keep him hidden away from open microphones as much as possible, but imagine the lovable, hapless, gaffe-prone goofball who exists to provide comic relief during your favorite sitcom and you have our VP down to a tee.

12) Charles Johnson: One of the most repeated lines around the right side of the blogosphere this year has been, “What happened to Charles Johnson?” How did a center-left blogger who ran the web’s premier anti-radical Islam website turn into a nasty tempered, raving paranoid who despises and fears all things Christian and conservative? Who knows? But his bizarre purges from his website of anyone who disagrees with him and his seven degrees of Kevin Bacon style denunciations of his enemies “You once said something nice about this guy, who knows this guy, who is friends with a fascist, therefore you are a fascist” read like they were penned by someone on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

After Obama’s Meeting With Netanyahu, MSM Works Overtime To Manufacture Anti-Israel Sentiment

by WrathofG-d ( 13 Comments › )
Filed under Gaza, Hamas, IDF, Iran, Israel, Jihad, Media, Middle East, Palestinians, Terrorism, World at May 20th, 2009 - 2:14 pm

The international mainstream media has been working overtime to shift the narrative regarding the Arab-Israel conflict, and place all blame on Israel’s shoulders – despite the reality being the complete opposite.  Although many of us have come to accept this from the press, a sharp left turn against Israel has become more apparent, and they are using all the weapons of propaganda in their arsenal.

________________________________________________

Fauxtography

What better place to start than with with Fautography from the AP in Bilin?  The Associated Press would have you believe that this man holding a key aloft in one hand, and raising the other in a defiant fist, directly in front of a photographer Bernat Armangue simply “passed out” from tear gas at a Nakba demonstration this week.

For those who do not know, Bilin is home of the West Bank’s longest continuous run of manufactured dissent and grandstanding for the cameras.  It is “ground zero” for the ISM, and their ilk to Paliwood riots, and “IDF abuses”.

_______________________________________________

Inverting The Facts / Shaping The Discussion

The AP however, didn’t stop there.  Much of their, and other’s, media coverage of Netanyahu’s meeting with Obama this week tended to concentrate on Netanyahu’s refusal to formally endorse the creation of a Palestinian state dispite the fact that this is a misnomer regarding his position.  In fact, while with President Obama,  Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke eagerly about renewing negotiations and expressed support for Palestinian autonomy.  Despite this, the media’s coverage implied that his position presented an obstacle to peace.

While the media outlets focused on the negative with Netanyahu, the real obstacle to peace – Hamas – continued to be treated completely differently.  In an Associated Press article published the day after the meeting, the A.P. provided a platform for Hamas leaders to propagandize to the West and falsely express “moderate” positions, such as a quote from Hamas lawmaker Yehiye Moussa saying, the group is “not demanding to destroy Israel.”

This is despite the fact that, as writer Karen Laub point out, that Hamas is not about to change its ideology – which explicitly precludes any recognition of Israel.  Insofar that it is the historically stated position of Hamas that it is their ultimate goal to destroy Israel, an honest reporter would have to conclude that nothing has changed with Hamas.  However, Karen Laub streteches reality to note that Hamas has begun “raising the possibility they would someday accept a Palestinian state alongside Israel.”

So while Netanyahu’s call for Palestinian autonomy is treated as insufficient and anti-peace, Hamas’s rhetorical, though not ideological or practical, shift from total rejectionism is presented as a cause for hope.

Blaming The Victim; Ignoring The Huge Kiffiyah Wearing Elephant

Last, but definatly not least, in this hall of shame is England’s “The Independent” which stands out from the crowd with a glaring omission.

In an article by Donald Macintyre, “Israel goes cold on plan for regional peace deal,” a list of “obstacles to peace” includes issues such as settlements, Palestinian infighting, Iran, Syria and Israel’s own apparent reluctance to publicly endorse a Palestinian state.

Putting aside the relative importance or otherwise of issues such as settlements being primary stumbling blocks, Macintyre conveniently forgets a very real and potentially the greatest obstacle to peace – Palestinian terror and violence.

How can Macintyre omit the thousands of missiles fired from Gaza at Sderot and surrounding Israeli communities for several years (and before the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip)? Indeed, only the day before Macintyre’s piece was published, Sderot endured a Qassam rocket attack on a courtyard adjacent to two private homes. One resident was wounded while several others were treated for shock.

And how can Macintyre forget the brutal campaign of suicide attacks against Israeli buses, cafes and other civilian targets that has claimed the lives of over 1000 Israelis and wounded thousands more since the year 2000? While major attacks have declined recently thanks to Israeli counter measures such as the Security Fence, the incentive for terrorist groups to carry out similar acts of violence has not.

We could also add to the list other potential obstacles to peace, for example, Palestinian intractability on issues such as the right of return, incitement in Palestinian media and the education system that has poisoned Palestinian minds, and the increasing role of Islamic extremism represented by Hamas.

The way that the Pro-Arab propagandists, useful-idiots, and Terror sympathisersr associate home building, with murder is truly disgusting.

______________________________________________

DONT JUST SIT THERE….DO SOMETHING!

Please write to The Independent – letters@independent.co.uk – to remind them that there are many potential obstacles to peace and that some of these that the paper has omitted, are the responsibility of the Palestinian side to overcome.

You can also contact The Associated Press – to remind them of their duty to provide unbiased, truthful reporting on such an important issue.

Um…About Those “Loyal” Israeli-Arabs

Again, the Israeli-Arabs go out of their way to show a world with its eyes closed where their loyalties are.  When an Israeli points this out however, they are labeled by the World as “racist”, “ultra-nationalist”, “right-wing”, or worse.   The following two articles regard Israeli-Arab Members of the Israeli Knesset.  They were democratically elected, and hold one of the highest offices in the State.  Accordingly, they experience the full rights, opportunities, and benefits of Israel.  However, despite all of this freedom, equality, and privilege in Israel they are still loyal “palestinians” and a traitorous 5th column to Israel.

Israeli-Arab Member of Knesset Ahmed Tibi

MK Ahmed Tibi[ed- Israeli-Arab] MK Ahmed Tibi spoke to Palestinian Authority media on Wednesday from the Arab League Summit in Doha, Qatar.  Tibi told the PA papers that Israel’s new government poses a threat to Arabs inside and outside the state.

“The new Netanyahu extremist government does not represent a threat to the Palestinians living in Israel only [ed-Notice how this Israeli-Arab MK herself referrers to the Arab-Israelis], but a threat to all Arabs who must understand and study more and more Israeli plots,” Tibi told the Bethlehem-based Ma’an News.

In interviews with other Arab media outlets, Tibi referred to the Palestinian Liberation Organization as “the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.”

PA media expressed satisfaction with Qatar’s decision to invite Tibi to the conference.  Tibi’s presence at the gathering guaranteed “the representation of Palestinians in Israel at the diplomatic level,” according to Ma’an.

Tibi attended the conference last year as well, as an official representative of “Palestine.”

Israeli-Arab Member of Knesset Hanin Zoabi

MK Hanin ZoabiMK Hanin Zoabi (Balad) broke new ground in anti-Israeli rhetoric by a Knesset Member Tuesday when she told a reporter that she welcomes the development of nuclear weapons by Iran.

In an interview with Samuel Sokol for the Philadelphia Bulletin, the newly sworn-in Knesset Member said she preferred Iran over the more moderate Arab states: “The policy of Iran is more useful to the Palestinian issue and more standing against occupation than a lot of the Arab countries. This is our interest.  If anyone is supporting me – so I will not mind this influence, even I would ask for this influence [sic],” she explained

When the reporter asked her if she is not afraid that an Iranian attack would put her at risk as well, she said: “I’m not afraid from the nuclear Iranians.  I‘m more afraid from the Israeli nuclear [sic].”

Asked if she thought Israel might use its reported nuclear weapons, she answered in the affirmative.  “I am afraid from real risk rather than from potential risk,” she added.  “The Iranian is still in a potential.  But the real risk is the Israeli army.  I need a power which can make counter [sic] to the Israeli power. It is not supporting me, the fact that Israel will be the only state with a nuclear weapon. It’s more supporting me to have [a] counterpower to Israel [sic].”

These are only a few of the most recent examples of the true Israeli-Arab hatred, and disloyalty to Israel and something to remember the next time you hear someone slandering Israel, or anyone for daring to point it out publicly, or suggesting that the Israeli-Arabs are a threat to Israel.

UPDATE 4/1/2009 – 1:02:13 p.m.

As was expected, (and pointed out above, before reading of his installment) Avigdore Lieberman was installed as Israel’s new Foreign Minister “today” (taking over for Tzipi Livni), and the press is already gunning for him and calling him names. They however will not be outdone in their name calling by the Israeli-Arab MKs themselves, or their brothers-in-arms the Phakestinians.  The partial, Pro-Phakestinian and exceptionally biased Mainstream Media, getting their cues from Hamas, and the P.L.O., has a grudge against Lieberman….and they are not going to be quiet about it.  (the buzzwords are “racist”, or “ultra-nationalist”)

Yasser Abed Rabbo, a top aide to Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas and his unofficial spokesman, said that no one could force the Palestinians to sit around the negotiating table with “a racist like Lieberman.”

Hadash MK Afo Agbaria called on the international community to impose a diplomatic embargo on Israel following Lieberman’s comments. [ed- that is an Israeli-Arab politician calling for a diplomatic embargo against his own country]

“It isn’t surprising that such fiery declarations come from the mouth of the racist foreign minister just one day after the government’s establishment,” added Agbaria.

_________________________________________

Racist? Hardly!  But don’t take my word on it, click the link above (or below) and hear Lieberman in his own words.  Do they seem “racist” to you?

Regarding Israel’s difficult diplomatic standing in the world today, Lieberman noted that this came at a time when Israel was willing to make more concessions than ever before.

In relation to public opinion, he asked, “When was Israel most at its most popular in the world? After the Six Day War, not after Oslo A, B, C and D.”

Lieberman added that in order to be respected in the world, you have to respect yourself.

_________________________________________

From CBS NEWS – Lieberman’s speech:

“Whoever thinks that concessions … will achieve something is wrong. He will bring pressures and more wars,” Lieberman said. “What we have to explain to the world is that the list of priorities must change.”

CBS’s name-calling:

Israel’s new hard-line foreign minister delivered a scathing critique of Mideast peace efforts Wednesday, rejecting the past year of U.S.-led negotiations and telling a room crowded with cringing diplomats that concessions to the Palestinians only invite war.

The appointment of Lieberman, head of the ultranationalist Yisrael Beitenu, has raised international concerns because of his hard-line positions on peace and an election campaign that was widely seen as racist.

_________________________________________

You can expect this misplaced mistreatment of Lieberman, and Bibi’s Government the entire time they are in office.  The media, etc., will label anything that doesn’t help their goal of destroying Israel as “racist”, “ultra-nationalist,” etc.  It has nothing to do with facts, and everything to do with agenda.

The above is a cartoon by Pat Oliphant that is currently running in some of America’s most popular newspapers.  The cartoon portrays a headless, jack-booted figure marching in a goose step with a sword in one hand and pushing a Star of David on a wheel with the other.  The Jewish Star has fangs and is chasing after a woman carrying a child, labeled “Gaza.”

Pat Oliphant’s use of the Star of David in combination with Nazi-like imagery is hideously anti-Semitic. It falsely employs Nazi imagery to portray Israel as a jack-booted, goose-stepping headless apparition, and goes beyond-the-pale of “dissent” and regular ‘criticism”

Welcome to the United States 2009!  You aren’t reading about these widespread and mainstream anti-Semitic incidents in a history book regarding Germany…this is your world, and it is taking place now!  I wouldn’t be shocked if we soon hear of “Palestine”-American Solidarity rallies that fill Madison Square Garden! One would expect this type of disgraceful cartoon from an insignificant Neo-Nazi publication, or something similar, but in today’s America it is run widely in the New York Times and The Washington Post, among others.

Israeli war against Hamas scars Gaza’s children

JEBALIYA, Gaza Strip – Surrounded by mountains of rubble that were once their homes, two dozen children sat on a rainbow-colored blanket and drew with crayons.
(snip..)
Psychologists say Israel’s three-week offensive inflicted more severe trauma than previous conflicts in Gaza because civilians in the crowded sliver of territory had no safe place to run. A wartime study among hundreds of Gaza children showed a rise in nightmares, bedwetting and other signs of trauma, said psychologist Fadel Abu Hein.
(snip..)
Counselors and aid workers fear that Gaza’s children, who make up 56 percent of the 1.4 million people here, will grow up hating Israel and become easier prey for extremists.
By KARIN LAUB, Associated Press Writer

This is nothing but apologist for terrorist propaganda.

The Israeli “war” was only in response to daily Hamas rocket attacks directed against only non-combatant Israeli children.

Israeli children and the effect daily terrorist rocket attacks have on them is not of any concern for the world at large, only the children of terrorists are worthy of mass media concern, what a sick group of amoral reporters we have in this openly anti-Semitic world.

If this reporter was truly concerned or even slightly cared about the children of Gaza they would speak out against the Islamic terrorists and force them to stop attacking Israel, then the children of Gaza could live with Hamas and Islam being their only fears.

Politico: Yes, We’re Biased. So What?

by Rodan ( 14 Comments › )
Filed under John McCain, Politics at October 28th, 2008 - 12:24 pm

Politico reporters Jim VandeHei and John F. Harris examine the claim that the media are overwhelmingly biased against the McCain campaign, conclude that it’s true, and then sum up their response in two words: “So what?”

Why McCain is getting hosed in the press.

OK, let’s just get this over with: Yes, in the closing weeks of this election, John McCain and Sarah Palin are getting hosed in the press, and at Politico.

And, yes, based on a combined 35 years in the news business we’d take an educated guess — nothing so scientific as a Pew study — that Obama will win the votes of probably 80 percent or more of journalists covering the 2008 election. Most political journalists we know are centrists — instinctually skeptical of ideological zealotry — but with at least a mild liberal tilt to their thinking, particularly on social issues.

So what?

You see, political journalists are a special breed of human being.

Responsible editors would be foolish not to ask themselves the bias question, especially in the closing days of an election.

But, having asked it, our sincere answer is that of the factors driving coverage of this election — and making it less enjoyable for McCain to read his daily clip file than for Obama — ideological favoritism ranks virtually nil.

The main reason is that for most journalists, professional obligations trump personal preferences. Most political reporters (investigative journalists tend to have a different psychological makeup) are temperamentally inclined to see multiple sides of a story, and being detached from their own opinions comes relatively easy.

So there you have it. Stop complaining about bias, and accept the opinions of your betters, America.

Gawker.com, the ethics-devoid pseudo-blog that published Sarah Palin’s private email, is now hawking another creepy little invasion of privacy: Sarah Palin’s High-School Grades?

But this is what happens when you race to the bottom and sneer at ethical behavior along the way; you get taken in by obvious fakes: Nutroots use my SAT scoresheet to forge ‘Palin Grades’.

Idiots.

Ifill Didn’t Tell Debate Commission About Book, But It Doesn’t Matter

d Morrissey is continuing to follow the outrageous story of Gwen Ifill, the insanely biased debate moderator: Ifill: I never told the Commission about the book.

But at this point, it simply doesn’t matter how much evidence of bias you can dig up, because John McCain said he was sure Ifill would be fair and objective. He signed off on her, when he could have objected. This battle is over.

The Reverend Wright Issue

At the Wall Street Journal, Laura Meckler writes that the McCain campaign is getting ready to open a can of Reverend Jeremiah Wright: ‘Attack by Association’ Viewed as Fair Game by McCain Camp.

Don’t be shocked if you see the McCain campaign pull the controversial Rev. Jeremiah Wright out of mothballs in new attacks against one-time parishioner, Barack Obama.

McCain advisers say that they see “attack by association” as fair game now, arguing that Obama’s campaign has been using that technique to go after McCain. In particular, the Obama campaign has hammered McCain on the stump and in TV ads on the number of one-time lobbyists working for his campaign. (The McCain campaign is also angry about a Spanish-language TV ad that ties McCain to Rush Limbaugh on immigration, without ever saying that McCain took on Limbaugh and others to fight for comprehensive immigration reform.)

“They played it one way, we played it another way,” said one of McCain’s top advisers, Mark Salter. “Now we’re both going to play it the same way.”

If you’re not a fan of Obama, you’re probably thinking, “It’s about time.” It doesn’t take Nostradamus to predict that Obama’s fans will shriek, “Guilt by association!” and claim that Obama’s relationship with Wright was nothing special.

But they’re going to have to explain this speech by Obama from June 5, 2007 at Hampton University, lavishing praise on Rev. Wright in a way that makes it very clear that Obama was a close personal friend.

This close friend of Barack Obama also joined Louis Farrakhan on a trip to Libya and met with Muammar Gaddafi in 1984, right around the time Obama would have first met Rev. Wright. Has anyone ever asked Obama for his opinion about that trip?
